rip em.

Jobbs continuing to dislike everything.
I don't see the issue with the trailer. The acting wasn't Hollywood level, but it got the point across. Whether that translates into the full game or is just used for marketing will have to be seen.

Eh? I like tons of stuff. I just can't stand Deus Ex post reboot.

I'm joking, and I edited my post to add more information.
Story wise I don't think Deus Ex is the greatest thing in the world. I do think it touches on interesting topics though that other games don't.

You're fine, breh.

The winter arc is the current zenith of videogame storytelling as far as I'm concerned.

yep. I love how she becomes joel.

like earlier in the game joel says to ellie "you don't have to worry about me" then in winter ellie says the exact same thing to david

I used my boots

I'mnot big of the crunching sound of a bug under a shoe or having roach guts on my shoe so I just used the lawn chair to cut its head off and tossed the body into the bushes on the off chance that the rumors were true that they could live without them for a while. It looked like it had been poisoned when I found it.

You know, I don't really get what's so good about the writing of TLoU

Subtle interactions and character growth. Dialogue that doesn't sound like it was ripped straight from a D-tier action movie. Characters that behave like actual people instead of archetypes. None of these are revolutionary, but given how rare they are in videogames it stands out.

Videogame writing is so mediocre that at the sign of something somewhat decent people lose their shit. Also of course the emotional manipulation with the beginning pretty much told the game was amazing just because of the opening.

Fair enough on both thoughts

I think from my perspective, games like that seem like a bit of a waste of the storytelling potential of the medium. Like, I can't imagine turning TLoU into a film or TV series faithfully would be too difficult. There are very unique aspects to games that other mediums don't have, all of which come down to it being a two-way road. Games like Super Metroid or (as anime as it is) 999 would not work without fairly fundamental changes. Like the "plot" I guess of Super Metroid is told through you exploring this planet. The plot is essentially the gameplay. 999 does some fucking weird stuff with the choices you make as a player. Not that I'm saying these are instances of actually good writing, but more that I feel like holding up TLoU as the pinnacle of game storytelling because it managed to reach the level of a pretty ok film seems like a bit of a waste. I dunno. Hopefully my words make sense.

999 Story works as fine as it does cause its pretty much a Visual Novel with puzzles on it. The main focus is the story and there is not much gameplay to actually save the story if it fails at parts. As for the Super Metroid, Dark Souls lore exploration it simply wouldnt work on all types of games. The closest I can think to TLoU would be Telltale games and Life is Strange and even then those don't have action gameplay like TLoU but QTE based actions. What seriously sell TLoU besides decent writing is the acting by the characters and the animations. If you did that live action it wouldnt get as much praise as it gets on videogame form tbh.

Starving artists literally starving in San Francisco because all their money goes for rent.
Most artists/art students either have inheritance or are there on their parent's dime.

I actually am finding a couple places here and there that are within my budget/what I pay at home right now, so we'll see. Would really prefer a new job though.
