Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/118600145

Had a fun challenge mode fight against cannonbalrog. Adrenaline rush (game speed keeps increasing), weapon queue (game continually cycles through your available guns), and gull's revenge (missiles from the floor one boss continually fire.)

Huh, for a moment I thought the reason you were continually swapping guns was because it was better to keep shooting with something than have to wait and reload.

This is part of the Supply Drop update right?

I only ever swap weapons like that very early on (usually with Hunter) or occasionally on the Dragun to try and save a heart cycle. Otherwise you couldn't pay me to use lowercase r (I'd call it the Klobbe of Enter the Gungeon but that exists and is also terrible.)

Also yes, challenge mode is part of the supply drop, unlocks when you save a new NPC. 6 credits per run.

I booted this up last night to try out the new Supply Drop update. I immediately started up what I think is Beast Mode, I had put the game down after killing all the 4 main characters' pasts and just now discovered you could pray at the gunslinger statue.

Does Beast Mode yield more keys or is that just a part of the update? I know I accumulated more shells than usual but that must be due to more challenging enemies. Some might disagree, but I really hope they're not nerfing this game. I really enjoy the challenge.

I am very glad I bought this game.

I was not expecting a Metal Gear Solid reference. This game won me over instantly due to that.
Yo, there are probably more Metal Gear references in this game than any other references. Gatlin Gull and several items and guns. I love it.

Was in the middle of maybe my best Challenge Mode run yet: 7 full heart containers, two armor, getting ready to fight the 4th floor boss.

Then the game throws High Priest at me with Adrenaline Rush, Gorgun's Gaze, and I believe Unfriendly Fire.

I was dead before I knew it.

Has been in the game since the original release and doesn't actually do anything, yet another joke/reference.

Gorgun's Gaze has quickly become my least favorite modifier vs bosses, just throws the whole rhythm of the fights off completely. Blobulon Rancher/Unfriendly fire in general are a pain as well, the little guys always seem to spawn in the worst spots for me and if you don't pay attention unfriendly fire can be very bad (especially with High Tension).

Edit: @Incendiary, doesn't look like update is out on PSN yet, hopefully tomorrow (PC dropped on a Thursday.)

Most of the people I watch on Twitch seem to be using KB/M and doing way better than I could with a controller.

I generally prefer controller - there might be a bit of an aim penalty (especially if you let aim assist 'try' to do the work for you), but I feel like some actions are a good bit faster - especially swapping aim across your character.

Speaking of aiming, I wish they'd make it to where aiming down and sweeping left/right doesn't have that sudden jump in where you're aiming. It creates a dead zone below you, and also somewhat alters bullet trajectory on small targets a long distance below you. If they fix that perhaps they can also fix Gatling Gull snapping his aim forward every time his sprite changes to a different aiming frame.

I def think that red scarf thing is designed for kb/m play, and stuff like choosing teleporters is slow and janky on controller.

I'd like to think I'm alright at the game. Getting to chamber 5 is pretty much guaranteed, and I can usually beat its boss as well. Past that is where it gets tricky.

God bless this heroic piece of junk:

Took a bullet for me during the final phase of a challenge mode Dragun fight. His sacrifice would not be in vain:

I suck so much at this game

The first floor of the dungeon I can usually finish without any real problems, but have only managed to get past floor 2 once lol

Are there any tell tale signs of how to find the entrances to secret rooms? I know you need to use a gun with limited ammo to find the cracks, but obviously if you go around shooting every bit of wall you'll be out of ammo pretty quickly!

From what I can tell they're either in the chest rooms or the elevator room most of the time, although I think there are exceptions.

The crappyness of that item with a controller and how it is God tier with KB + M alone makes me want to ditch my 100h experience with a controller.

??

This is how I feel every run in Gungeon lol. It's combination of:

- every boss has a good amount of health + the bullet hell aspect.
- not finding keys to open chests to get guns.
- not getting good guns/items when I can open chests.
- not getting ammo drops for any good guns I do find.

Isaac and Gungeon have the middle two in common. And add to the differences the marked disparity in health drops/ups.

Since the drop I seem to rarely get any weapons from chests and bosses. And when I do they are usually garbage tier guns. Prior to, I would seem to get multiple high quality guns each floor. Maybe it's just a bad streak. but it's really making me not want to touch it. And I love this game.

That image is really helpful thanks!

I thought shooting inside the shop would piss off the shopkeeper right? So presumably you have to weigh up the risk of whether to check for a secret room entrance vs him getting mad?

Using blanks open up secret rooms too. I duuno if using them in the shop annoys the keeper just like shooting does, but if they don't you could use them to test out the room instead.

Just a couple things that might be worth mentioning:

  • On each floor, one of the two locked chests will always contain a gun, while the other will always contain an item (either passive or active).
  • Bosses are guaranteed to drop guns if you haven't picked up a gun already on that floor.
Also, re: keys, if you want to guarantee that the shop always has at least one key for sale, make sure to avoid picking up any keys that may drop after clearing a room. The keys won't get stolen by the rat, so you can come back for them later.

Also worth pointing out that bosses killed without getting hit will yield an item that gives a filled extra heart container (in addition to the corresponding Chamber item). I'm assuming most know this, but just in case.

Wow, doesn't that mean it's better to wait opening chests until after the boss is down?

I didn't know that's very useful!

I don't think I'm supposed to be good at bullet hell games. I can't get past third floors. 24 hours in.
Gungeon's a game where you progress by just getting better at playing the game. Like, I used to think "holy shit, this second floor is ridiculous", but now it's just "oh, this is fine".

24 hours to reach the 3rd floor reliably is pretty good, actually!

Hrrrm, what the the hell can it be then? Just deleted the game and am redownloading it. Hopefully that fixes it, if not I'm out of ideas.

Fixed my issue.

Do not launch Enter The Gungeon with a Guiter Hero turned on or you have to restart your PS4. The Devs are now aware. Haha

Got through to level 3 for the first time, and managed to carry on going through to level 4 on the first go!

I think a lot of that was down to getting a powerup that made the default pistol shoot ice bullets, and then later one that lets you move faster, but its still really satisfying to see yourself get better.

Enter the Gungeon is very tough.

I think it took me 40-50 hours before I finally beat the game.

My preferred character is the Pilot for shop discounts + lockpicking in case you run out of keys.

Good grief...either there was some kind of bug when patching or I've played way more gungeon then I realized. I have 367 credits on my PS4 file.

The supply drop helped fill out the content quite a bit, really like what they did with the junk item. The new enemies are interesting as well, except for the little mineflayers, something is really off with their animation stuff.

I hope that they're still working on the paid DLC they talked about a while back. There's a lot of potential for further synergies and options, especially with alternate paths and more ways to balance risk-reward (ala BoI blood donation machines, devil deals, etc).

Finally got a chance to check out the update (PS4 player) and the best "rogue-like" on PS4 just got better. I haven't gotten a chance to see all the new content obviously but what I've seen so far has been great. I love the D-Pad gun. New enemies have been cool so far. The extra boss on the third floor and the ability to save and quit mid-run addressed my two biggest complaints with the original release.

So is there always a secret room on each floor? How do you break through walls?

what about those large rooms that are just empty with a mine cart going in a circle?

Yeah, and you open them with a blank.

That's only on the third floor, and it's a puzzle where you use the dodge roll to jump from one cart to another. On the other end is (spoilers)
a component of the gun that kills the past
.

Awesome, thank you!

Any other tips like that I'm missing? The Wikis don't seem to show much.

I finally managed to unlock the achievement "Lead God" (take no damage against all the five bosses). I was lucky to get the easiest bosses, a bunch of buff items (the broccoli and the money thing) and the Yari Launcher (the best weapon in the game against bosses?).
