I think…. Eventually… legacy ( nes/snes/gameboy/DS) 2D stuff could possibly get a dedicated virtual console for PC app and store.
They will always push their own hardware. Until it no longer works and their survival and future success depends on going outside of their own walled garden. even the idea of walled gardens is starting to seem antiquated. And this day age.
Switch2 seems to be off to a good start,so time will tell how many more rolls of the dice the traditional console has, especially when the PS6 comes along. Xbox as we pretty much know is gonna be doing this hybrid PC-console thing, which I think essentially will lead a wave of ITX and NUC sized console form factors equipped with Xbox OS and/or steam OS.
Anything really could happen over the next 5 years but it's obvious a lot is gonna change. And we will see this sort of fragmentation of devices all running these OS, with all your accounts on one box. We already see this with the handhelds and PC gamers essentially already do this. But soon console only gamers will be tempted away from the walled gardens so to speak
