Elden Ring Nightreign sold 2 million in 24 hours.

FromSoftware has been reusing assets since the original Demon's Souls...

A PVP(VE) centered game with "souls" mechanics releasing on a family/casual player focused console with a small install base that requires 8 players per match (not 3 like Nightreign).

After 2 months or as soon as a big Nintendo game releases Duskbloods will be a desert with 10min+ wait for matchmaking.

Even for Nightreign I give it 4 months top unless they enable cross play.
When the DLC releases the playerbase will be less than half.
Wait....requires 8 players to match?

So...this is not a traditional Souls game?

I take back everything I've said in this thread.

"The Duskbloods will be PvPvE – pitting players against each other and NPC enemies in a bid to take something called the "First Blood"".

Yeah, it's weird. Miyazaki said the reason he's doing it is because he's always been interested in working on a PVPVE game. He said that he has always found the amount of possibilities that can happen interesting. But he also said that he personally isn't the best at PVP and isn't a big fan of it, and that the game "can be played your own way". Which I'm really not sure what that means, lol. Cause if it's a game where you have to worry about other players, how could it be played in a way where they won't interefere with your experience? Lol.

"Developed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2; 'THE DUSKBLOODS' is a PvPvE title with online multiplayer at its core, where up to 8 players vie for supremacy among themselves and against challenging foes.

Play as the "Bloodsworn"; a group that has transcended human strength thanks to their special blood, and throw yourself into a violent fray for "First Blood" as the twilight of humanity approaches."

Sony could have bought them for cheap; however, decided to buy Bungie for a premium. Makes you think....
What makes you think FROM has any interest getting bought by Sony?

Especially how Sony is this gen FROM is much better off without them.

It depends on if there will be some sort of "single player mode" that are essentially multiplayer trials. I used to have a ton of fun playing Perfect Dark multiplayer challenges, Quake 3 campaign, Unreal Tournament campaign, etc. with some games allowing for custom bots, custom modes, and tons of other features.

For some reason all of the modern multiplayer devs ripped this stuff out and decided gamble with either having players or having no one.

Bro, WHAT!?

This is how you know the franchise is definitely mainstream.

Are we the vocal minority now?

Hey looks like Miyazaki still can't miss. Duskbloods will be even more successful.

Yup, we are NeoGAF are now becoming the vocal minority in hardcore gaming.

It is certainly a disturbing thought.

Pfft 2 million in sales? Who cares? I want to know how many times GamePass members hovered over the game's entry in the Xbox App. The true measure of success.

Actually I'm extra confused, as I'm not really plugged into the Soulsborne-verse I just figured you people were excited for it. But I guess it's more of a Fallout 76 vibe?

From Software's twitter,

The total number of copies shipped worldwide of the cooperative survival action game "ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN" has exceeded 2 million. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has purchased the game. Thank you very much. We hope you will continue to enjoy your adventures in "Rimbeld". Thank you very much for your support.
Shipped?

What makes you think From has a choice? Sony just became the major shareholder of Kadokawa/From and a full acquisition may be in the cards.

Regardless, anyone who thinks Sony would "ruin" From by turning them into an online MP studio no longer has a leg to stand on, given From has gone down that path all on their own.

If that quote is the correct translation, they have shipped more than 2 million copies. And are thanking the people who purchased a copy. Two different things. Clever wording, if thats the case.

Well, congrats on the revelation, I guess. If those additional features aren't your jam, it's okay. In my opinion, I think it's an interesting enough concept that was worth a shot. Initial sales would suggest that the market wanted it.
Lol

People bought it because Elden Ring has name recognition. And it was $40. The current Steam store has it sitting at mixed reviews.

Who dafuq has 8 friends ? Geez, imagine playing this with 8 randons, def not for me game.

Is that a bad thing? Do you think they were misled?
My guy, more than likely. If I saw Elden Ring in the name, is expect Elden Ring. Not everyone does a lot of research because of spoilers or new mechanics they just want to see. When you see Elden Ring, you think "more Elden Ring to go through".

If Stardew Valley 2 was coming out tomorrow, I would just hope it's a proper sequel. I'd probably watch the initial reveal but that's it. If it semi-sorta looked like the original with more to do, I'd buy it. If it came out and it somehow was a visual novel without any gameplay, I'd be pretty ticked off and wonder what it has to do with the series.

Other games, people research a lot more especially new IPs. There's no initial experience.

Its 2025, nobody cares about games sold. I want to see how many accounts were created, how many feet were traveled and how many bosses were vanquished. Microsoft told me that this is all that matters.

Elden ring launched with mixed steam reviews aswell.

Most of the negative reviews are complaining about no Co op and no ultrawide support. A lot of them are saying the game is great /fun

This type of games are targeting the Asian market, look at the growth of Monster Hunter in China. Probably China saved Monster Hunter Wilds for being a catastrophe compared to World.

Played a few rounds last night, had a great time even though me and the randos got our asses kicked. Looking forward to playing again tonight.

edit: I will admit, it is flawed. I hope they're able to fine tune it over time.

As much i want to see Duskbloods succeeding, theres zero chance that is going to sell more than Nightreign… If the game sells 2-3M in their entire lifetime as a new IP is a success on their own.
That game is definetly being covered by Nintendo. It likely won't sell but it's a way to get early hardcore gamers onboard, same as Sony with demon souls.

And Miyazaki is probably doing it so he can go full experimental without worrying about sales. Although I think his name is strong enough at this point that he can do that anyways.

The game isn't called Elden Ring 2, and the marketing and descriptions of the game don't try to hide what it is.

Well, it's a spin off, which is why it's not called Elden Ring 2. They were also extremely transparent about the game and what it was. So, if anyone had different expectations, it's on them, lol.

It's called Elden Ring. That's enough to make people assume it's a freaking Elden Ring game. It's not complicated that someone would expect it to be a similar type of game.

It is an Elden Ring game, and it is a similar type of game. It's not a proper sequel. It's a spinoff. It's been handled in a very similar way that other spinoffs have been handled before.

Screw this crap From Software!!

Quit milking it!

Give me a King's Field remake!!
From is all about rolling and fast paced combat now, and has been since Bloodborne/Dark Souls 3.

The days of slow dungeon crawling are long gone. :lollipop_pensive:
