Elden Ring Nightreign sold 2 million in 24 hours.

FROM: from now onwards, we will priorise on GaaS,please on hold all the current Single player projects now.

I pray we get a couple more single player masterpieces before they sell out completely and become multiplayer focused... (game is fun btw but dangerous).
Miyazaki said in an interview regarding Duskbloods that they definitely still plan to do single player experiences. So I understand people being concerned, but this sounds like it was merely a test/experiment. Probably the same with Duskbloods as well. What exactly they're wanting to get out of it? No clue, lol.

It's not GaaS, lmao. Nor is Duskbloods.

The negative ones here won't believe you anyway.

The director of this game is Junya Ishizaki, who is in charge of a different team at Fromsoft. Fromsoft who have already grown in size. Again, bringing it back to Capcom, this would be like stating that Capcom will disregard Resident Evil to solely focus on their fighting games portfolio. It just doesn't add up.

From video footage, I do like the movement and the more distinct classes/abilities, I have to say. I hope they incorporate this in some way in a future single player game.

Is there any kind of progression outside of the individual matches?

That was always my thing. Building my account. I can't get into games that are just individual matches with zero progression...that said it don't take much. I'm easy. Is there ANY progression in the game at all?
its like Monster Hunter in that regard. You get relics and money. money can buy new weapons / armor. I think main boss kills can get you remembrances to get permeant weapons as well. you can upgrade your weapons once you reach a certain event. beating a main boss unlocks other runs. Relics are basically like talismans.

You obviously follow Elden Ring's twitter and made this thread but didn't read into it at all at any point? Apologies for thinking someone who's a regular on an enthusiast gaming forum had a bit more knowledge.
A gaming enthusiast website where people have a backlog that will last them 3 lifetimes. People can enjoy a product and write off a sequel or dlc lol

Why are you personally butthurt over this anyway? I asked a question, it was answered, yet you're choked up. Do you take medicine for this? If not, you should.

Not at all, it's just funny seeing the same question asked again and again in every thread about this game for like a year since this game was announced. Like I said, since you're a regular, I imagined it would've been seen and absorbed in the past year. Good one though.

Why did everyone give Capcom a pass for this in the 90s and 2000s? They reused sprites almost every year, but you guys love these games:

Why isn't Fromsoft allowed to make their own Vs or All stars game just once?

I can't tell if some of you are being sarcastic or not.
Hey, for myself, the same critc was valid back them - except for Marvel Vs Capcom 2, the reworked a lot of assets 🙃

In a shameless way like this game? Nah... (but Havel is WAY cooler that bullgoat, i give that :-D)
Sure i dont give a shit about asset reusing. There have been many games where i thought a roguelike mode would be awesome if they made it as a standalone game.

And asset reusing has always been a thing with from software. Thats why elden ring had over 300 weapons with unique movesets and a ton of enemy variety and you dont see that in other AAA games ever. It's because they use animations that they have used before. I dont need a character to have a new animation for a claymore slash in the next game. That one will just do. It's not like the new one will be any better anyway, just different. Who cares.

I just called it an asset flip spinoff, which is literally what it is. Never said they "weren't allowed" to make one.
I like the Yakuza games too, they are very asset flippy too.

As a side project I think this is fine. The only thing I find a bit annoying is that I wish they had a more traditional game announced too, instead the only other announced game they have is another multiplayer only game I find even less appealing.

Don't they still have 2 unannounced games from that rumor a while back?

  1. Armored Core
  2. Nightreign
  3. Duskbloods
  4. ??
  5. ??

breath dude. it's just video games.

let's breakdown what I said:

I would probably be more interested if they didn't reuse so many assets

It's a game I'm not super interested in to begin with and then with the reused assets…eh

I indicated this is the sort of game I'm not ordinarily interested in. the fact that the reused so many assets made it even less interesting to me given how much time I put in Elden Ring.

no where did I say FromSoft is not allowed to re-use assets

I swear, as soon as someone says something slightly negative about From, some of you starting see red and freaking the fuck out

no where did I say they aren't allowed to do it. I just said this game doesn't interest me.

You're assigning an unnecessary amount of anger, fandom, and 'seeing red' to my post. None of my other posts in this thread are like that. You also won't see me defend Duskbloods in the future because I don't care about PvP. Now please, read my previous post again with a calmer mind before we keep this discussion going.

Now that I've cleared that up, in my post I was asking a genuine question because some people are speaking hypocritically about this specific game when they don't do the same for others who have done worse. I'm trying to figure out if people keep bringing up the asset usage because maybe it's just the only easy jab people are able to take at the game itself.

There are better criticisms that could be pointed out, like the slightly smaller amount of content on release, which probably means a dripfeed of content in the future.

Let's hope so. Abilities remind me of Shinobi Tools from Sekiro. I also like that weapons have passives and they are in effect by being slotted in and don't require you to be actively wielding it to get their buffs.

Their recycling is fucking lame but it's always a good time to see From being rewarded for completely having gone against every modern gaming grain with the Souls formula. I hope Miyazaki is out shopping for his 10th Porsche while wearing aviator shades right now.

Lmao what? Its an excellent game...wtf are ppl on man that they are hating on this game so much.

Look forward to the total crashout when Duskbloods releases. If they can't handle a Roguelite then just imagine a Extraction Shooter.

"Normal" FS fans just won't give a fuck about those games. They can chase that MP/GaaS crowd...

I don't hate this game, it just looks lazy and uninspiring (ER DLC was already a bit like that), not to mention that I'm completely not interested in MP games.

That is a personal matter, of course, and i DO agree that a tiny bit of variation is enough to expand gameplay in a almost infinite way - heck, a blasphemous blade is just zweihander, and I loved it, t carried me all the way to that fu**ing twink! :-D

But you can see that an Erdtree avatar has the same move set as the Vanguard, a leyndell knight is the same anor londo guard - and the same boletarian knight, and the nameless king is on Nightreign... i believe this is a little bit too much :-(

All I'm really seeing from a vocal minority is...

Exhibit A: Man Fromsoft makes the same game all the time how boring why don't they do something new?

does something new

Exhibit B: This is bullshit this is nothing like their last game why can't they make the games they used to I hate it when they try to do something else.

-----------

All I know is I'm having fun and that's all that matters to me.

People saying that the game is trash without even playing it is the norm here… The game is amazing, the word of mouth is going to be really good, also i expect a lot of Monster Hunter payers joining.

I don't think it's fair to say that. I know plenty that are hardcore FS fans that are interested in both. Again, this isn't GaaS, lmao. Nor will Duskbloods be.

I understand it's not for everyone. But I don't think it's fair to consider it lazy or uninspirsed when it was clearly an experiment being sold for a lower price.

The game may have already peaked for the day. Hit 175k earlier. Now it's at 165k. Could see another bump when US bros get home from work. We'll see.

Could definitely see this selling extremely well the first few days and then falling off a cliff.

And that's why I think Duskbloods will be even more successful even if it takes longer due to it being a Switch 2 exclusive. It'll take time but ultimately I think it will be more successful. Also just because it's exclusive now, doesn't mean it won't be ported in the future.

It sure seemed that way for Doom TDA lol.
Pretty sure Doom failed to meet expectations in both sales and Gamepass uplift, regardless.

What? 😂 The game probably is profitable in just 24 hours.
See the above.

Depends on how the Extraction Shooter genre is handled with Duskbloods. That and Nintendo's history with Online infrastructure. So little info is available so any judgments made will be premature. Need more details and how the game plays.

As much i want to see Duskbloods succeeding, theres zero chance that is going to sell more than Nightreign… If the game sells 2-3M in their entire lifetime as a new IP is a success on their own.

It's not a judgement...it's a prediction. New IP or not...it's a SoulsGame. Guess what else was a new IP. Elden Ring. The exclusivity does hamper the initial success a bit, but if the game is good...and is ported, I think it's going to do better.

No, because it's a rogue like. That's what was missing.

Well, congrats on the revelation, I guess. If those additional features aren't your jam, it's okay. In my opinion, I think it's an interesting enough concept that was worth a shot. Initial sales would suggest that the market wanted it.

Elden Ring was hyped for years and is a multi platform game + George RR Martin x Miyazaki "collaboration"… Like i said, i would love to see Duskbloods succeeding but you need to manage your expectations.

One of the most successful cash grabs in quite some time (cash grab in this case => shameless asset reusing)
FromSoftware has been reusing assets since the original Demon's Souls...
Bro, WHAT!?

This is how you know the franchise is definitely mainstream.

Are we the vocal minority now?

Hey looks like Miyazaki still can't miss. Duskbloods will be even more successful.

Success is not determined in the first 24 hours.
A PVP(VE) centered game with "souls" mechanics releasing on a family/casual player focused console with a small install base that requires 8 players per match (not 3 like Nightreign).

After 2 months or as soon as a big Nintendo game releases Duskbloods will be a desert with 10min+ wait for matchmaking.

Even for Nightreign I give it 4 months top unless they enable cross play.
When the DLC releases the playerbase will be less than half.
