:p well don't need a guide if you're smart about how to spend your time.
In all seriousness I was pretty happy that they loosened the time constraints for Persona 5. P4G/P4 are suuuuuper strict for doing first run max playthroughs.
I went in back then expecting to at least not complete 2 storylines.

Weird to see people feel that way. I don't think I've had a moment where I stopped and thought "Well that just doesn't sound right." I don't really get it lol.

I've had that "wait, that's not right" response exactly once in 25+ hours of Persona 5, and it was one of the lines that's in the OP of that localization thread. Most other bits of oddness are character things or just getting into the quirkiness of how people actually talk, which is rarely actually grammatically correct.

Which isn't to say there aren't a couple other minor translation errors or inconsistencies (and this is actually one reason I'm not using the Japanese voices after testing them out in a few scenes, because I actually do know enough sometimes to know that the English text isn't precisely matching what's being said in Japanese, and that's distracting), but for the most part it's just the localization adding flavor and color to the conversation to sound like a more natural dialogue in English. In a game with thousands of pages of text, I can forgive a line or two here and there not being exactly perfect.

It not being a widespread thing is really encouraging.

To be clear, I have actually seen most, if not all, of the lines that were mentioned in that thread's OP. They just didn't come across as "wrong" within the context of the game the way they do when they're divorced from the game and presented on their own without context.

There are also plenty of other things that are deliberately "wrong" but obviously intentional, like Ryuji's frequent use of the word "prolly."

My secret hope is Ian really likes the game enough to be compelled/inspired to make some Persona themed Easy Update(think like his Bound episode) thing cause I can imagine a few hilarious things based on the core premise of the game. Although I also think he might not have the time to play it for quite some time.

I'd like to hear Ian (and every other Ally) give in depth thoughts on Persona at some point.

But what I'd really like from Ian would be his thoughts on NieR Automata after getting all the endings. I dunno if the gameplay would resonate with him at all and I doubt it's on his radar of games to play, but I'd like to hear his thoughts on the story/themes/characters.

he loves the souls-style storytelling so i don't know how much he would like automata. i'd love bosman take on ending E and context tho

I think Ian would love this, because it follows his idea of videogame much more than most games, with everything being there for the sake of storytelling.
Plus it's just so against everyone's expectation i csn not see how he would not at least enjoy it.

Same as Bosman, he likes context so much, this game is King of Context.

I know Ian has a preferred type of story telling, but I don't think that means he will automatically dislike anything different. It's entirely possible he would play it and not like it, of course, I just have a feeling. There's plenty of lore in archives and stuff anyway.

not if we don't show footage. The original series didn't.

And it was great! I thought the B-Roll in BSKM was unnecessary and felt bad that Jones felt he needed to take the extra time to capture it/edit it in.

I just find the idea less exciting when it's only people talking about the game for an hour with no clips. I think with Persona since everyone's playthrough is different, showing different sides/Social Links/Cooperation is half the appeal for something like this.

Don't listen to this man!

Why didn't Ben just compare Persona's to Pokemon when explaining that mechanic?
He made the whole thing sound way more complicated and intimidating than it actually is.
Fusing Persona's to create new types and losing certain powers, but gaining new powers? That's the evolution mechanic from Pokemon!
I love Ben's passion, but you could see Kyle squirming at the explanation, when it's just the same a mechanic from his favourite series.
Jones got the similarities, but the explanation was still not clear. It's a shame.

I have never played more than 2 or 3 hours of a Persona game, but I followed what Ben was saying.

Not only that but Pokemon run horribly on original 3DS, which is what the capture unit is based on (AFAIK).

I can already imagine Kyle saying he got Mara and Jones only reacting off cam when he's cutting the episode.

I've always thought of SMT in general as sort of "demon Pokemon," so it probably would have been a pretty easy way to hook them in. I think he described it all pretty clearly, though.

It is a little more complicated as you can fuse multiples of any persona with any other persona, but yeah in a nutshell comparing it directly to pokemon gets the point across.

Haven't seen that part myself yet, but I do think it's much better to explain the mechanic on it's own than just say "it's like Pokemon". Since they are also talking to an audience. Even Kyle often asks clarifications in the podcasts when people are talking in terms or about things that the panel is aware of, but the audience should also be on the same page. Ofcourse the explanation can include comparisons to similar mechanics in other games but it isn't enough.

Like if someone would ask how ambush works in Wasteland 2, saying that it's like overwatch in Xcom wouldn't say much to someone who hasn't played Xcom.

Everything in The Last Guardian is there for the sake of storytelling but he still hated it. I don't think it takes much to turn him against a game, so I could easily see him not liking path B or something else and hating it.

It's more with Kyle saying there's stuff he's not going to do based on how it was explained.
Like when he wants to catch a Persona, he's gonna look up a guide because he doesn't want to lose out. Does he do that in Pokemon? Does he glitch it so he has unlimited masterballs? Missing out on stronger Pokemon makes the hunt all the more sweet.
Fusing Persona's to create a new one and losing the old ones? Does he not evolve his Pokemon? No more Charmeleon if you want Charizard.
Losing certain moves to learn new ones. Does his Pokemon just keep the starter moves until lvl100?
I just think there was a much easier way to explain the mechanics and in a less stress inducing way, knowing the kind of gamer Kyle can be.

Haha another salty rage quit cut by huber. Poor man just wanted a run. Hope that makes the best of video, Huber has had a number of good hard cuts. The best are the Darkest Dungeon ones

Podcast Early Audio is up

Spoilers: Kyle advertises the best of video series! (I actually have to check them out myself still)

Finally took the plunge and started watching Evangelion

Just finished the first episode.....I really like it? I think?

Shinji whining at the end was a red flag, and my understanding is that's a good majority of the show. Lol. Cool stuff though. I'm watching the dub and it's way more "saturday morning cartoon" than I was expecting. Makes it all the more intriguing that the later episodes apparently go off the deep end into existentialism and depression or whatever

Credits sequence is pure class

EDIT: Episode 2 starts.................ughhhhhhhhhhhh

My favorite piece of fiction.

But boy oh boy are you in for a ride.

DO NOT GO HERE YET: http://wiki.evageeks.org/Main_Page

Once the series is done this will be a great resource as well as /r/evangelion

And any questions you wanna keep in the thread I will gladly answer or just PM me.

I hope you enjoy it!!!

Also the Shinji whining thing is easier to swallow with the JP VA. The English VA did a great job but made him tougher to experience IMO

Yeah I'll definitely see this through

It's something that I've read about constantly and I know it's influenced a bunch of things I really like (even music), I've just never really gotten around to watching it. Doesn't help that it's pretty hard to watch (legally) without buying a 200 dollar DVD set or something

Of course I'm watching legally. Of course. Yes sir, nothing to see here. Certainly not Bing video results from Myspace of all places

Don't get caught up in the commentary or ultra deep nonsense that people come up with for Evangelion. The lengths that people go to say that Evangelion is a statement on everything in life is insane.

Man, I miss Bosman v Huber bet shows so much. Pains me beyond measure we won't see that anymore. Even before watching anything GT besides the occasional Final Bosman, I used to always watch the betting shows with such joy.

My timing for saying this isn't corresponding with anything. I just happened to randomly watch a couple of E3 bet shows from years past and I just loved the Bosman/Huber rivalry.

Yeah that is the bad thing about it. There hasn't been an officialy enlgish release for a long time. And no one has its license.

So do what you have to do.

Podcast spoilers
Oh my god if only more people had Huber's attitude regarding spoilers. Dude works in game media one of the few positions where I totally understand that it might be unreasonable to expect to totally avoid spoilers. Yet he takes full responsibility for it. Can't say how often I see people unreasonably blaming all kinds of stuff for getting spoiled and I'm just rolling my eyes. I feel the same as Huber as in taking responsibility. Pretty much all the times I've been spoiled was pretty much on me and could have been avoided if I really cared to. We just had a thread recently talking about a twitter bot that spoils Persona 5 and I was just face palming seeing people post into that thread and got spoiled by the bot trying to block it as describes. Honestly to me that would have been the sign to just chill out and live without twitter for like 3-4 days.
Much respect to him and Kyle too!

Sweet, Kyle got the Patron RSS feed working too. Seems to work fine.

Just go to patron.com/easyallies on desktop (or request desktop page on Chrome on Android) and go to the overview page to grab your own personal link.

I was wondering how EZA would feel about adding a send in/question/suggestion segment to Spoiler Modes open to Patrons at a certain tier(maybe add it to one of the higher already existing tiers to make them more enticing like maybe 25 or something? Just make it high enough that going through them doesn't add too much more reading/prep work because it's too many people sending suggestions/questions/etc to read through). Like drop an exclusive post a week before you guys record one of these.

Reason for that is that I've read some people being slightly disappointed that something wasn't covered, basically gives a chance to maybe remedy that. Doesn't even have to be something included in the video can just be a exclusive patreon post for EZA to get a better sense on what the community would love to hear their takes about.

Maybe it's too much additional work though or takes too much creative control away not sure.

Not gonna lie, your enjoyment may depend quite heavily on how you like the characters.

MultiJhonny already posted two great links, but when you're done or wanna discuss something big eith a few people without cluttering another thread, check out the Neogaf OT. No self advertising here, no sir.

You will be ashamed of your words and deeds, Bosman

What is this nappy stuff with Huber I've missed out on?

It must have happened during a FrameTrap where they were discussing something I didn't want spoiled so I never watched it.

Can someone please tell me the video and time stamp?

Yeah, it was in Frame Trap two weeks ago when they were talking about Nintendo Switch.
