Elden Ring - overview trailer

European/Japanese uploads don't need login for age check. Good stuff. It's not the most impressively cut trailer and it's not too spoilery either but explains the game style and various facets of it pretty decently and concisely, even for people who, unlike us, don't know what it's all about already.

I have to resist but you guys are not making this easy.

Looks so gooood. As weird as it sounds i'm a little worried about playing this right at launch and then missing out on secrets haha i usually play through the souls series once enjoy and move on to other games. But then i usually play them after they've been out for a little while and secrets are uncovered.

Also, does this have true co-op multiplayer? I've seen it mentioned before and the trailer touches on it briefly but i'm wondering if my wife and i can play on two separate TV/Series X's in our bedroom together through the whole game?

I don't mean this as trolling or whatever, I'm genuinely curious, what am I missing with the hype around this game?

I've watched a couple of hours of footage from the game via videos and preview streams and the game looks a tad bit boring to me, with the outdated visuals really detracting from what is otherwise lovely art direction.

I enjoyed Demon's Souls remake quite a bit, but I haven't played any of the Dark Souls games. Is there something I'm missing about Elden Ring which should make me more hyped? Genuinely curious as I wouldn't mind grabbing it and playing if I thought I was going to enjoy it, but right now it's looking very mundane to me…
If you enjoyed Demon Souls you ought to enjoy this a lot more if it even comes close to living up to the hype. Demon Souls is a remake of one of their older games with not much changed in the gameplay. The games they made in the years after really improved on Demon Souls and this being the latest and most ambitious has the potential to be their best.

I wish they had made a proper multiplayer mode, not only exclusive to boss areas, and where progress would be transferred over. Doesn't seem really worthwhile to join a game just to beat a boss and then return to your world. There should be some kind of reward if not progress.

Otherwise the world looks great and I'll definitely going to get it somewhen. Hoped it offered better graphics, though. Hair in games from 2013 looks better than this, also lighting and shadows looks dated. For 2022 I expect more, even from a game that's not focused on the visuals, because it seems like there is real basic stuff hidden. Design is amazing, though.

I wonder how much George R.R. Martin influence is in there.
I think he said on his blog he have only written a bit here and there for them, the background and the world. Practically, his influence will probably be marginally and it's more a marketing stunt, getting a huge name on board for selling more copies. I wouldn't expect too much influence of his work.
Found it:
and what they wanted from me was just a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create. And as it happens, I love creating worlds and writing imaginary history.

So I did my bit, and handed off to my new friends in Japan, and they took it from there. And years passed.

That's all totally fine but I genuinely want to know if I'm missing something obvious which might be behind my feeling of "meh" towards what I've seen so far?

I'm not saying that people aren't allowed to like to different things, I'm asking if I'm assessing this wrong or not looking at the right things in the pre-release footage.
As others have pointed out, it's totally fine to just not get the hype. It's definitely not for everyone.

That being said, if you enjoyed Demon's Souls even a little bit... FromSoftware has been on a steady course to greatness with each new release. Every title improves and expands on the fundamental gameplay (combat, lore, build variety, level design, atmosphere, art direction etc.) just a little bit more than the last. And then we get to Elden Ring and it looks like the biggest jump in the formula since Demon's Souls to Dark Souls 1. So large is the jump that Elden Ring looks like the final form of what Miyazaki and team have been striving for since the very beginning.

Yeah man. I'm fucking hyped.

Play DS1/3 and you'll understand. They're cheap enough.

Yeah. People are gonna have whiplash switching from horizon straight to elden ring. I'll probably wait for the ray tracing patch before jumping in.
I personally find Elden Ring's visuals much, MUCH more attractive compare to Horizon, there is more to game's visuals than just raw graphics.

At the risk of sounding like and pedantic ass , one dude answered a similar question with this kind of response 'if you don't know what makes from games good by now you are not going to get why the hype'. To add some more and more politely i would say this.

We hope that this game combines all the best elements from past games with new ones in a exciting way.

Great lore, awesome art direction, fun an expanded gameplay, lot of classes and builds, pve and pvp, stealth, magic, rare items, consumables and gear, online multi-player, open world with the exquisite fromsoft exploring added mounts, dungeons with traps and treasures. Badass bosses. Hopefully refined combat and a great ost.

And again they showed nothing to justify existence of OW here. After this trailer i have the same feeling that it will be just giant barren hub with nothing to do in it.

From what little I played of the network test, that wont be the case. It's easy to find a dungeon or something cool like a miniboss or treasure the moment you start exploring a bit.

It was only a matter of time someone pulled out the "raw graphics" deflection. .
For me the aesthetics is way more Important, doesn't matter how high tech the graphics is if I'm not liking it's aesthetics then all that tech means shit.

I think it means world building in the literal sense. This is From's first open world title and George is well known for having built an intricately detailed Westeros world.

Fromsoftware art style and world design 1000% better that anything from guerrilla. Guerrilla top notch graphics though.
I put about two hours into Forbidden West before uninstalling it and it wasn't because it was bad. It's because I want to save my time in the third person open world for next week.

I'm gonna play horizon eventually. Having finished the first one I know the graphical spectacle we are for. The robots are the real stars of the game. Maybe I will wait until i get a ps5, having said that, Fromsoftware games are unmatched.

I recently watching this show and I admit the world building is pretty cool but I'm not sure I'm actually liking the story itself, I feel my issue with GoT is similar to TLOU2, which both trying way too hard to shock me rather than telling meaningful story, I have zero love for any of its character except one.....

His only I want watch this show but other than, I dont care about anything else about its story or other characters.

The graphics on PS5 were very detailed, but every time the game got deep all I could think about was Elden Ring. It made my Forbidden West experience a lot less rewarding and I just wasn't getting much out of it. No sense in rushing it. Yeah, once the robots show up, you get to experience their AI moving around, and things come to life a bit more. I wanted a Sentinel fight instead of a robot.

It's for people who love RPG elements, great atmosphere, and medieval combat/aesthetics. People who love Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. It will be a more vast, open world, and most likely a better story than those games so why wouldn't we be excited? I don't understand how people can like Ratchet and Clank so I don't post in those threads wondering how people like you can like those hollow graphic showcases so why do you comment here? Graphics are just one element of a video game and I think it looks awesome, not every game needs to push the new-gen systems to their limits.

Imagine saying this in a time where we've just had Sifu, Forbidden West and KOF XV drop.

Those are for the bargain bin.

With the amount of stuff to do in Horizon FB. There is no way I will be getting or playing this anytime soon.

But curious to see what people think of this game when it drops next week.

I'm just as excited for the salt on forums over the seethe and cope of scrubs that got filtered by not git gud as I am for actually playing Elden God Ring.

Is there an interview or preview where they discuss the difficulty level? I have never played Souls games, always heard they are too difficult and I don't have that much time for gaming. But Elden Ring looks amazing, wonder if I will enjoy it? I only play few games a year, and I like to finish games I start.

no joke, this looks like one of the greatest games ever made
it has that BoTW feeling i can't even explain it
I got the same feeling. This game looks exactly like a killer Zelda game with Dark Souls flavor. We could be looking at a future GOAT candidate here.

What is there to discuss? This game is as hard as DS3 but it gives you alot of freedom on how to handle these encounters.

Difficulty of souls games is severely overblown, mostly by fanboys, who feel themselves special by playing such "hardcore" games. They are just slightly harder than average. Yeah if it's your first time you may have some difficulties, but if you already finished one of them you will breeze through others without a hitch. Their main difficulty before was lack of basic QoL features, and in the last games they started to move away from this kind of shitty gamedesign. Also devs said in interviews that this will be their most accesible game to date, because with OW you have plenty of choice where to go, and you can come back later to the areas which you can find difficult. In the end of the day it's an action RPG, there are no problems that you can't solve with leveling up, or good old grind)

The only one that has really really tempted me from the games listed is KOFXV, it looks like quite the step up from 14, but not as nice looking as the beautiful KOF 13.

I bought it on steam and haven't even had a chance to play it yet. The struggle is real. Might just refund it for now and put the money towards Elden Ring provided it turns out as good as we're all expecting.

Those are for the bargain bin.

Just like your posts then.

This looks kind of interesting, so maybe I will give my first soulslike/souls a try. Unless you count King's Field from way back in the day.

That said, I'm playing Horizon Forbidden West right now, with GT7, Atelier Sophie 2 and Wonderlands in the next month, so this will definitely take a backseat for me.
