Elden Ring - overview trailer

I just haven't been able to get into souls games despite trying over and over, and yet I'm starting to get a bit hyped for this. Not like super duper excited, just a bit. Definitely eager to read reviews at least.

Also, wasn't George RR Martin involved in this early on? There has been absolutely no mention of his name recently and that's perplexing to be honest. Maybe his shit was cut or just minimal?

He wrote the mythology/background of the world. All the stuff about Ages, the fabled heroes you will fight and who they were. They took that and twisted and turned it to make their story of the current period in the game.

"When Martin wrote these characters, and when he provided that origin story, that mythos for the world of Elden Ring, these demigods were much closer to their original form, and maybe closer to human form back then, before the Shattering, before it all started," explains Miyazaki in the interview.

The Shattering is an event in Elden Ring's pre-game history. The game's location, The Lands Between, was once a kingdom blessed by the titular ring, and the Erdtree at its centre. However, a war known as The Shattering saw the ring broken, and the land's inhabitants transformed.

"So it was more up to us to interpret this and say, 'how did they become such inhuman monsters," continued Miyazaki. "And how did the mad taint of the shattered shards of the Elden Ring and its power affect them?' So that was our job to take these grand heroes and sort of misshape them and distort them into something they were not."

"And I think if we get a chance to show Martin and if he gets a chance to see the game and see these characters, I think he might be a bit shocked. When he wrote them, he was really envisioning something a little bit more human, a little bit more traditional human drama and fantasy characters. So I hope he gets a kick out of that."

Graphics look better than the original videos.

For a FromSoftware game, it looks decent.

Even though it may not look next gen, it doesn't look terrible by any stretch. And I'm OK with that. I'm currently playing God Of War 3 Remastered on the PS4 and I still think it looks fucking fantastic.

He's still listed in the games description on the Sony store so I wouldn't worry

Bought and playing Cyberpunk, told myself I am too old for Souls games, and then:

Love console commands that make this game look way easier to casual audience. Can't wait for tears.

I can still find my Demon's Souls receipt from Play-Asia from 2009. Souls fans have been Souls fans probably since King's Field and Otogi.

I tried quality during the NT and it was completely fine. I don't mind variable frame rates at all and can easily trade them for more fidelity. Did the same with deathloop and death stranding. It's cool that we have options.

Hyped for this game, but I'm not watching the trailer. The only trailer I've seen is the first gameplay trailer. That's enough for me. I want to go into this game blind and for it to feel fresh.

I'm hyped. Just wish I could get a series X or PS5 (I can't hijack my son's PS5) to play it on. The PS4 sounds like a jet engine.

Damn you Miyazaki. These games always have a strange pull on me despite me barely making it through them.

I've almost quit on the first DS due to O&S which I've fought countless times. Still, the game was an exercise in perseverence and beat it in the end. Didn't even finish DS3 and Sekiro despite almost reaching the end but that's more to do with my gaming habits and other things getting in the way. I doubt I'll ever get back into these two with my busy life, even tho I'll never forget that Genichiro skill-check boss fight. Eh, maybe one day.

Bloodborne was the most manageable for me, and even ''one-shotted'' a lot of later bosses (luck, I guess). My second playthrough was great after knowing all secrets and patterns.

I'll surely buy this at some point in time as I love open-worlds and a souls OW seems like loads of fun, especially with it being playable on Deck.

In 2 days we have reviews, gonna be a hype day. Maybe even launch trailer?

In 4 days we have Elden Ring

I've seen spoilers a bit, mostly short clips, which for me personally is fine as I don't have a sense of how to get there..

This will have the best boss fights in a souls game, ever, I can already tell you that.

I just want to know what technical, if any, improvements were made from the tech test. And if the frame rate is still uncapped in quality mode. I actually hope it is.

Yes, I hope they don't cap the quality mode at 30 fps. Let the thing go wild. I've said before that I don't mind variable frame rates for more fidelity. Bring a 30 fps capped RT mode but let me have fluctuation on quality. These modes are also great for when we have more powerful consoles as with Sekiro and Dark Souls 3. I'm tired of this "stable fps" dictatorship.

Can't focus at work. All I can think of is elden this, ring that...
