Not according to Dr. Phil. You can't just turn it around with a few 11/10's… so don't expect us to try.

Yeh but according to him Microsoft already make good games that he loves, it's just that everyone else has shit taste.

I'm trying to go through Mario Wonder, but honestly I play 1 level and feel like turning it off. It's obviously very polished, but I get a bit bored with it so far.

Random gamepass game 237 was great but that new Mario game?

So yeah, I just plan on never agreeing with anyone on these things, which is fine with me. I think almost everyone has terrible taste.

Out of curiosity, why Sega?

I think Sega is a nice fit for them. Complements and supplements them. There is also a lot of history there. Sonic partnering with Mario makes a lot of sense from a transmedia perspective.

I think sega would be a good fit for Sony too though.

I simply don't see how game streaming will ever be profitable. The problem is that video streaming and game streaming are fundamentally different entities. Ten years ago it was already possible for one single Netflix video streaming server to stream tens of thousands movies simultaneously because it only needs lots of network bandwidth and plenty of hard disk/SSD storage to stores all those video files. Network and storage, that's exactly what cloud servers are built for.

But game streaming is fundamentally different. You're not playing a video file off a hard disk, you're playing a video game in real time that's running on a dedicated piece of server hardware in a remote server location. If you want to play a video game on a cloud gaming service by MS or Sony in high quality (4K 60 fps with the same visuals as an Xbox Series X or PS5) that dedicated cloud gaming server can only handle one gaming session at the time, since the game will be running on a custom built Xbox Series X or PS5 housed in a blade server.

If Netflix wants to stream movies to one million logged in susbscribers, they'd only need to install 50 servers. If Sony wants to stream games to one million concurrent PS+ subscribers, they'd need to install one million PS5 blade servers. :messenger_open_mouth:

First, 50 servers aren't maintaining one million users for video. I can guarantee you of that. Netflix has 18,000 servers. They are also not simply storage, there is still some processing power requirements.

Second, Unlike TV/Movies, gamers play less overall time than people watch. The odds that all available blades are utilized at one point is very low.

You look at Steam and its 60 million active daily users and then think about concurrent users... you're probably looking at half of that if not less.

These server blades are far cheaper than consoles, because you're only looking at the guts of the machine without a lot of of unnecessary aspects, disc drive, usb ports, casing, and you can have more robust and holistic cooling.

Expected spiderman 2 to do better. Did not expect Mirage to beat it. I wonder why spiderman is not big in europe. Only a 11% boost from last month despite a massive PS exclusive release.

XBox is done. I dont think it will sell as well as the xbox one barring a miracle. Starfield didnt help. Forza didnt help. gamepass didnt help. new series s didnt help. cod acquisition didnt help. tough luck for microsoft.

"Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Mirage is No.2, beating Spider-Man 2 by a very narrow margin (and Assassin's Creed Mirage was on sale for two weeks longer)."

- beat it by a narrow margin because it had 2 weeks head start.

I wonder what MS's near term plan is

Do they flood GamePass with free CoD and hope that sells consoles?

I don't think they can even add CoD until the Sony marketing is done. CoD 2023 was the last entry in the marketing deal

So they add CoD 2024 for free on GP?

At this point, it has to do with the US image around the world that most people reject MS. And you know what I'm talking about.

No it doesn't it's just that Xbox really doesn't have the appeal that it had during the Xbox 360 days or even the early Xbox One days.

Xbox success is based on PlayStation's mishaps but PlayStation is on Apple Status right now

I laid it out plain before the generation even started

Yes, but Series consoles now have more games and more than 30+ studios bought than at launch and the appeal isn't there, it is actually dwindling. Because it's too US focus management. Which has been a miss all the time this gen with worldwide audience . Xbox 360 had diversity and exclusivity in games how funny does it sound.

Exclusion might be hurting them as well but we have to wait and see what happens.

Sony's plan is to push as much hardware as possible in order to keep their advantage in console marketshare. This is not a bad strategy and its clear that Sony sacrifice profits for it. It allows them to control the market better when face with big money pockets that is MS. MS on the other hand has made a lot of mistakes, taken way to long to get their stuff together and way to long to properly execute their plan. Sony has been humming along great ever since the PS4 and in that Gen they dominated on every front.

Even the beginning of this gen Sony did not miss a beat which allowed them to come out strong in the face of MS having to delay games and of course having Redfall not just fall but tank. Its no wonder Sony isn't even more ahead in Europe where they have always dominated MS but because MS has diversified they have found new paths to those gamers. You do not get into MS situation overnight and you definitely will not get out of it overnight as well. It will take a number of years of excellence at least on the console part to dent Sony dominance. If this is the floor of MS problems in Europe as far as console sales goes, then they probably are in a better position than they should be. But the corner really need to be turned now so we will see how they execute from here on out.
Bro out here thinkin Sony is losing money on console sales. Newsflash, they aren't. It's actually ms that are losing profit.

Not to take his defense, but it depends on your definition of loosing money. For some people unrealised money is the same as loosing money. When Nintendo reminded everyone that they did not own Niantic they lost some of their value in the stock market. For me Sony is making efforts to have their ecosystem valuable for them, their partners and the consumers. And they still make some profit in the process.

Xbox dropping like a rock.
the problem with game pass is that the library, tho large, is finite. you can, in a year plus, pretty much experience all of it that you might be interested in (i know, because i did). at which point, & along with the presence of few, if any, major exclusives, what, exactly, does your xbox offer?...

i've enjoyed my series s, but game pass without a somewhat steady flow of big titles? just doesn't work...

Just a reminder, October is also when the Activision deal was announced to be complete. I was wondering if the deal would backfire, as many probably don't like all of this consolidation of the market. Would be funny if the acquisition of the largest 3rd party publisher actually turned even more people away from Xbox.

Microsoft fail over and over again because they simply don't get it. They think sizes matters: price, power, convenience, but what really matters is how the games make you feel. XBOX is the dude who thinks having six-pack abs and a Ferrari will make him a hit with the ladies; in reality, they're going home with the less toned guy, with a beat-up Ford who can make her laugh, feel special and doesn't constantly brag about himself.
Agree 100% on the 6 pak abbs .. but the Ferrari ? My man ... Just park that shinning red magnet in the right spot, open the door and you dont even have to say a f..ing word ... I really can vouch for this. 😅

And back on topic... good.. fuck MS practices and Gamepass... sooner they burn the better for the industry ....

I can't tell if this post is serious or a joke

Real wars are going on in the world and he wants the president to focus on the console wars…?

With the diehard Xbox fans on Twitter you never know…
It's a meme. I think it's mocking the tweets sent to Biden when the FTC were looking to break up the ABK merger. These type of tweets are real unfortunately

That was 3 generations ago lol. It's completely different nowadays. You'd be paying ridiculous yearly subscriptions. Half assed hardware. 100 dollar games. Remakes every other year. Same for if anyone had 100 percent market share. They would all do it. MS too.

You need competition and decent healthy competition.

Can you tell us what was it that Xbox did that was copied by PlayStation and it was better for all of us?

I'm struggling here. Was it the paid online?

Are you really saying that someone would buy a Series X only for a mediocre and milked AF Halo 5?
What made me buy a PS5 as close to day one as possible was the Demon's Souls remake. If even 1 person is happy with Halo 5 BC good for them. the best gif in this situation is this one:

Are you really trying to compare Demon's Souls, a remake of one of the most defining and innovative videogame of the last 15 years with Halo 5, one of the most boring if not average Halo ever realeased?

Really, no one gives a flying fuck about having the possibility of playing Halo 5 in backwards compatibility.

AC Mirage released on 4 consoles (PS4, PS5, XBO, XBS) and PC. And yeah, we do love our Assassin's Creed games over here in mainland Europe.

Not really. Just that some people would say the same about it, but I don't mind. If someone is in love with Halo 5, good for them. As dumb as it may be for you, if it works, it works. I admit that there should be better games, but tastes are infinite.

man switch is played out. time for a refresh, but that's obvious lol 😆

PS5 is killing it, no comment

Xbox, does it need a price cut? imagine everything else was the same but the X/S sold for $50 less. would that be doable? maybe with a hardware refresh? but maybe that would just be throwing money down the well...

the thing is, Microsoft as a whole is a very profitable successful company, it's just the Xbox division that's not... :messenger_sad_relieved:

At least he's getting toasted in the replies for his antics.

Phil needs to come and collect his boys, they are out here on the streets making his job even harder for him.

It's been like that for quite some time here, be it at the Fnac(like in this video) or at micromania.
It's this all over Europe for years now. It doesn't help that Xbox localization efforts compared to PlayStation have a lot of be desired. All first party titles are dubbed or subtitled into European Portuguese for Portugal, for instance, instead of Brazilian Portuguese.

Country focus actually pays off.

A price cut for Xbox? You can get a Series S + 3 months of Gamepass for 200€ right now...it can't go down even further i think.

People buy PS/Xbox just for CoD or "FIFA" that are not even exclusives. I am sure there are more exclusive BC games that are too badly emulated or not emulated yet that can be played on Xbox Series.

Your taste is not universal. I could not care less for both Halo 5 and DS Remake.

I'm not surprised that European retailers are taking Xbox consoles and games off the shelves. Not only do Xbox consoles sell poorly compared to Switch and PS5, but Xbox owners are far less likely to buy physical games because of gamepass. This is a trend that will accelerate the demise of the Xbox brand in Europe. When European gamers see less and less Xbox games in local stores, they see it as a sign that Xbox is dying and that it's better to buy a PS5 or Switch.

The only way to revert this trend is when Xbox owners suddenly start buying more physical games so retail chains have an incentive to stock Xbox games. But that's obviously never going to happen. Xbox as a retail brand is dead in Europe.

Nice Starfield effect Phil.

This game was an utter failure and did not move the needle at all

In terms of economic payback it must be really ugly numbers
How is it Phil's fault? Todd Howard was the lead on it. He dropped the ball, but he doesn't even seem to realize it. I.e. he thinks it was successful and will probably make the same awful choices when designing TES6.

While I am sure this has an impact, I am not sure that it is as huge as you are suggesting. Who really goes to stores to buy games these days?

This is very easy to explain without all the convoluted mental gymnastics. Literally business 101.

Are we ready?

The more consoles you sell, the more potential for software sales and MTX spend.

The more consoles you sell, the more potential for subscription service spend.

It really is that simple. No matter the bullshittery 101 from those failing to do so, send into the fantard ether.

Yes, engagement is also an important metric for potential MTX/DLC spend, not the sole metric. Engagement growth still heavily relies on more console and software sales, since they go hand-in-hand with the potential to have a larger pool to get engaged.

The point is that any European gamer or parent who's on the fence about buying a games console and visits retail store to check out both the Xbox and PS will immediately notice a huge difference in popularity between both consoles. When half of an aisle is filled with nothing but PS consoles, accessories and games and the Xbox section consists of just a few meager shelves, nobody is going to buy Xbox anymore because it's perfectly clear that brand is in trouble.

And there are plenty of people who visit stores to check out the games section even if they rarely buy a physical game because it's cheaper to buy online. I used to be one of them.
