Epic Games Publishing title - from creator of ICO/Shadow of the Colossus/The Last Guardian Fumito Ueda | Game Awards 2024

I am already getting vibes, and if they Iron Giant us with this game I'm gonna fucking bawl.

So here for it though, sci-fi at scale and with Ueda's style? Ugh, so good. Only thing I don't love is Epic's involvement.

The dormant mech is giving me Hyper Light drifter vibes.
Won't happen, but imagine Disasterpeace scoring this!
Looking promising.

A new game by genDESIGN, created by Fumito Ueda made my night! I absolutely loved The Last Guardian and Shadow of the Colossus! PlayStation is finally catering for me again.

This must be what it feels like to have a vagina full of Mentos and Coca-Cola.

Them talking English and not backwards Japanese felt wrong.

Otherwise, why isn’t a port of ICO available on PS5? I’d even take a badly emulated port.

You people get hyped easy

Remember from the creator of megaman inafune and also the creator of shenmue suzuki

Yeap those games certainly lived up to their names dont they

Turds.

NEed to wait for more info

You either like ICO's output and you don't.

For those of us that enjoy ICO (now split between 2 studios, one of which is GENdesign), we know what to expect and will likely love it.

The Last Guardian is my favorite PS4 title for so many reasons. This, I cannot wait for.

----------------------------------------------

Truly pumped. I will always dig the vibes they put out, how they create emotion without dialogue so effectively, how to convey story and feelings the way they do.

I will be in day 1 unless something absurd happens with this game. And I truly can't wait!

Towards the end of 2019 I kind of checked out of videogames - I mean, I did play Elden Ring and some Tears of the Kingdom, but that was it. The whole hobby seemed to go in a direction that would just make me sad if I continued with it.

I came back a few months ago and it's been real fun. There's still a lot of brain rot I need to avoid, but mostly it's been real fun. I mean, I beat 20 games since August, so I'm very proud of that. I cried playing Cave Story, there was that.

Didn't really feel like a complete return until I saw this screen tonight.
Such a simple screen, and yet it represents so much of what I love from this hobby.

I am back :messenger_sunglasses:

A talent wasted by Sony studio. Sigh. I miss his PS exclusives.
Oh my god that was epic.

Fucking shame on Sony for losing this talent
Credit where its due. Sony (old Sony) knew The Last Guardian wouldn't be profitable, but still they held out for something like a decade out of good will waiting for the team to finish before they closed the studio down. I remember lots of articles and rumors saying the game was cancelled and Sony had to keep coming out and reassuring people it was still being worked on. It's worth appreciating that they did that.

It seems like the mythology and cyclic nature of the previous games are now being presented in a setting far in the future... much like the games eventual release date.

Edit:
The robot looks similar to the last Colossus.. I also read previously that Ueda was seeking to create a game closer to his original vision for SotC in a new game.. potential sequel?

Not a fan of the new sci fi aesthtic. Much preferred the otherworldly lost realm medditerrainian look of his previous work.

So it's basically the ICOverse in the future? With colossi turned into mechas and ICO shadow creatures running wild

Or maybe it's the distant past

Still can't believe Sony let him slip away. One of the biggest issues I have with Shuhei Yoshida who was in charge of Japan Studios at the time

But they done this before, going for sci-fi setting so much more exciting and I want to see what they do with it.

Similar how Vanillaware usually does fantasy setting but went full sci-fi with 13 Sentinels and that was AWSOME!

This trailer showed nothing. Looking forward to 2032.

this is never coming out in this generation is it?
I jokingly told my wife that it takes about a decade for their gsmes to release, from the first trailer reveal. She laughed and said "So how do you feel about being able to play it when your fifty?!" I chuckled....then had a sincere introspective moment of reality.....
Ueda > Kojimbo
Im not saying hes trash, but Kojima is so fucking overrated.

Got a bit emotional when I saw that card with "From the creator of ICO". Probably the best game reveal impact wise for me at this TGA.
I almost screamed, I have been waiting new game from Ueda from long god damn time and they give us sci-if setting which is even more fucking exciting.

I just hope it doesn’t take forever….I LOVED Last Guardian but god damn that took forever.

Vaporware. This shit was announced years ago and this all we get is a tech demo... this one is years away fam, if it even pans out.

A talent wasted by Sony studio. Sigh. I miss his PS exclusives.

Crazy the double standard.

Naughty Dog released a massive AAA game in 2020 after having released another massive AAA game in 2016 (same year that TLG released) and all you hear is how Naughty Dog should have released a game by now, yet somehow Ueda gets a pass for taking more than 8 years to make another game and even more incredulously, it's somehow Sony's fault...

Sony plucked Asobi out of Japan Studio and created the only major hit Japan Studio has ever made... So sounds like to me, they've managed the talent appropriately.

Don't forget people, no matter if you like Ueda's works his impact in the gaming industry is undeniable. Minds like Miyazaki and many others only sought for a place in the industry due to people like Ueda.

His games may not be the most interactable and conventional to the average gamer's needs, but his team's talent and legacy are undeniable. A game by this man is the equivalent of a Studio Ghibli's movie that moves the hearts of many while transmitting strong messages and experiences.

No matter what some people may say about his games beyond Shadow of the Colossus, all his games are masterclasses in artistry that defines the uniqueness only achievable through games as a medium. Ueda's name deserves to share the same hall of Gaming Legends as people like Miyazaki (Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring), Miyamoto (Mario, Star Fox, Zelda), Kojima (Metal Gear, Death Stranding) , Amy Hennig (Legacy of Kain, Uncharted), etc.

I hope they don't send it to die as an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC.

Aside from that, cool stuff. Looking forward to know more about the game.

Love all of Fumito's games, but that ultra futuristic robot, is sooo out of place.
People said same thing with 13 Sentinels because Vanillaware usually makes fantasy but guess what it turned out great.

Do guys want devs only do one type of setting and nothing else?

Best announcement fron the show IMO.
There were several things I expected to see at the show, but a new Fumito Ueda game certainly wasn't one.

I wish the trailer showed a bit more though, specially after Geoff described it as gameplay. But I can't wait to learn more.

If anything could get me to shop on the Epic Games Store, it's Ueda.
I recently purged my PC of the Epic store and all its tendrils (it's a tenacious little bastard). Hoping this come out on console, so I won't have to reinfect some future PC to play it.

Ueda is the type of guy who takes 5 years just to announce his game and then takes 5 years to release it and then complains he hasn't had the time to fully make what he wanted.
