Emily Rogers: Why you should be excited about NX’s software output

Only Tropical Freeze apply here. The rest is in the second category despite nice art.
There are no second category HAL games. Neither are there such by EAD Tokyo.

More seriously: have you 100% KRC or CT? Some of the objectives in there are excruciating.

Nintendo needs to cater to families. And by that i don't mean by promoting Mario Party 27, but by targeting every family member individually as well. This is where their chance lies. I've been saying this since the Wii hype died down, and it could have boosted the WiiU, but they failed to do so.
There was a commercial where two kids pleaded with their parents to buy them a wiiu. This targeting families stuff is nonsense. It doesn't matter who you target if your tech is not desirable aesthetically or powerful.
Look at the psp. It didn't have a lot of must have games and it was up against a dominant and entrenched force in the handheld business, but it sold 80 million units. That's more than all the consoles this gen, maybe ps4 will barely make that number. The psp just had that it factor that made people want it, and nintendo should not ignore the power a sleek looking piece of tech has on the mind of a consumer.

Seems like discussion has died down. I think we're only 4 days from Nintendos Investors Meeting? I can't believe I have hype for an Investors Meeting all because I want to hear any type of NX info lol

Doubt they give more than the reveal date. Maybe launch date too.

Can't wait to see what Nintendo comes up with the new generation of games. I still think they have the best exclusives. I'm really really hoping the new console will do well.

As to GCN, I suppose eventually Nintendo would probably like to have all of its past first party software on VC, at least those that don't have rights issues. However, GCN was never more than rumored for Wii U and the reliance on analog means if NX doesn't have analog triggers in its controller(s) GCN may continue to not be worth the resources. I think there are some games that would do excellently on the service, like Melee, but I'm not convinced they'll jump on this as a priority.

Almost every VC game works with the Wii U's controller, but back on the Wii, your Wiimote wasn't going to let you play much besides NES games. So there's precedent of Virtual Console platforms relying on additional hardware that's not included in the system. Even the Wii U has this with the downloadable Wii games and stuff like Duck Hunt. The NX's controller lacking analog triggers is no real impediment for the Gamecube VC, which I'm betting, will indeed come to the console.

There's a chance they might name it..if it's an odd name like Wii.

If there was a potentially controversial aspect (like being digital only/using cards or carts/having subscription based online play) I could see that being revealed early so any bad feeling/moaning has diminished prior to E3.

Did Emily Rogers ever publish the second article she was talking about earlier? I vaguely recall something being said to that effect.

As for the investors meetings, I doubt we'll see much but we're going to get some blowout announcements pretty soon if this is really launching Q4.

Huh? PS4 isn't selling quite as much as PS2, but it's selling extremely well regardless. And as far as I know, PS4 is selling a lot more than PS3 did at least within its first years.

Not saying the PS4 is selling "bad" by any metric, but comparing it to PS3 sales isn't really helping your cause, since the PS3 sold like crap the first few years.

I think we're getting:
- Launch Window (Winter 2016)
- Brief Overview (Gimmick, software info)
- Reveal Date (E3)

I don't think we're getting:
- The Name
- The Specs
- Info on the Portable

I doubt we will ever get the specs for a Nintendo platform again, ever. I don't think they have given specs out for a single piece of hardware since the gcn

I wouldn't expect anything at all from the investors meeting. Outside of vague statements on company direction with the device, we'll be waiting for a direct or E3 for any meaningful info.

I'm thinking we'll get overall specs at E3, especially if they are worth bragging about (GPU name, amount of RAM, something). Nothing super specific or technical.

I don't think anything Nintendo did or didn't do at Wii U reveal should be taken as a given this time.

I think we will find out whether it is coming out this year or not, which I think is meaningful.

Its not just the Wii U, but they never really released any specific technical info for the wii, ds, wii u, or 3ds. That's 4 hardware releases in a row with no specific specs. I doubt they will do it this time either, unless its WAY above and beyond what the ps4.kneo or whatever people are calling it is.

They didn't give specs on Wii because the console was ment as a game changer targeted towards non-gamer mass market. They wanted to break away from the mold in every way they could, from controller design to PR. I think with the Wii U reveal they simply followed the Wii model.

I'm just saying there's no guarantee this time they'll take the same Wii attitude with this reveal.

I wouldn't be surprised if they revealed the specs or didn't... although they gain little from revealing that info.

If the PS4Neo and the Xbox1.5 didn't exist, I'd be willing to be Nintendo would be more likely to reveal the NX. But as it stands, they probably aren't going to be revealing the strongest hardware this E3 so what's the point, I guess.

Expect the name of the system, either at this meeting or shortly after. It wont be left for E3.

I agree.
I'd even dare to say we're getting more than that.
Not saying we're getting a full reveal but they simply can't talk about their future plans, profits and strategies to their investors for this fiscal year without at least explaining them where all of this will come from (their new devices)

I can't believe some people still think we won't get NX info until E3. We're definitely getting something. I hope a Direct or reveal in front of a crowd in May. Even Oregen said we were.

They'll give a reveal timeframe and a launch year.

Also, our departed friend says that the "NX NDA" (lol wtf) ends on Sunday, so everything is on the line for him now. And he seems so salty on Twitter too.

Well unless a direct is coming before the investor meeting, that sounds like a crock.

Can you provide a link to his Twitter account? It was posted in another thread, but I can't remember which and I'm having a difficult time tracking it down through Google search. Much appreciated!

Like to believe it, but it would be their first time.

So i really doubt it would be different this time, but you never knows with BigN.

I was wondering, what if we get a new xbox one and a ps4 and NX. Couldn't we say that we have started a new nextgen? With some kind of backwards compatible?

Does this maybe means there sill be a new race of console war? Or will the mainstream know that the consoles aren't new next gen systems?

I know .it's kinda sad how thirsty we are for news. Nintendo is keeping its cards SO CLOSE to the chest.

It's annoying from a fans perspective but from a business perspective it makes sense to keep everything behind closed doors for as long as possible. That's why I don't think much of anything will be shown till E3

Which would be a terrible decision since it would...
  1. Overstuff their E3 presentation, whatever form it takes.
  2. Not give enough time to market the device(s).
  3. Leave Nintendo open to being overshadowed by the competition.

The first two points are 100% on point. Nintendo has to unveil NX before E3.

As for being overshadowed by the competition...I don't think there is really a chance of that happening but of course that's my opinion so I'm not saying you are wrong :P

Turns out that I was wrong anyway. He says that one is from a Reddit "leaker," which is why I removed it from my post. If he's right, they may reveal the name and logo so thirsd parties can start talking. Here's the irony though: 10k thinks that the leaker might be right, but he said earlier today that NoA has no idea when the reveal date is. And he actually believes this "NoA employee."

So yes, croc.

Here you go: https://twitter.com/tenkay23 He retweets have a ton salt, so you don't need to bring your own!

Speaking of Reddit, this thread give a very good point that's a pretty strong indication that Iwata planned a 2016 launch from the start. An announcement of some sort is definitely imminent, I wager.

Nintendo has been having presentations on sundays and stuff week before E3 for 3 year now tho

There's the PS4K & VR to consider, with the former being from the industry leader right now & the latter being the hotness. Plenty of room for Nintendo to get upstaged at E3.
