Epic Games Publishing title - from creator of ICO/Shadow of the Colossus/The Last Guardian Fumito Ueda | Game Awards 2024

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Looks like the check bounced.

There's no way Epic was going to publish a single console exclusive.

The only question is if this makes its 2026 date or does it bounce around the decade like Last Guardian.

We finally got the full concept art they showed off years ago

amazing. So a futuristic giant mech colossus partnership, what a direction to build upon their previous work. I can't wait, but I'll have to, at the pace Ueda does things this game is due out for PS7

Sheeeesh , Geoff really coming through tonight. Anything made by Ueda is a automatic buy. Crazy that Sony cut his funding (and Sony Japan entirely) and redirected that money to trash like Concord and Fairgame. I just hope this isn't a perma exclusive on EGS but honestly dgaf I will play this on any platform.
Thats wildly reductive…I swear morons forget that TLG was meant to come out on the PS3, it was in dev for nearly a decade then made zero to little profit. Somy did not cut Team ICOs funding, they were more patient than any other publisher and still largely are. Ueda left to escape the pressure of making something large scale…Hell this is the SECOND game hes shown since leaving, the first never released.
Amazing Director, amazing knack for making emotionally stimulating games, but lets not misrepresent him either, guy clearly has issues with managing a studio.

Solid argument but Lord Sony will never see it.

I'd honestly 100% prefer a mismanaged Sony Japan over Firewalk, Haven, or even Bungie at this point because as a person that plays video games I could care less how many zeros Daddy Sony has on their bank account.

The man the myth the legend. I remember way back in my teens playing SotC for the first time in ‘06 and being left in complete awe. This man’s games evoke and capture an emotion I feel in no other games. A true artist, a brilliant director. I’ll be there day one, all plans will cease to exist that day.

I wish Sony bring ICO to PS5 even if it just simple remaster.

I replayed that game before Last Guardian released I was surprised how well that game holds, to this day it’s level design that is amazing.

As someone who had their pet pass away before playing TLG, it broke mess. First time I cried like a little kid playing a game.

You know I fell in love with the first Last Guardian trailer back in... 2006-2007 when it was shown.

Around that time I was 24yo and never had a pet, but the concept of TLG seemed incredible, especially after playing Ico and SotC.

Late 2009 a friend gave me a little present: a 3 months old border collie dog.

2016 and got to play TLG finally... And I remember thinking that I wouldn't have "enjoyed" the game as much if it wasn't for my dog. It was like seeing a reflection of him on the game. After each gaming session, I was playing with my dog or taking him for a walk and I don't know how to explain it but it felt like real life was an extension of the game, or vice versa.

I cried during many moments while playing. (Especially when Trico flies for the first time) the ending too.

My dog passed away two years ago. I'm tearing up right now. 😢
I miss him like crazy.

This was probably my best announcement of the night, despite the fact there was very little to it. I've enjoyed every one of Ueda's games, and found them all to be genuine works of art that convey a huge amount of emotion and character. There are very few game devs that can elicit that kind of response, and create fascinating, original titles that push both the technology and the storytelling.

I share the sentiments. TLG is a game that I love, but I don't think I can play through it again any time soon.

I almost screamed, I have been waiting new game from Ueda from long god damn time and they give us sci-if setting which is even more fucking exciting.

I just hope it doesn’t take forever….I LOVED Last Guardian but god damn that took forever.

This game's vibe is exactly the futuristic Zelda game I've always wanted when I was younger. BotW and TotK have elements of it with the guardians and zonai, but nothing has matched Shadow of the Colossus' scale.

Also, just want to say to everyone in this thread, I'm so proud of you all for making this one of the larger TGA announcement threads and keeping it on the front page. It's such a relieving departure from Reddit that whines about SotC's controls at every opportunity. Truly people of culture.

Good news - a new game from Fumito Ueda, hurray
Bad news - the publisher is Epic Games, meaning there will most likely never be a release on Steam + there is a possibility that there will only be a digital version (Alan Wake 2), Epics don't like to shell out for disc versions and it's not interesting for them... hurray...

I hope I'm wrong...

Ueda games are one of the few insta-buys for me so no question I'll be in day 1. Hope this gives them a reason to remaster Ico for modern systems since it'd be nice to replay it without hooking up my PS2/PS3.

The "Epic" part had me concerned, but if it's coming to consoles, even Xbox-only, I'll be satisfied. Unfortunately, this likely means digital-only as with Alan Wake.

It's reductive because people like to complain unnecessarily. Ueda had already "left" before TLG even released. He opened his own studio Gen Design while doing TLG and the developers for that game were gen design. Sony helped set that studio up and fund it much like they helped Kojimbo. They didn't really lose Ueda, the trailer in the OP is on the PlayStation channel and most of Ueda's fans are on PS. They'll still be getting an awesome game but have created an awesome independent studio in the process.

It's gonna be a beautiful game and a poignant masterpiece.

The mech might feel a bit off because of its futuristic nature, but didn't TLG already feature some kind of "alien" technology?

Anyway, I haven't been this interested in a game since the release of GoW 2018.

Exactly this 👍

A talent wasted by Sony studio. Sigh. I miss his PS exclusives.

It's pretty much the opposite.
TLG was released in 2016, it's almost 2025 and this game doesn't even have a name.
They're still getting the game, they're just not funding a 10-12 years development cycle for an auteur game that will end up selling to a niche.

TLG made my PS4 Pro sound like a fucking jet engine. I refuse to play with headphones on so I never finished it. A PC port would be welcome but I'm that is not happening.

One of the best games that I play it.

I had the original on PS2, the remake on PS4 Pro and it's one of the very few Sony ports I would buy again if released on Steam (maybe there mods could also fixed how they botched the protagonist's face in the remake).

Back to this new project: I'm automatically interested in anything Ueda works on, but I can't say this first teaser trailer sold me immediately on the thing.

Ueda games are events. Nothing like them.

The score sounds very "The Last Guardian-y", probably the same composer, which is great, 'cause thats one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

This shit will make me cry, I just know it

Like the artstyle.

Did not even play The Last Guardian because even though I tried many times I have always bounced off both ICO and SotC.

SotC was my fav and I actually got very far into the game 3 times over the years but it just never clicked. Thinking of playing it again is like a chore.

I'm willing to give the new game a chance though, but I've always gotten bored before...I know the problem is me, but it is very consistent.

I think I just like a more traditional story structure and gameplay design, though I absolutely love the aesthetic and boldness behind some of the decisions.
