Elden Ring - overview trailer

I am genuinely so happy that graphics are just a bonus for me, like I think the game looks great but as long as a game has a decent art style I can enjoy them…ultimately I care about gameplay and responsiveness etc. I feel for those that see graphics and then feel a game is spoiled or something if it doesn't reach their expectations. I can't quite explain it.

this looks like it could be one of my favourite games of all time, after watching streams last night. I can't wait!

Bought and playing Cyberpunk, told myself I am too old for Souls games, and then:

Love console commands that make this game look way easier to casual audience. Can't wait for tears.

I have only seen the first official trailer, after that I went to media blackout ignoring Elden Ring news/articles, other trailers, gameplay videos, etc

Why would you want to spoil yourself with so many information about the game? .....Miyazaki's games are best played blind

I wish they had made a proper multiplayer mode, not only exclusive to boss areas, and where progress would be transferred over. Doesn't seem really worthwhile to join a game just to beat a boss and then return to your world. There should be some kind of reward if not progress.

Otherwise the world looks great and I'll definitely going to get it somewhen. Hoped it offered better graphics, though. Hair in games from 2013 looks better than this, also lighting and shadows looks dated. For 2022 I expect more, even from a game that's not focused on the visuals, because it seems like there is real basic stuff hidden. Design is amazing, though.

I think he said on his blog he have only written a bit here and there for them, the background and the world. Practically, his influence will probably be marginally and it's more a marketing stunt, getting a huge name on board for selling more copies. I wouldn't expect too much influence of his work.
Found it:
Yeah, my take is that Martin wrote the backstory / (pre)history of the world - that is, what was the world like before going to the shitter.

Basically making you go like, "So that giant snail with swords for antennas used to be the Baron's daughter? 'Kay."

It looks like a mid level last gen game visually, Lets be honest. But I'm more concerned about the frame rate and haptics on PS5. I hope the 60fps is rock solid and the haptics are as good as Demons Souls remake.

I think this looks freaking amazing, can't believe people complain about the graphics with such amazing art design. After watching that trailer this is the first video game that has gotten me super excited in probably three years.

For me the aesthetics is way more Important, doesn't matter how high tech the graphics is if I'm not liking it's aesthetics then all that tech means shit.
Yes the art direction in Elden Ring is light years beyond Forbidden West but I really dont understand the "raw graphics " thing?

It's just a trailer on a supposedly huge game, I wouldn't worry about it.

Because majority of complain against Elden Ring's visuals mostly about "why it doesn't have next gen graphics" when they show the gameplay for first time, most people called the game "ugly" for that very reason.

FIxed the age-restricted link in OP, thanks.

Also, this is not the release trailer. That one is coming next week.

I don't mean this as trolling or whatever, I'm genuinely curious, what am I missing with the hype around this game?

I've watched a couple of hours of footage from the game via videos and preview streams and the game looks a tad bit boring to me, with the outdated visuals really detracting from what is otherwise lovely art direction.

I enjoyed Demon's Souls remake quite a bit, but I haven't played any of the Dark Souls games. Is there something I'm missing about Elden Ring which should make me more hyped? Genuinely curious as I wouldn't mind grabbing it and playing if I thought I was going to enjoy it, but right now it's looking very mundane to me…
Do you only care about graphics? Then the recently generic Horizon 2 should be your thing

Why are people expecting top quality graphics from a FROM SOFTWARE game?
Have the last 10 years taught them nothing?
I expect acceptable graphics, some performance issues and small bugs and glitches at launch, just like every other of their games.

It's a cross gen game = PS4 game with slight enhancements for PS5
Horizon released and looks like it does and people still believe that cross gen is an excuse for mediocre graphics? Heck even the PS4 version of horizon looks great....
From didn't go for shiny graphics and that's the only reason the game looks like it does. If it's because they just don't care, don't have the budget or can't get their engine up to the task... No one knows.

Elden Ring looks mediocre from a technichal viewpoint and that's ok as long as the gameplay delivers.

From Software games were never about the graphics or the technical stuff

They're about discovery, exploration, cool locations, bosses and the challenge that comes with it

I'm hyped because I know this will be another grand adventure specially crafted by Miyazaki/FROM that I can hopped on .

You guys always complained about unfinished products , microtransaction , hand-holding , terrible level design , linearity , generic or the lack of creature design on modern games .

Well , Souls games are none of those and it still stay true to the satisfaction of self exploration from classic games .

Looks so gooood. As weird as it sounds i'm a little worried about playing this right at launch and then missing out on secrets haha i usually play through the souls series once enjoy and move on to other games. But then i usually play them after they've been out for a little while and secrets are uncovered.

Also, does this have true co-op multiplayer? I've seen it mentioned before and the trailer touches on it briefly but i'm wondering if my wife and i can play on two separate TV/Series X's in our bedroom together through the whole game?
Lol yeah. I skipped so much stuff in ds2 and 3 when I played on release.
I legit don't see anyone discovering purely by himself how how to get to the dragons area with nameless king in ds3.
Bloodborne cainhurst is... also questionable. I would not find it myself.

but to drop down into abyss with ring on in dark souls 1 ?! and it's the main path ?! No fucking way.

Hype is out of control but I'm not watching it, I've stayed strong these past couple of months and I'm not going to cave now when we're just a few days away, can't fucking wait, Praise the Ring!

As others have pointed out, it's totally fine to just not get the hype. It's definitely not for everyone.

That being said, if you enjoyed Demon's Souls even a little bit... FromSoftware has been on a steady course to greatness with each new release. Every title improves and expands on the fundamental gameplay (combat, lore, build variety, level design, atmosphere, art direction etc.) just a little bit more than the last. And then we get to Elden Ring and it looks like the biggest jump in the formula since Demon's Souls to Dark Souls 1. So large is the jump that Elden Ring looks like the final form of what Miyazaki and team have been striving for since the very beginning.

Yeah man. I'm fucking hyped.
I did quite enjoy Demon's Souls. Honestly the main thing that got me to play it was I wanted a visual feast for my new PS5 at launch, but I ended up enjoying the gameplay more than expected, even though I found it very hard as someone new to Souls games.

That's why I'm curious about whether I'm misjudging Elden Ring, or whether I'm allowing the not as good graphical performance to influence my opinion of the footage too much.

If you have a PS5 and PS+ you could download Bloodborne right now at no additional cost and see if it's right for you.
I did actually try to play Bloodborne a bit but the frame rate performance is a bit horrid at times… I'm quite sensitive to that so I struggled to put up with it. Thanks for the suggestion though, was a good idea.

I did quite enjoy Demon's Souls.

It's for people who love RPG elements, great atmosphere, and medieval combat/aesthetics. People who love Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. It will be a more vast, open world, and most likely a better story than those games so why wouldn't we be excited? I don't understand how people can like Ratchet and Clank so I don't post in those threads wondering how people like you can like those hollow graphic showcases so why do you comment here? Graphics are just one element of a video game and I think it looks awesome, not every game needs to push the new-gen systems to their limits.

Those are for the bargain bin.
Jesus Christ why do you all get so sensitive? I liked Demon's Souls Remake quite a bit, I'm wondering if I am missing something from the Elden Ring footage which would mean I might like it as well. I haven't played any other From games so I don't know what to be looking for exactly.

Stop taking it as a personal attack, discussion threads are here to discuss. I never said you shouldn't be excited, I was asking am I wrong to not feel excited, because I think there's a chance I should like the game, albeit not having experience with Dark Souls and Sekiro.

You're more than welcome to go into a Ratchet and Clank thread and say you think the game is shit by the way, I don't get offended when other people don't like a piece of media that I like.

The front facing 2D impostors stand out a lot, but hey one shot of a very large vista.

You do need to realise this is taking a game engine that was not open world on Xbox One and PS4 and making a bigger and more advanced and open world concept on the same HW though.

Horizon released and looks like it does and people still believe that cross gen is an excuse for mediocre graphics? Heck even the PS4 version of horizon looks great....
Unlike Horzion, this game has to run on more platforms. They might have been more focused on getting stable FPS across each platform than having amazing graphics.

Google has put up a count down for relase. Just google "elden ring" and let the hype consume you.

IMO that's the beauty of it and what makes those games so replayable. Also, Kitao said we should not expect anything as obscure as DS3 Archdragon Peak access in ER, but rather better clues to be found in the world or item descriptions for stuff like this.

I plan to play at least twice with little to no help and try to work on secrets on my own, as I did in Sekiro and loved it. Maybe look up a side quest I knew I fucked up the first time around and don't know what to do on the second.

Full wiki with official guide on top around NG+++, going for the plat and 4th and final ending.

I'm going nuts here over not clicking on all this stuff that dropped today. This will be the longest week ever

Washington Capitals Nhl GIF

I am on Elden Ring black out since few months. Almost clicked on the video.
I was fine till Friday. This week will be a torture. Can't wait to jump into it !

I took the following Monday and Tuesday off. It will be glorious :)

Difficulty of souls games is severely overblown, mostly by fanboys, who feel themselves special by playing such "hardcore" games. They are just slightly harder than average. Yeah if it's your first time you may have some difficulties, but if you already finished one of them you will breeze through others without a hitch. Their main difficulty before was lack of basic QoL features, and in the last games they started to move away from this kind of shitty gamedesign. Also devs said in interviews that this will be their most accesible game to date, because with OW you have plenty of choice where to go, and you can come back later to the areas which you can find difficult. In the end of the day it's an action RPG, there are no problems that you can't solve with leveling up, or good old grind)
Agreed with all of this, I just want to add to it. These games also have multiplayer and one of the aspects of it is that you can co-op with others. And yes, this means someone could literally beat a hard boss for you and allow you to continue in the game. All the Souls games typically have really powerful equipment that you can get early on that is over tuned, making the game significantly easier. So if you somehow get hard stuck early on (Where most new players have the most trouble) you can just look up where early powerful x, y, z items are. Day zero of the game there will be a million youtube videos showing how to make the game as easy as possible. So yeah, the games are challenging, but it's massively overblown. These games are typically a lot more lenient and forgiving than most people think, and the more modern ones have been made more accessible to newcomers. Elden Ring looking to be the most focused on this.

Jesus Christ, quit reading responses as if they are all in caps and people are pissed when they are just explaining why they are excited. Maybe you're the sensitive one.

I mentioned Ratchet and Clank because I took your post to come from a non-fan of the Soulsborne games because I've seen a lot of those lately.

Plus people were losing their minds for DS Remake which was a graphics update of the oldest title which we have played to death. You can go back to the reveal and see it yourself. Now imagine a whole new game in a whole new world with plenty of new features, that is pretty much a sequel to our favorite franchise.

Summon players for help, but that progress only stays with the person who summoned.
Progress not being shared makes sense, some trophies or endings might require a boss to be killed in a certain way or in possession of a certain item, if progress was shared then that could screw summoned players depending on their objectives.
