F.E.A.R. (this) thread

Finished it. The last part of the game is one of the lamest excuses for the end of a game I've ever seen. I mean,
an entire level killing ghosts? WTF Monlith, WTF? How do you deal with Fettel is utterly sad too.

Other than that I must say that FEAR has two of the most brilliant things I've ever seen on a videogame. Ever.

1º Best
nuclear explosion EVER
The scale, how do you see all the shit flying towards you, the impressive force throwing you backwards, the sense of being FUBAR'ed... nailed.
At the beginning I thought that those little fires coming from the ground were something else, but when I saw the fireball rising in the horizon I was like HOLY SHIT, I NEED TO GET THE F*CK OUT OF HERE!!!

2º The sequence where
Alma wakes up (that was her rotten corpse, right?), kills the doctor and then comes for you. Oh. My. God. That was so f*cked up.

The ending is a total cliffhanger, but I didn't find it terrible. Indeed, I want to see a sequel (this time more detailed and with better level design, please), the game feels rushed but there's some huge potential there and the plot is barely scratched.

It must be noted that while the level design is horrible and needs a lot of detail, the art was pretty cool. I loved the heavy guards and the mech suits, I wish I could get some high res 2D art of them.

Sathsquatch, it look obvious that big parts of the game were cutted for some reason. I think that
Jankowski
was one of the "casualities" =/

I get the impression that they were running out of money or time or something and had to really scale back on what they were trying to accomplish with this game. Reading that wikpedia entry and watching the collector's edition shows that they wanted sequences where the player worked with a demolitions expert and a sniper. They cut out a car chase as well. I really wish that they had gotten a chance to have more unique gameplay moments. As it is, most of the game just blurs together. They also cut out at least one major villian.

One thing that really bothers me about this game is how the FEAR team (which is apparently only composed of four people in a high-tech base) is designed to fight supernatural threats, but the game only has one supernatural enemy in total. I was really looking forward to fighting some supernatural enemies and bosses and seeing how their AI would differ from the normal clone soldier's AI. Sure, Fettel is a psychic commander, but that doesn't really affect the gameplay at all. If they didn't explicitly state that he was a psychic, I would have never known. Apparently, he can kill a man with one swipe of his arm, but
he doesn't even put up a fight when the player is standing right in front of him with a gun
.

FEAR had a lot of potential for both storytelling and gameplay, but I don't think they even came close to realizing that potential. I hope that they are planning to do a sequel and they fix the problems of the first game.

I think they knew what was going on but as you said they ran out of money or had to reach the deadline at all costs (yeah, I am calling you, Monolith lurkers ;) ) It is a shame, because the game is good as it is, but it could be legendary. It pains me to see all that potential wasted with major plot-holes, incoherences and horrible level design.

FEAR 2. Bring it on.

You want to see some of that AI try playing on regular difficulty WITHOUT using slow-mo. It's tough and really fun.

Just reached "Sayanora, Sucka' stage today and am still having a great time. I actually appreciate the enviroments in this game. The further I get into the game, the more I look at each enviroment and start visualizing areas I can use for cover for some great push and pull battles. I am playing on the second highest difficulty so perhaps this allows me to appreciate the firefights mroe than those playing it on lower difficulty. I'm using the slo motion to a minimum too and battles are just fantastic. The atmosphere has just sucked me in. Time to go back and play some more. :D

Yeah, this game is much better without the slo-mo. I have played through part of the game again on the second highest difficulty without using slo-mo, and I liked the game much better then. The game normally comes down to "enter slow motion and shoot everyone in the head, then repeat". Without slo-mo, the player has to think more tactically to get the drop on the enemy or risk getting blown away before they can take everyone out.

Wow, I must suck because I really need slo-mo otherwise I die. Anyway, I prefer to shoot the bad guys in real-time too. But I do prefer slo mo for when using explosive material to watch the bad guys blow up nice and slow. :D

This game is so damn generic (barring the lol Sadako parts), but there's something oddly satisfying about watching a soldier fall into several pieces after getting caught in a grenade blast

Just finished it. Easily, one of the best shooters if not best shooter of the year. Will restart on the hardest difficulty to really see what this AI can do.

I do not think so, because the story is totally crap. HL2 has the best plot and the best scenarios, but does not reach the same level in enemy AI. I am having the biggest fun I had in a mp FPS with SlowMotion Deathmatch, the idea is simply fantastic! I hope they will add some new MP weapons with future patches. As for patch 1.02, considering the huge amount of problems users are reporting on FEAR forums, I suggest everybody to wait for 1.03 (that should be out very very soon).

No.

Bump-tastic!

I am playing the mp part a lot lately. The gameplay is nearly as good as the one from the singleplayer portion and features all the gunporn that we know and love, plus it's really fast. Unfortunately the level design is pretty damn bad.

When are the mod tools coming out?
