Looks like Derek Anderson is heading to the free agency market, unless his agent does a complete 180.

Looks like DA is shooting for a 5 year contract. That's a pretty hefty contract (plus you have to give up a 1st and 3rd round pick) to sign the guy. High price for a guy that had one good season.

more like 3/4 of a good season. He seemed to come down to earth as teams started to figure him out. I would just ditch him and throw Brady Service Academy into the mix.

let jared allen go you asshole chiefs! have you no shame? he just wants to be happy. let him come to san fran!

p.s. derek anderson isn't going anywhere. he is a RFA, cleveland doesn't have to pay him shit. they can match any offer he gets, but that team has to give up a 1st and 3rd for him as well. no one is going to do that*

why is Specter even concerned with Spygate? shouldn't he have more important things to be concerned about (like steroids lol). but seriously, i doubt the people of pennsylvania elected him to be concerned about this spygate shit (except maybe bionic)

Former Patriots video assistant hints at team's spying history

Walsh suggested he could have blown the whistle long ago, if he'd been so inclined.

"If I had a reason to want to go public or tell a story, I could have done it before this even broke," he said. "I could have said everything rather than having [Eric] Mangini be the one to bring it out."

....

Despite suggestions that he could be a player in expanding the Spygate probe, Walsh repeatedly has refused to provide ESPN.com with any evidence of wrongdoing by the Patriots. He also has refused to confirm that he has tapes in his possession.

Walsh said he is fearful of possible legal action against him by either the league or Patriots if he details what he knows. He refused to provide evidence of potential wrongdoing unless ESPN agreed to pay his legal fees related to his involvement in the story, as well as an indemnification agreement that would cover any damages found against him in court. ESPN denied his requests.

He said he fears the potential wrath of the Patriots, and their ability to tie him in up in court for an extended period of time. Although he stopped short of saying he has actual video evidence, he suggested he does; and so raised the possibility that it might be viewed as stolen property.

....

At one point, when the discussion turned to potential evidence, he said, "I'd use it if they came after me. The last thing I need is for people to make a case against me."

It wasn't even that the league figured him out as much as that he just wasn't playing all that well to begin with. He had a pretty miserable completion percentage and his play was the result of a great group of receivers (They had a #1 guy, an elite talent level tight end, and a historically reliable possession guy). Even when he was seemingly on fire, it was because he got a lot of yards and a decent number of touchdowns, but he was still wild and throwing interceptions.

I think the Browns would be crazy to offer him a long term contract right now, but they are the Browns, so I rule nothing out.

Source: Pats employee filmed Rams

By John Tomase | Saturday, February 2, 2008 | http://www.bostonherald.com | N.E. Patriots

PHOENIX - One night before the Patriots [team stats] face the Giants in Super Bowl XLII, new allegations have emerged about a Patriots employee taping the Rams’ final walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI.

According to a source, a member of the team’s video department filmed the Rams’ final walkthrough before that 2002 game. The next day, the Patriots upset St. Louis, 20-17, on a last-second field goal by Adam Vinatieri for their first championship.

A walkthrough involves practicing plays at reduced speed without contact or pads. It is common for teams to film their own walkthroughs and practices.

When contacted last night, Patriots vice president of media relations Stacey James said: “The coaches have no knowledge of it.”

Yesterday, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) stated that he plans to summon NFL commissioner Roger Goodell before Congress to explain why he destroyed tapes that showed the Patriots stealing defensive signals over the last two years.

After his state of the NFL press conference yesterday, Goodell was asked if the league’s investigation into the Pats included allegations that they recorded the Rams walkthrough in 2002.

“I’m not aware of that,” Goodell said.

“We have no information on that,” seconded NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.

According to a source close to the team during the 2001 season, here’s what happened. On Feb. 2, 2002, one day before the Patriots’ Super Bowl game against heavily favored St. Louis in New Orleans, the Patriots visited the Superdome for their final walkthrough.

After completing the walkthrough, they had their team picture taken and the Rams then took the field. According to the source, a member of the team’s video staff stayed behind after attending the team’s walkthrough and filmed St. Louis’ walkthrough.

At no point was he asked to identify himself or produce a press pass, the source said. The cameraman rode the media shuttle back to the hotel with news photographers when the Rams walkthrough was completed, the source said.

It’s not known what the cameraman did with the tape from there. It’s also not known if he made the recording on his own initiative or if he was instructed to make the recording by someone with the Patriots or anyone else.

The next day, the Patriots opened a 14-3 halftime lead on the Rams, who were 14-point favorites and operators of an offense known as “The Greatest Show on Turf.”

The Rams didn’t begin moving the ball until the fourth quarter, when their 14-point rally pulled the teams into a 17-17 tie with less than two minutes remaining. Tom Brady [stats] then led the most famous drive in Patriots history for the winning field goal.

The Patriots were fined $750,000 and docked a first-round draft pick for breaking league policy and filming the Jets’ defensive signals from the sideline in September.

Asked yesterday if he believed the Pats used similar films to achieve their three Super Bowl victories, Goodell was adamant.

“No,” he said. “There was no indication that it benefited them in any of the Super Bowl victories.”

This is absolutely despicable. ESPN just posted a story about it: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs07/news/story?id=3227245

That Rams team was so much better... it was a powerhouse, they would've destroyed New England if not for this. To anyone that doesn't know what a "pre-game walkthrough" entails:

a member of the team's video staff stayed behind and taped the Rams' walkthrough -- a non-contact, no-pads practice at reduced speed in which a team goes through its plays.

That's HUGE... and the NFL is helping cover it all up. They haven't even contacted Walsh.

Former St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner, currently with the Arizona Cardinals, told ESPN.com investigative reporter Mike Fish that if the league has heard those claims, he's surprised the NFL has not spoken to former Patriots video department employee Matt Walsh. He said if Walsh or any other source has information, it should be investigated.

...

"If they're doing a thorough investigation -- they didn't contact me," Walsh told ESPN.com.

This is an obvious cover-up. The NFL doesn't want to be tainted.

Needless to say, LET'S GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!

Theres a very outside shot of us getting Anderson. Its very unlikely but the while we can't offer our 1st & 3rd round picks and force the Browns to match our offer(due to the fact that our 1st round pick originally belonged to the Colts) they can however accept it if they wanted.

Anderson + Martz= Greatest Shown on EARTH V1.

Its scary to see it all potentially crumbling down around you.

It is scary to wake up and find out that everything you love was one big dirty lie.

I didn't elect Specter, but if he exposes the Cheatriots then I will vote to reelect his heroic ass.

And ESPN is going to explode if it surfaces that the Pats videotaped the Rams plays prior to the Superbowl. Goodell is obviously trying to make this go away as other teams probably cheated as well and he doesn't want to deal with the scandal. I would be lying if I said I wasn't loving it. :D

Hey, do you remember when Big Ben was saying shit after the 2004 AFC Championship? He accused them of "knowing what I was going to do before I did it" or something to that affect. I think this will ruin Bellicheat's legacy.

I wish I could say I believed the Pats cheated against the Steelers, but that was just the Steelers giving the game away to an inferior team by playing the worst special teams game ever seen.

That Steelers team was scary with a lead against anyone, but once they got down they could lose to anyone, even the Pats.

Still, I hate the Pats. I am proud my state is helping to distract the world from the SB and casting more doubt on this evil franchise and I believe any negativity or conspiracy theory concerning the Pats.

Ben just played like a rookie in that game. The Pats didn't make him throw some garbage throws to the wrong spots in that game. Trust me, I more than anyone want to blame the Pats for anything but I didn't get that feeling from that game. It was just a rookie qb who was not ready to play on that stage.

There's no reason to expect a trade when they can just extend his contract. Every high draft pick rookie contract gets out of hand in the last couple of years.

true.

but i remember hearing some sort of rumor early on in the season about how he was unhappy with the coach and the approach. something about being a running team.

but maybe that was before warner stepped in.

anyway if he was on the trading block....acquiring him would have to be the move eagles have to make.

the rams were back then basically what the pats are today...everybody hated them and wanted to see them fall. thats why nobody outside of rams fans saw anything fishy about their superbowl win.

Well, either way, more is coming out about this. I'm not usually a hater, but I think this would explain a lot.

I can't believe some of you are actually believing this.

Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, "We heard Him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.'" - Mark 14:57-58

What's you definition of finesse? You cant' be talking about either the Colts D or the Pats D since they are both in the top 3 in points allowed so there is nil chance either D is finesse and if you talking offense that's an amusing comment. The Pats morph into whatever they have to do to win games. Early in the season they threw all over everyone because they could. If nobody can stop you from throwing why would you play smash mouth? They ran for almost 150 on SD and Jax when they had too. That's what great teams do. You comment holds no weight whatsoever.

I'm talking moreso about the Pats O than their D. The Pats morph into whatever they want now? if you said that about the Cowboys, yeah I'd take that, as I said above they beat the shit of us on the ground or through the air, whenever they wanted during the season. Your Pats? I've always said that Maroney is a top ten RB in this league, just look at his season stats to see his worth.

As you examine those season stats scroll down to the Giants game, where the Pats tried to get physical and ran Maroney 19 times for an incredible 49 yards. Amazing how the Pats OLine was blowing the Giants DLine off of the ball. Did you get to see the first half of the NYG @ DAL playoff game? That's the OLine dominating the D, and one team overall just crushing the other.

On the Pats D, as I mentioned above it will be important to grind it out due to the age of the LB corps. Further, Ellis Hobbs really beat up Plaxico last game, I hope he can turn it around a bit tomorrow.

You're right though the Pats really stepped up like men against the Giants when they were getting pushed around. Scoring a go-ahead bomb TD on the worst safety in the NFL and a guy that was injured on the play before shows how physical the Pats can get.

So Maroney running bad without 2 of are starting O lineman and our best blocking tight end is your proof :lol Yet you still lost the game. Good luck tomorrow. You'll need it.

Exactly. With them back in the line up, the Pats line with Maroney made the Jag and Charger D their bitch and these were two teams who were supposed to be able to beat up the Pats Line. I am not saying that the Giants D can't do this to the Pats line but to call the Pats a mere finesse team who can't get it done in the trenches is absurd.

Halfway through practice, Patriots' linebackers coach Pepper Johnson noticed something in a third-floor window of a house next to the field.

Club and league officials said a telescope was clearly visible in the window, according to a pool report, and that 15 minutes later, a person appeared at the window, and then vanished.

Officials scanned the window with binoculars, but the person never returned.
It's a good thing the Patriots caught the cheating Rams* and prevented them from adding another tainted championship to their legacy.
