EVO 2012-Record Attendance as Competitors Duel for $100k (Spread Across 7 Games)

I guess you dislike that idea of smaller combos.

But MvC3 whole game design is based around weaker/smaller combos and reliant on resets. MvC3 is a game where if the person has the resources and chooses to use them can kill off a character in one hitconfirm.

If you want a game that is more reliant on resets, and smaller combos there is P4A (hype), and BB. Even KOF has TOD combos if you choose to expend the resources.

Erik will always be the king of Marvel.

He deserves to be after fucking this.

Such a boss.

"Interesting" is a charitable word.

I'm pretty mad that ATL FRB has basically just been canceled due to lack of attendance. Masta CJ makes an 8 hour trip and you're telling me not even a dozen GA folk will show up for the chance to be the American Kusoru in *any* game of their choosing? Fucking lame, man.

Don't get me started. Larry asked me to help with those and some health problems cropped up so I wasn't able to. Turns out there wasn't much to do anyways.

I'm pretty disappointed with the scene overall lately. I hope next year's Final Round will turn that around.

ATL scene, and the south in general just isn't the same any more. That's why these stream monsters are "interesting" because they seem to like the games. Just not daylight I guess.

Now, I realize not everybody is like that, but the scene would be VERY different if some of these folks came out. And I get that money is an issue for a lot of folks, but still. If you love this genre, especially if you love street fighter, there's no excuse not to go to a major at least once. AT SOME POINT.

So right now the only character who the TAC Infinite is really worth using is Trish, right?

We won't see too much of it at EVO, will we? Please? :(

"I really don't understand why either. It heavily penalizes turtle play and is extremely dynamic with ring-outs being an accepted part of game strategy/tactics."

It's not made by Capcom.

Fixed.

I really don't understand why either. It heavily penalizes turtle play and is extremely dynamic with ring-outs being an accepted part of game strategy/tactics.

Because what I have seen is really boring and I have nowhere near enough time to devote to it to pick up on the subtle things that may make it more interesting.

Too many games dilutes players *and* spectators

IMO none of these infinites showcased thus far are that practical. Trish's infinite is very character specific which limits its usability.

Unless the Japanese players find ways to make it more viable/practical, I don't expect it to impact EVO much. It's not even worth it going for the infinite which will build the opponent 4-5 bars when it's a bigger risk than going for a standard TOD that uses some meter especially when said infinites come off of TACs.

It's not made by Capcom.

Precisely, for all the hate that SFxT gets. It would have been the 3rd biggest game at EVO if not for T-shirts. A lot of Marvel and SF4 heads will play it just because it's familiar enough to them.

But SCV is also a 3D game, and these FGC tourney's are dominated by players who prefer 2D fighters. 3D fighters will probably never get close to the likes of Capcom fighters in America. TTT2 will probably do better than T6 and SCV, but not much better.

Oh snap:

http://shoryuken.com/2012/06/25/announcing-the-evo-2012-indie-showcase-titles/

Evo is about hard-nosed competition, but it’s also about community. Just as people come to Evo to compete against the best in the world,
they also come to meet up with old friends, and share a weekend with thousands of other gamers with the same passion for fighting games.

In 2012 we’re expanding this community focus by reaching out to high-five our friends in the indie game development community, who are chasing their dreams by making games on their own terms.

The chosen game developers include former Evo competitors and fans, and their games have been chosen on the basis of their skill-based and competitive designs that we think can inspire and engage any Evo attendee.

Evo 2012 will still feature all the great fighting game content that we have in the past: the tournament, the BYOC, fighting-game-centric panels, etc. The Indie Showcase goes beyond what you’ve seen before to offer you a look at the innovative work and ideas of designers shaping the competitive games of the future. Nathan Vella, president of Capy, collaborators on Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP and the team behind SUPER TIME FORCE, had this to say about our collaboration.

I've played Nidhogg and BariBariBall before at NYU's Springfighter. Both really fun games. Really tough too.

Made a separate thread for the news: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=480014

You sure? That was the first year of T5, right? I don't think it topped 3S or MVC2.

Maybe, but there were more matches of Tekken 5 in the Evo2k5 DVD than any other game in representation. Hence I assume the volume of representation in that DVD is proportional to the volume of competition at the event itself.

My vacation starts on thursday the fifth of July. It is not a coincidence =)
Was actually going to EVO this year but the whole US and A trip was cancelled due to my friend being impossible to plan anything with.
Oh well streaming until my eyes bleed out.

Last years was fantastic with that kid (Noah?) kicking ass is MvC3 and Combofiend bionic arming folks all over the place.

I believe Tekken had the highest number of entrants in EVO 2K5.

EDIT: I don't have a number, I'm basing it off the number of matches in the DVD.

I was at EVO 2005. While there were many there for TEKKEN 5, it was not the biggest game there, lol.

So looking forward to the semis for both Marvel and SFIV.

I don't have time to look through the SFIV pools, is there a list of notable international players? Any of Alioune, Sako, Xiahou etc?

I'm kind of surprised to see that UMVC3's prize is so much lower than SFIV's. I thought Marvel had caught up or even surpassed SFIV in popularity by now. It sure seems like people get more excited for Marvel at tournaments.

Only in America... Marvel is a distinct 2nd at best in other countries and at a lot of places non factors. Also there was more AE entrants at Final Round than Marvel... and when you start to add 20 (guessing) from Japan, 10 from singapore, 10 from australia, 10 from hong kong and so on for the other 35 countries attending..

Precisely, for all the hate that SFxT gets. It would have been the 3rd biggest game at EVO if not for T-shirts. A lot of Marvel and SF4 heads will play it just because it's familiar enough to them.

SFxTk probably would've cracked 1100 if it was going to be run as a 1v1 tournament... oh but I'm sure half of them would just sleep through their pools anyway.

As for your earlier post about why Capcom only bumped up SFIV prize pot? Simple... they didn't want MK9 to have the biggest pot pool @ the event and SFIV has the most entrants, was closer and hey 25 > 23, 25 is a good number and it's the 25th anniversary.

Good on them too, lol @ Mk9's fraudulent ass. As for your last point about Tag 2, pretty much agree... maybe Namco can offer a free t-shirt.

Hopefully for Evo 13

Street Fighter X Tekken > Darkstalkers or heavily reworked SfxTK, whatever Capcom do.
MK9 > DoA 5
SCV > Tekken Tag 2
KOF > Persona 4 (with dlc chars and rebalance)

AE and UMVC3 will continue to be the big 2, AE wins again since outside of America most people don't give a shit about marvel. Persona 4 gets 3rd place as Atlus once again offers a t-shirt.

Also Evo 2011 numbers.

SSFIVAE - 1456 Players
MVC3 - 1072 Players
MK9 - 516 Players
Tekken 6 - 224 Players
Blazblue CS2 - 208 Players

No, yes, yes.

Fat Kindevu, Xian and Ryan Hart are in the same pool

SFxTk probably would've cracked 1100 if it was going to be run as a 1v1 tournament...

Doubt it

Hopefully for Evo 13

Street Fighter X Tekken > Darkstalkers or heavily reworked SfxTK, whatever Capcom do.
MK9 > DoA 5
SCV > Tekken Tag 2
KOF > Persona 4 (with dlc chars and rebalance)

Hopefully they'll go back to 5 games and drop xT completely since we'rent getting DS or any other Capcom fighter till next gen.

Also, KoF ain't going anywhere.

People are forgetting Gods Among Us. A NRS game with WB backing with already strong support from the MK community.

EVO13 lineup imo

SF4
UMvC3
KOF13
TTT2
MK9/Gods Among Us
Persona 4 Arena/DOA5 (pending on community support)

I wished EVO moved to a convention hall, moves out of july 4 weekend and make it a 4 day event with more games and just have all the games listed above.

Hope for no holiday weekend next year

This so much.

Just move the event to a big convention hall and make it a 4 day event not on a holiday weekend and EVO will blow up.
edit
And have all the companies setup booths there and just make it a convention/tourney. It will draw more attendants, like a blizzcon type of thing.

Screw the last two, new Guilty Gear is still a new guilty gear. It will prob build up a bigger following than the other two. *fanboy mode on*

Man that is a line-up. I'm sure there will be a couple more randoms too.

In the entire list there isn't a lot of foreign players whom you know are certain to appear in the top 8 and to body any American player. The only player whom I will be surprised not to appear in top 8 are Uryo. I think Infiltration and Eita have very good chances for top 8 too, but anyone else being bodied by J Wong, PR Rog, Ricky etc should come as no surprise. Daigo/Mago/Tokido as I mentioned before are no longer that scary or dominant, so too is Fuudo, and even Poongko is going to crash out hard the moment he goes up against a good Sakura or Cammy player.

There is a difference between dominating and winning.

I don't think any of those players will win the tournament free. But similarly, no way is Justin or Ricky so much better especially in bad match-ups. They could well lose to most of these people in return and there are a *lot* of them.

Gunna be good

That's my quote:) I was lucky enough to help Tom & Seth a bit on this, plus we're showing SUPER TIME FORCE, so I am crazy hype. I was already going to EVO but this makes it cooler.

COME BREAK OUR GAMES FOLKS!!!

Note: everyone showing independent games at EVO are rad dudes making cool shit so please support :)

Cross-posted from the fighting games thread, since it's EVO related:

http://evo.shoryuken.com/2012/06/26...etails-multiple-streams-plus-optional-hd-ppv/

EVO will have three official streams, which can all be watched here: http://evo2012.s3.amazonaws.com/live/index.html

There will be HD streams but it will be PPV. Same content as the free streams, but in HD.

All of the money made with the PPV streams will go towards a $10,000 EVO college scholarship:

Mortal Kombat second to AE? So, I'm guessing Street Fighter/Marvel players are grinding that too now. That's too much money to ignore.
