Enjoying Sanderson and Rothfuss to an incredible extent - which fantasy series next?

I just finished the first volume of Riyria Revelations. I quite enjoyed it. I think in tone in reminded me more of Wheel of Time anything else, especially the first couple of books. It's definitely not straight forward than some of the others mentioned and the world building isn't a strong suit, but it tells a good story with some twists here and there and a bit of political intrigue.

The wheel of time is a must, it is the greatest fantasy series ever written. Yes, the series hits a very low point in about two to three books but the first 6 books are incredible and the ending when Sanderson takes over is out of this world good. You must read. :)

What I believe Loke13 is saying is, Max and Wayne isn't the second trilogy in the trilogy of trilogies of Mistborn. It's rather a small side project that grew out of proportion and is now a bridge between the first and the second trilogy.

Second trilogy is supposed to be present times and the third trilogy will be futuristic.

Nah. While what you're saying is true.. He was directly referencing the fact that Wax and Wayne will have 4 books rather than 3.

ASOIAF is great, obviously. But I'd also highly recommend the First Law trilogy. The Black Company is really good too and smaller in scale; almost like platoon based war fantasy.

I highly recommend Gene Wolfe's Book Of The New Sun too. One of the best written series you'll read this year.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
I'm impatiently waiting for Stormlight Archive 3. I'm so ridiculously hyped for that book, the entire last third of WoR was so epic and Book 3 is gonna focus on my favorite character of the series, the guy in my avatar, the Black-motherfucking-thorn. I haven't been this hyped for a new book in such a long time.

I came across this list some time ago (the Cosmere is apparently the name for his universe).

Posted it earlier, but there is a Cosmere OT on GAF.

Can you elaborate more on your thoughts of the Powdered Mage trilogy? Also, how bad is the slowdown in Wheel of Time in the middle, in your opinion? I'm hoping to get to it soon but still need to finish a couple of books first.

Powder Mage is fantastic. Good character development and world building. Think 1700s where magic is strong, but limited in who can use it.

Powder Mage combines both military fantasy (like Black Company) with more traditional hero fantasy.

That's good to know. Like I said, I read the first one. I should jump back in and read the other two.

I strongly recommend the second book in Abercrombie's Shattered Sea Trilogy, Half the World. It was my favorite book of the series and focused on the best character, Thorn.

All right, almost done with The Wise Man's Fear. I should finish it in the next 2 days I think. So far my preferred choice for the next fantasy series to read is the Farseer Trilogy. Thank you guys so much for your help!

I'm a little sad that Kingkiller 2 loses quite a bit of steam in the last third. I really enjoyed the first 600 pages so much. I hope it makes up for the slow parts
in the Fae and in Ademre
with a good ending. And since I'm almost done, I can definitely conclude that this book has literally no progression
on the Chandrian or Amyr arc at all
which I found really puzzling. I did enjoy all the new conflicts but Rothfuss kinda...forgot to advance the story in a meaningful way, didn't he? The only things that contribute a bit to that are
a) Auri apparently knowing of the Amyr, b) the bandit leader being Cinder and c) Cthaeh giving slight hints as to where the Amyr are (the Maer is supposed to be close to them) and where to find people who know of the Chandrian (Ademre). So unless the last 150 pages make a huge difference, this book has unprecedentedly little progress. I have honestly never read a 1000 page book that did not contribute to the story in a meaningful way.

Overall, I still liked the book a lot and it was as quick a read as any Sanderson book.

imho you are right. I mean it is nicely written and I've read the rothfuss books like 5-6 times each..but in the second book sometimes he seems to write pages "just because". Which can be nice.
Will you read "the slow regard of silent things"? I love it. But honestly, I love everything Auri.

I didn't care much about her to be honest. Should I read it if I want to understand everything or is it just fan service with little plot relevance?

I have to say that I love Kvothe as a protagonist. He's exactly what I'm into - I just appreciate slight arrogance in characters.

If you like Kvothe, definitely check out the Dresden files. Though I think Dresden is less offensive than Kvothe.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is worth reading if you love Rothfuss' writing style and Auri's character, and you want to know what's going on in her head.
