By the way, the music you can hear on this clip is a re-arrangement of 'Light Of Babel' from Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water soundtrack. Same thing that happened with Evangelion: 2.0 and His and Her Circumstances tracks.

Not knowing a too much about how these movies fall together, I'd ask: are they all based off of the original 26 [?] episodes? I like Evangelion, even if there is too much whining -it is an epic anime. I browsed the wiki but couldn't really tell if there are new storylines, continuations of the "original" (being US and not anime/manga savvy the 26 episodes are what I saw first) story. Death and Rebirth was like a remix and I don't remeber if I saw 2.0

So, are 3.0 and 4.0 elaborations and retellings, or something new entirely? I assume there is much more lore than what I have been exposed to. I will check this out when it hits the US either way.

I think you'd remember of you saw the second movie, it diverts from anime a great deal, and in a good way (the ending specifically is some epic and glorious stuff). And I love the anime series, I was just disappointed with the second half of EoE

The various Eva projects are a bit complicated, but the short version is that the "Rebuild of Eva" movies -- 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and upcoming fourth film -- are either a "reimagining" of the original TV series with many different plot threads and characters, a "sequel" to the decidedly apocalyptic End of Evangelion film, or both. They tend to be lighter in tone, and as a consequence of both that and their reduced running time vs. a television series, most of the arcs and stories related to the adult characters have been excised in favor of playing up a Rei/Shinji/Asuka love triangle.

Some people like this. Those people are Communists.

Pretty much this. This is how I understand it to be.

LOL.

I will never understand people who complain about that. Evangelion is over, we had an ending around 15 years ago.

Why asking for more of the same? These movies took a different direction, and it's a good thing in itself. Why wasting time on character development we already know everything about?

Instead it focuses on new themes, and different characters. As long as it differs from the first series, I'm happy with that. I don't want them to waste time on things we already know.

Now Shinji, Asuka and Rei are very different characters, and I can hardly wait to see how their relationships and behavior will evolve in the next two movies.

Exactly! That is why I said comparisons with the past are pointless, lets just see what this brings around and forget about the rest.

I'll make a point to view 2.0 in the near future.

Excellent point, and it is how I really approached this entire remake.

I can respect changes made in remakes, but I retain the right to criticize the results when they remove the strongest of the original work's elements without adequately satisfying replacements.

Eva's already a massively cynical media franchise with tons of "alternate telling" spinoffs: The Iron Maiden, Shinji Ikari Raising Project, Neon Genesis Evangelion 2, Sadamoto's manga adaptation, another romantically-inclined spinoff manga that downplays the robots, that one where instead of giant robots they all have psychic powers and magic weapons, GAINAX's strip mahjong game, etc. Why, half the fun of being an Eva fan is complaining about the quality and nature of its spinoffs and mocking 85% of them relentlessly. It's tradition, baby!

I can't see it, I'm going off the text above.

Edit: Oh you added a picture.
Yeah, all the titles until now had the colon symbol, but now it can be part of the 'reprise' bars-lines as well, or are those final bar-lines after all? Difficult to know right now...

Some people were spot-on! That unknown girl of the brown hair present on the latest trailer is
a grown-up Sakura Suzuhara, the sister of Tōji!

I'm more excited to see what people are right and wrong about more than even seeing the movie at this point. The speculation is amazing.

So I guess its true that Q(3.0) is set 14 years after Ha(2.0) WTF

Wat. Well I guess the opening makes some sense now.

At least the speculation is good to pass the time :). Gotta say all of this is really interesting.
