-levels more linear
-AI being dumber. Slower reaction time as well even on hardest difficulty.
-quicktime scare events where you must spam a button to not be horror killed
-Dynamic shadowing for objects in environment removed
-scares coming from a mile away. No good scares like in fear 1 with the ladder double whammy.
-lean removed(this doesnt matter too much since the AI is dumber)
-balance in weapons is all over the place. 4 main weapons you can carry now?
+models/animations were better
+MECH SHOOTING BRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBBRBRBRBR
Can't say I agree for the most part.
The AI isn't as good, I agree, but I didn't think it was great in FEAR either (never understood the praise it received for that). There are quite a few CONSOLE games with significantly better AI than either FEAR title so this isn't a console issue.
Loss of dynamic shadows was a disappointment, the overall visuals are MUCH better than FEAR 1.
The original was one of the boxiest games I've played. Much less organic than any of its peers at the time. It sacrificed everything in the name of lighting, basically. While playing, this is the kind of thing you see constantly.
While FEAR 2 was more like...
Most environments in FEAR 1 were incredibly simplistic boxes slathered normal maps.
I didn't think either game managed particularly good scaes.
Aside from quicktime events, I didn't think there was anything about it that felt particularly consolized over the original.
