After watching the new Drive Club footage. It seems PS4 games are quite a lot better than Xbox One. While Forza 5 has higher frame rate, it just looks like a upressed Forza 4, where as Driver Club looks like a generation ahead with it's lighting system. Also Killer Instinct being 720p is another reason why I think Xbox One is weaker, but it could just be the inexperienced outsourced developer making the game. Finally Killzone Shadow Fall looks to be amazing, especially now that we hear they are targetting 60FPS for multiplayer. And of course inFamous Second Son looks amazing.
Comparing Drive Club, inFamous Second Son and Killzone Shadow Fall to Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, Ryse and Forza 5 has shown PS4 seems to have an advantage. Of course their are games like Knack, Project Spark and etc that don't really push the systems, but their main big budgeted titles are good showcases of what the systems are capable of.
I don't know...I personally find Drive Club's visuals to be a bit lacking compared to Forza's. That isn't to say it isn't a good looking game (because it is), but I just don't see it being better looking visually. They're definitely doing some interesting and difficult things from a technical perspective, and I respect that...but I think that's reduced the game's ability to really shine graphically (at least compared to Forza).
Now, the PS4 does shine in many other games, though (KZ, Infamous are awesome looking), but I personally don't see Drive Club being one of PS4's shining stars at the moment. It's honestly just there to fill a spot in the launch lineup (every launch lineup needs a driving game...). It does look like a fun game, though.
And not to nitpick, but I think KI and Ryse look pretty sweet. Yea, I know KI is 720p, but I personally think it looks pretty awesome. And Ryse is visually stunning (first player). Whether it'll be a fun game remains to be seen, but it's definitely REALLY pretty. I don't think these games are any better than PS4 offerings; but I wouldn't say they're a level behind, that's for sure.
Dead Rising is in the same category as drive club, in my opinion. It looks pretty, but it's obviously being held back visually by all of the technical stuff they're trying to push (shitloads of zombies on screen, open world, etc.). It makes sense that it isn't the best looking game on the platform.
And just a minor point:
Using first party games to define the power of the system is so hard and problematic...there are so many variables. Who's to say that the same developers couldn't reach the same point on the other platform? I'm sure if Naughty Dog was an Xbox One developer, they'd be making that system shine. This is one reason I always disregard 1st party game comparisons...
As a scientist, the variables of the comparison just bother me too much that I can't get past it. Certainly won't stop fanboys from each side from doing it, though.
