Elon is Time's "2021 Person of the Year"

"great" men are almost always bad men.
I don't understand why everyone is acting so surprised all of a sudden.

Most if the criticism against him is always trying to tone down his accomplishments as if being a total dick wasn't enough.(i'm not even sure he is one, just too removed from the consequences of his decisions)

The criticism is always the same, he didn't do shit, he just bought Tesla, his father own a mine in SA, he was just a coder...

I don't know what to say apart from do more research. We don't care what anybody started, we only care about people who finished.

Guess what I started a marathon, and a startup warp drive, and a replicator company.
I guess i'll just have to wait and take full credit when it's get done.

Elon not known for being nice, just defining finish lines and pushing people there. Getting shit done is one of the truest mode of accomplishment.

Well deserved. An unparalleled visionary.

The salt in certain communities is going to be glorious. Even the reactions under that tweet are salty as fuck.

There was a inteviewer asking him on Twitter how he was able to achieve being a trillionaire... i answered for her:

"By focusing on real world problems not the gender of words and hard work while not being entiteled to everything." ;)

The real answer is: luck. And I'm not saying that to downplay anything, but in the end that's all it is. Everything about him put him in this position. Where he was born, when he was born, having asperger, being smart, being in the right place and time by moving to Canada/US, being obsessed with working and so on. Might be obvious, but the universal lottery makes some people bitter losers on Twitter and others the richest person on earth.

I'd have gone with the frontline healthcare workers the world over, or the young scientists who developed the vaccines, myself.

Lol you guys are anticapting all these hate/salt reponses, but I haven't seen one. Just remember, no one is a savior. 😄🙃

I can remember during the depths of covid hell I was pretty depressed with where humanity was going. I had also personally lost a lot of things. BUT watching SpaceX's resupply to the ISS inspired me. And even if Elon proves a total douchebag in the end, at least he gave me that wonderful little piece of hope.

Now it's time for the James Webb telescope next year. I'm praying for its success!
You haven't looked anywhere but here then. Plenty of incredible hate and salt towards this.

Grimes is legit.

Actually thinking about it again, reminded me of her, no doubt you know her.

Booked tickets for her gig in Ireland and forgot, what a massive fail. Think my Gmail account was full so never received the e-tickets. What a failure. Had forgotten i'd even bought them as was so far in advance, small very personal venue too. I was gutted when I realised that I'd missed it. Very intimate venue, would have been sublime to hear live.

Perhaps next time. And I love metal/funk/rock most music when done well. I really regret missing seeing her. Then as a metal fan I was infatuated with 'Air'. I have synesthesia so music does weird things to me and I wouldn't change it for the world. Seeing pictures and colours audibly, it truly is a blessing.

So apparently Time's awarded a racist with an automobile company being sued by the state of California for rampant racism (not SJW microaggression stuff, either; actual Jim Crow and slavery-era stuff) towards black/African-American workers at a few of their Tesla plants, with Person of the Year?

Massive oof. Honestly never liked the guy anyway; something seemed off with him and I guess I know what it was now. If that case actually results in convictions, and now knowing he knew of what was happening but didn't bother to clean things up, it's honestly pretty disgusting and all the signs of a depraved narcissistic idiot.

Yep sounds like something he would say. Too bad he might actually be the sort of person who's way more than just joking about this stuff.

I stated that I respected his achivements but his loyal fanbase who are unable to think critically when it comes to Elon Musk, are the ones I really take issue with and you my friend just proved my point have good day sir.

Musk is a private entrepreneur not an elected official. guy dreams big and put's his time and money in trying o fulfil it. some ideas may seem whack but you can't really know what works or not until you try.

Resetera parody post?

Have you not even bothered to look into the case against Tesla? At all? Or are you just that lazy?

That massive oof is a dead giveaway.

Sadly it's not. That's a legitimate oof.

Like I said, it involves like a decade of abuse at Tesla factories and apparently even he was aware but didn't care to look into it. Now California is.

I know this was bumped to make a joke but Elon hype/bullshit is annoying, although hilarious to see people like Sam Harris take him literally. This pod skewers the Mars colony crap pretty well:

And this tongue in cheek one makes it clear how hostile the environment is on mars:

It doesn’t get much better for some of his more down to earth ventures like neuralink which are sold on scientifically illiterate claims

Its crazy ambitious and will take hundreds if not thousands of years. But if Elon has the drive and skills to take the first steps, I dont see how you could be against it. Its so easy to be a naysayer.

I remember when he accused that rescue diver for being a pedo because he critisized his stupid idea of putting Kids into his prototype submarine.

Also him: "AI is a bigger threat to humanity than nukes - oh hey I will invent the AI and here is a chip so it Will syncronize with your brain, and also here are autonomous robots"

"Damn, that girl Grimes would surely make for a good wife"

Elon Electric is an idiot.

Do you have proof that the court's prosecution are fabricating claims and evidence? If not then you've got nothing to add.

Maybe you don't think getting called porch monkey and nigger with swastikas left around is abuse but I'm sure the employees who went through that would feel differently. And if you're just that dense, surely getting hit with a chair by your supervisor must count as some type of abuse.

Again if those claims are fake, basically meaning the state prosecution are fabricating claims and evidence, please show some proof that such is the case. Otherwise their litigation holds endless more believability than your opinion.

So you're implying a conspiracy, but have no proof to even so much as hint that one is afoot? Makes you look extremely dumb. By that logic they could be filing a case against any random tech millionaire/billionaire or a company they therein own. But they've specifically filed one against Tesla, which is owned by Elon Musk, and there are transcripts with plenty of accounts mentioning the type of racial & physical abuse lodged specifically at black employees there by management, as well as Musk knowing but doing nothing.

You guys look like a bunch of 'tards trying to argue a conspiracy but can't even draw up at least some proof. Even a smidgen of it, but nope (and I'm of course open to any such proof to show something fowl's being done by California prosecution to target Musk & Tesla for....reasons).

Elon Electric is an idiot.

Just another semi-marketable face to pimp in the ongoing "culture war" that's gotten big tech entangled (they are arguably responsible for helping foster it though, i.e algorithms).

His fanbase looks more like a cult of personality with every passing day. Just look at everyone implying the state of California has a conspiracy specifically against him and Tesla, despite the fact they wouldn't open litigation against his company if they didn't have substantive evidence to work with.

I'm even asking them for proof (any proof) to prove the claims in that case are fabricated and untrue, but they can't even comprehend how to being doing it 🤣

No conspiracy, just a good ol’ fashioned digging.
It’s the price of fame.

The only other choice was Joe Rogan, so it's probably the safest one. 😄😄

Elon biggest accomplishment is not letting typical business thinking stop him, but still keeps his concepts rooted in the capitalist system. But in the end he is his greatest product.

Calling him an idiot and making fun of Grimes might be a bit too much, but dont pretend I need to be a billionaire, date catholic girls and whatever to be able to say that a guy like him is dangerous.

Being sceptical of that man and his visions is a necessary and good thing.

Do. You. Have. Proof. That. The. State. Of. California. Is. Fabricating. Evidence. Against. Elon. Musk. And. Telsa. Regarding. Racial. &. Physical. Abuse. Directed. At. Black. Employees. At. Factories. In. California?

That is the simplest this can be broken down. So can you do what that question asks, or can't you? Because if you can't, everything else is just putting your own feelings over mounting facts. Musk doesn't need you to have a persecution complex for him, unless you've 100% bought into his cult of personality.

Go slither back to Era or whatever hole you emerged from.

I've been on GAF (with this account) since 2019, dumbass, so how about you either try proving there's a conspiracy against Musk & Telsa, so just STFU and go back to conveniently thinking I'm being an idiot simply because I don't share your cultist fanboyism for another grown man.

Imagine what they could dig up on you if you did something with your life.

If some factory workers are using slurs or behaving in a prejudicial way toward other factory workers that should absolutely be addressed and steps should be taken to minimize recurrence of that behavior. However, if a company employing over 100,000 workers receives some complaints, investigates them, and isn't able to find actionable evidence, it is a stretch to say that this is indicative of the CEO being a "depraved narcissistic idiot." Allegations that the Tesla Fremont factory was a segregated workplace are troubling and unlawful if true, but these are all allegations in an unresolved lawsuit for now.

Letting yourself become outraged by headlines is a surefire way to be manipulated.

Oh no, you've been here since 2019. Way to go, king.

And yeah I like Elon Musk as well as other people. How dare I.

And sorry I'm not the cult trying to constantly find something to go after Musk with like his haters do because unlike many people in big tech, he has different political views that they don't like. I don't think I'm the one who's part of the cult here.

These aren't headlines; they're documents accounting the claims from various affronted employees with detailed accounts. The reason I'm aware of this is because the headlines were SO ridiculous that I had to look into a bit more to see if they were clickbaiting, unfortunately that wasn't the case.

Or, potentially might not be the case. Again, if anyone has some kind of evidence, any kind, showing that the claims are being fabricated in some attempt to dirty Musk's name or bleed Telsa dry of money, please provide it. Otherwise I find it very difficult to believe the State of California would see such a reoccurring issue so as to pursue litigation against the company themselves. The sheer amount of repercussions they could face if found out they were fabricating evidence would be catastrophic, so at the very least they must feel what evidence they have is good enough/believable enough to pursue litigation in good faith.

You're right that the factory workers (apparently these weren't just some other regular employees but included shift managers as well) guilty of doing this stuff should be held accountable (and IMO, the affected parties should be compensated for what was basically repeated abuse), and if some of the accounts are true, the HR departments at the affected factories should also be investigated for not only dismissing claims but also firing claimants rather than working with them to resolve the issues internally.

However, considering some of the claims that Musk was reached out to directly by a few of the affected parties and did nothing, combined with admittedly some of my own personal views on him from over the years...well it might be a reach to call him a "depraved narcissistic idiot" but he definitely seems to have some narcissistic tendencies and for me narcissists tend to be emotional idiots 🤷‍♂️ . But all of that said, I think we can both agree the best thing is to just let the case play out and whichever side turns out to have proof supporting them (or more of it) prevail.

Here’s the crux of your issues.
If that’s the worst someone can dig up on him then he’s doing pretty good compared to a lot of others out there.

My issues with him go deeper than himself (although part of them include aspects of his character), going into usage of his character/persona to enable questionable ideals in people and their part in the growing technocratic bastardization of society. If it makes you feel any better, I have similar views towards people like Bill Gates & Mark Zuckerburg.

And Musk isn't much better (if any) than the likes of those considering the bigger picture of things. But I'm not going to get into that here.
