Edge: PS4 to launch in Europe in early 2014, US/JP 2013, more powerful than next Xbox

8GB of GDDR5... No f'ing way that happens.

I mean,I'd love it if it did, and I'd gladly pay for it, but there's just no way.

You're getting lost in the details. Throw art direction out the window, Sony's 1st party titles have overall, been more impressive from a technical stand point, in most aspects. Again, overall, majority, etc. Maybe Sony has more talent on the 1st party side of things.

The details are what matters most though. This is why making generalized statements that either next Gen system is "X times" more powerful than their predecessor is flawed. You don't look at these system as a whole, instead you see that one system is better with X while the other is better with Y.

Am I the only one, who thinks things like this are just a waste of resources? I just don't understand why everything should be able to be shared via internet nowadays. I just want to play my games.
For people that like to be competitive it can help to see how better players play. This is going to be a boon to the 'play to win' gaming scene.

This feature is most likely running within the OS core and memory so it's not like it's taking resources away from games.

This sounds pretty awesome. But how much processing power will this Video recording software need to use up to capture the video as your playing. I'm thinking PS OS footprint is going to be bigger than some expect if this is true. But I really have the wait and see approach until the 20th when we get real info on the console.

Why the fuck there are comparison screenshots of old games here on a PS4 thread?

Those wont even matter next gen.

It's 2013. One of the greatest things this gen was worldwide releases becoming the norm rather than the exception. You can't just put that genie back into the bottle.

Sure they can..

It's pretty much guaranteed, that Sony would launch in the EU later. Others have pointed out that the Vita launched in the EU and NA at the same time, but Japan still got it first, as is the norm.

So, before this news, it was a given that Japan would get it first.

The news here is not that the EU will get it late, but that NA will get it early (assuming it launches same time as Japan, which I find unlikely)

Did people honestly expect to get a Sony console launched WW at the same time?

Why? Why would anyone think this would happen. That's what I dont understand.

Sony is so far in a much better position / perspective than at the launch of PS3. The signs are good.

=\

At this point in time how can you actually believe that? Far too early to say that and last time Sony was pretty much king. Things have changed a lot.

It is getting interesting though. :)

If they pull this shit again on Europe I am going Xbox. fuck sony in that case. Second class treatment of the most loyal market needs to stop.

Guys please read its more to do with Europe's complex distribution system. I am sure Sony wants it to release ASAP in Europe too!

They can, but the backlash will be a lot greater than it would have been in the past, as evidenced by this thread. As others have said, the Xbox brand has gotten a lot more awareness than last time. A lot of the hardcore players who snubbed it before have been convinced by it this gen, and Kinect did a lot in making the casual crowd pay attention to it. If they give the Xbox a 3 months lead or more, they will feel it.

Somebody made a post that when you go exclusive it means better graphics than multiplatform games. I proved that theory wrong.

Because it's the year 2013 and it's about time a loyal Playstation fan base in Europe stops getting screwed over by bullshit console delays.

I guess we have been spoiled by games and other devices being WW releases (Or a matter of days apart).

This leaves a very bitter taste for a fan base that bailed Sony out early on with the PS3. How about a little thanks?

That complex system does not seem to affect Microsoft, Apple or Nintendo.

.

I'm curious if the next gen consoles will outperform my pc when they come out, (Ivy @ 4ghz, and Superclocked 660ti in dual sli).

I do know that with the consoles you'll be able to program much closer to the metal, at least on the PS4.

Nope I was sharing this new rumor with my friend just now and he said "Who gives a shit about screenshots? Who honestly cares about other people's screens?"

And....I couldn't really argue. I would likely never bother looking unless a friend took one and bugged me to look.

This is exactly what it means. I let the hype take me for a milisecond myself but the feasibility of 8GB GDDR5 in a 2013 console is slim to none. 4GB is awesome as it is.

pretty much. They are probably looking at sticking in 4GB worth of the cheapest crappiest ddr3 memory they can find and not even soldering it to the board alongside the 4GB of ddr5 just so they can stick 8GB on the box. If they can do it for a few extra dollars, it might be worth it in terms of marketing. But yeah, 8GB of ddr5 would silly.

People do it on Steam all the time. It's a great way for you to show off what you've been playing and it's free marketing for developers. There is no reason to not do it.

Man, it is so tough not responding to this stuff. The truth shall be revealed soon.

I have no interest in it either, but you can't deny that sharing is really rather big right now.

Right, I mean even if everyone doesn't do it, those who do are good viral/word of mouth marketing tools.

Plus the video capture is exciting too. I loved making and editing videos in Skate and uploading them.

4GB of GDDR5 is what the system will have obviously which is a godsend and a huge reason for why it's so easy to work with.

The worst part is that Sony had more than enough PS3 supply to launch in Europe in Dec 2006. I hope this is not a situation where Sony overestimate Japanese demand again and sacrifice the European launch.

More than anything else, if there are legitimate shortages of PS4 because of the global launch then it can be good for them. Such high demand for a Sony product hasn't been seen since the PS2 and it would get them quite a few good headlines if there are shots of people queuing outside shops in the run up to Xmas with "PS4 in stock here" banners in the window.

Man I hope there's more to this new system than sharing video and screens, I don't give two shits about either of those, and I'm sure majority of people feel the same way.

I'm just glad it apparently doesn't drain processing power, that's all I care about. If people want extra unnecessary features that's fine as long as they don't drain my power for games.

Early 2014 for Sony means that I'll likely go with MS again this gen (unless the new Xbox actually ends up looking awful).

Its my Birthday early December so was hoping to convince the girlfriend to get me the new xbox for that!

If they say it's coming in early 2014 and it arrives in early 2014 it's not delayed.

Sorry. :p

I'll go train for every day it is absent from EU while available in Japan and channel my ripple energy into flipping my desk straight through the window of the south west corner office on floor 24 of Sony HQ all the way from across the oceans.

That'll teach em.

I can see plenty of use in forum console wars. If both machines can capture uncompressed shots and videos from their games every user would be able to run their own DF comparisons.

System wars taken to the next level!

Video and screens of your game time seems like the next logical progression of achievements. I'm guessing both MS and Sony have extensive features in this area, probably even moreso for MS.

What's wrong with comparing exclusive games?

Comparing multiplatform games is like looking at the lowest common denominator since the game has to run on two completely (looking at the 360 and PS3 here) different platforms.

Comparing exclusives on the other hand allows you to judge the best the system has to offer since the game is custom tailored for that hardware.

I do think Red Dead looks better on most aspects than Infamous 2, but the game world is much more sparse and empty. Not to mention that Rockstar is a huge developer and Sucker Punch is a much smaller one.

You don't understand if you insist on asking this after reading my post you quoted.

It's NOT about supply, it's about branding, language, specific laws and regulations in each EU country, marketing, distribution, etc.

Important to notice this info lacks 3D camera/Move mentions. No verified leak has mentioned this as part of the shipping unit. I believe it is in the developer documentation, it is probably part of the ecosystem as a peripheral.

I want POWER. Under the hood needs to be a beast to convince me to upgrade from a console that is pushing out Beyond, The Last of Us and God of War Ascension-level eyecandy.
