Checked out both railgun and nyan koi, railgun is better I guess one good thing about an all female cast (sofar) is there no harem tropes. Characters are
okay and abilities are interesting. Nyan Koi tries too hard to be funny, romantic comedy with talking cats. May watch more of railgun.

Sadly Seitokai no Ichizon, Railgun and Kampfer are probably what I'll watch that are new, Natsu No Arashi was good as usual. I could already tell where they're going with it but it's fun to watch.

Seitokai no Ichizon I actually find amusing.

Kampfer I'm making a little hedge on, I think it could be amusing and I have a little hope because we haven't had the main character fondle himself nor did we get anything insulting when he had to use the rest room, so perhaps they actually do something funny with the show instead of just going for cheap value, but I'll admit it's a long shot with this show and I may still end up dropping it.

Nyan Koi wasn't really funny at all.

Natsu No Arashi, really, everyone should watch this show, I love it.

Good to see I'm not the only one :P
Yeah, the first episode was pretty funny to me. I've always enjoyed character interaction the most, it was always my favorite moments in Kurenai, for example, my favorite moments of Bleach(which are long gone), why I like shows like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei despite there being close to no plot most of the time.

Also, the new Bleach movie fucking sucked. It's like they're tired of even trying, he only used his damn hollow mask once, the fights weren't even fights anymore. It's like every fucking movie is Ichigo being an enemy of Soul Society, again, a few trusting him and going against orders, again, and then the fan service finally that shows everyone attacking once with Ichigo landing the final blow.

Fuck, if I was Ichigo I'd have probably killed all those idiots by now, who needs allies like this?

According to the official website, no registration will be required either (unlike biglobe and other sites that broadcast anime online) in hopes that many people will be able to watch it. Hopefully they don't IP block either :)

On another note, the ltd edition of vol 1 sold out in most places so aniplex is doing a second run with shipments re-starting next week.

I hope they release the files directly so people can sub it, or at least allow people to capture it somehow.

if it's the same as Atogatari, it'll be an *.asx url that links to an mms stream which can be captured relatively easily with a number of free utilities.

Ohara Sayaka's over-the-top performance of Beatrice adds quite a bit of "magic" to the episodes as well, imho...really enjoying the series. Are there plans to animate Chiru? (I suppose, Kai's equivalent in Umineko)

Nothing official, but there's no doubt it wouldn't be. Umineko's one of the most popular shows currently. That and they animated almost every single arc and more for Higurashi previously. And yes, Ohara is seriously having too much fun. That laugh is crazy maniacal.

So apparently, Bakemonogatari vol. 1 sold 44k copies combined, putting it above K-on! and Macross F this year so far...BD was at 29k, DVD was at 15k. For reference, K-on! was slightly above 40k and Macross F was slightly shy of 40k

Woohoo!

Now adapt the other novels SHAFT!

Oh look, another first episode review!

Kobato - In a Madhouse production of a Clamp manga, a mysterious girl [Kobato] comes from...somewhere...to Earth, along with her talking, blue dog named Ioryogi, to fill up a bottle with scarred hearts in order to fulfill her wish. It sounds like the perfect setup for some major otaku-bating, but it actually comes across as way more of an Aria-like show than most of the other crud that's come out recently. Meaning: no fanservice, no goopy love stories with bland, milquetoast nerds, and no overt otaku-baiting. There's lots of pastel colors, water-color backgrounds, and slice of life antics. Nothing amazing here really, but it's entertaining fluff that won't make you want to smash your brains out with a hammer. One of the recurring gags is that Ioryogi breathes fire on Kobato when she screws up, which is fairly often.

The Bad: Almost too cute for its own good, but it's not in a pervy, otaku-bating way at least.

The Good: Light and inoffensive.

Revised rankings for Fall '09:

1. A Certain Scientific Railgun
2. Kobato
3. Letter Bee
4. Sacred Blacksmith
5. Armed Librarians: The Book of Bantorra
6. Nyan Koi
7. Seitokai no Ichizon
8. Kampfer

Bakemonogatari

The previous entries were pretty much concentrated eye candy, so I'm hopeful we're not going to be getting something looking like Youtube with regards to these webcasts.

Kuuchuu Buranko
Adaption of the award-winning collection of short stories by Hideo Okuda, directed Mononoke's Nakamura Kenji. The protagonist is an eccentric neurologist with an injection fetish and an Oedipus complex that is known for making patients much worse before they get better. SHOW OF THE YEAR RIGHT HERE, BROTHERS.
this is probably the closest i'll ever get to anime frankenfran, so i'll take it.

Superficially, while it does seem slightly like ARIA when you take the heartwarming scene of Kobato singing, aside from that, I don't see much of a resemblance. The "gags" reek of trying too hard to be funny, but not being really comical at all detracts a lot from the overall episode imho. The character interactions aren't that great either, granted it's still ep1...

Not at the bottom of the pile, but I wouldn't put it near the top either.

Aria-like in tone, I meant. Nothing can be as good as Aria, obviously.

Still, it's better than just about anything else this season.

They better; my GF was pretty pissed off when I told her this season doesn't have Koyomi Vamp in it at all and that she'd have to hope a new season got produced if she wanted to see it. :lol

Also enjoyed Kobato as well. Love it when she was giving the garbage to the crows and ended up being chase by them. :lol

I've that Sasameki Koto is supposed to be pretty good. It's a highschool drama/romance about...lesbians. But good! We shall see.

Beatrice in ep 15 of Umineko :lol :lol

hope this isn't going to turn into some romance ending with Beatrice and Battler hooking up....

The first OP was a genius move, I think. I know I kept watching at first because I wanted to see the stuff in the intro, but by episode 2 I was completely hooked and couldn't care less whether the season would have any action or not.

But once I looked up the stuff about the books I'm became even more hyped for the possibility of a season with Kizumonogatari, assuming they have plans for it.

Kobato: Haven't watched it yet but surprised people actually like it, given the abominations that were the Tsubasa and Holic anime. I wonder if it'll split off from the manga, though, since CLAMP really hasn't taken it anywhere.

Kuchu Buranko: I just finished burning through Mononoke and my reaction to the series was something like: "Wow, what the hell did I just watch and why isn't there more of it". Eagerly anticipating Buranko/Trapeze.

Well, no one can say Shaft doesn't love sequels :lol and Bakemonogatari is pretty popular.
Heck, isn't Zetsubou-sensei on season 3 already? I'd be pretty happy to just get decent quality versions of the rest of Tsubasa Cat any time soon.

CLAMP was too busy brain-fucking their audience to do anything with Kobato, is my guess.

Oh definitely :lol

They better get back to working on it!

EDIT: Okay I finished Kobato, some thoughts.

I assume, since they gave her the bottle in episode 1, that this will be getting two seasons at most (if that) and it will branch from the manga quite early on. Since the manga really isn't moving at all, their decision isn't unreasonable. But then why did they pad episode 1 with so much dialogue? I hope the budget for this isn't too low, since it looks like one of the few decent things this season.

Also, one of the better things about Kobato is CLAMP's costume fetish, her dresses changes like every single day. The OP did a good job of showing this but Kobato had that clover green dress on the whole time.

Ioryogi should've been drawing Kobato's face!

Usagi is too cute goddamn, I was going to explode from the cuteness.

I'm going to keep watching but I think I'd enjoy a direct adaptation (or something completely different) more. I mean, why namedrop Kohaku when they skipped all the other CLAMP references?

I just finished watching Kimi no Todoke and it's so... pretty. The animation is great and the colors are to die for. There's a few laughs to be had here and there, too, which is great.

Kobato is, uh, adorable I guess? I found it to be quite dull, and it's annoyingly CLAMP--it's like saying, SHAFT being SHAFT, except that CLAMP being CLAMP means an overabundance of pretty young men and vapid young girls with no plot resolution in sight.

So far, though, Natsu no Arashi 2 is the best show of the season. I might change my mind once Kuuchuu Buranko comes out, but Natsu is so underrated that it's almost criminal. The beach episode was phenomenal. It's by the same director as Bakemongatari! More people need to watch it.

edit: that reminds me, Akiyuki Shinbo is on a roll. The huge success of Bakemonogatari is awesome.

First episode of Sasameki Koto was kind of a let down. Way too slow paced imho.
I'll keep watching since I like the manga, but I hope the next episodes will be better paced.

Nothing official yet but I know in a side story for the game where the all the girls give valentine day chocolate to the guy they love, Beato tries to give Battler some. It was major fail though.

OMG!

In Asura Cryin' the stupid protagonist actually wants to know what the fuck is going on, finally. Well, it only took a whole season and 2 episodes of the second but perhaps the story will go somewhere now, probably not though.

Kobato. Ehh, I dunno, kinda boring, but it looked pretty.

Yep. If nothing else, it just looks gorgeous. I can see why some people would find the character insufferably weak-minded though.

Hah, totally agree on this one too. I can see why they wanted to end the episode the way they did, but it might have gone by better if this was just the first half of an episode.

I skipped the first season - is this a supernatural comedy series? I kind of didn't know what it was from the little I read about it back in the spring.

Yup, supernatural comedy.

The first episode, for the first season, is a bit odd, though. It just isn't very funny compared to the rest of the season. I almost stopped watching it because of that, but if you can press on, it's probably one of the best series this year.

Haruhi movie has just been announced for spring 2010. It will cover the events of The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi novel.

and here was me thinking the Haruhi farce had ended :lol .

I'm surprised they could even get the funding to do it. Endless 8 was like the single worst derailing of a franchise I've ever seen; it was so stupid that it pretty much obliterated the fond memories I had of the first run.

^
Endless Eight as a movie would be awesome!

Hrm. I'll add it to the list of hundreds of shows I need to watch before I die. :lol
Though, I'll probably get to it sooner because it's shorter.

This is some good news. This was probably the best story in the series and I can totally see it carrying it's own movie. It'll be a bit weird through if they make it a theatrical release as it probably won't require a huge leap in animation, this isn't exactly an action oriented story aside from one very brief scene towards the end.

Kobato wasn't bad - she's a moron, but it was sweet at least. Be nice to find out what the actual plot is, though. I presume they'll do something similar to Cardcaptor Sakura and pad everything out with endless filler. Does it get deliciously bitter like other CLAMP stories? Half the problem with the Holic and Tsubasa anime were the ropey production values (the Tsubasa OVAs and Holic film show what they COULD have done) which Kobato doesn't seem to have in the same way.

I liked Kimi ni Todoke, but it's a bit... strange. Not helped by the slightly incoherent fansub I watched that completely obfuscated Sawako's feelings but it was very pretty and has the potential to be a bit KareKano-esque, and I LOVED KareKano. Shoujo is so much more entertaining when it actually has a budget...

DtB2 tonight. Should be interesting...

I'm of a mixed mind about DtB2. From all the press releases and such before they unveiled the little Russian girl, it looked to be all about Yin and Hei... but they pretty much disappeared off all promotional material after that. I hope both of them are in from the start, instead of some introductory sequence featuring the sniper lass.

DTB2 wont have mini arcs btw, its going to be one 12 episode story.

And there will be 4 OVA episodes that bridge season 1 and season 2 released on the Blu-Rays/DVDs

Well, at least we know they can't jam the plotline full of filler eps right?

Aside from the fanservice crap in the first half of the episode, this was pretty solid.
Hooray for Hei.

I ended up watching DtB2 on my laptop. :lol

Hei looks like a hobo now, and April is dead. Hei also seems extremely ruthless again--looks like what connections he found back in Tokyo are gone now. The dead cat looks like Mao, but didn't he die? And where's Yin? I read some of the spoilers up to episode 5, and Yin is nowhere to be seen--it's almost like she died in between season one and two, confirming my worst fears. :(

Another round of first episodes and one second episode!

Shin Koihime Musou: Spinoff series of anime based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms with all-girl cast. Vapid, lots of fanservice.

11Eyes: Lots of supernatural goings-on, some highschool hijinks, and lots of inexplicable panty shots [well, I guess it's not THAT inexplicable considering the source material: a hentai game]. Somewhat reminiscent of Persona 3 down to the weird dark-world, Junpei-esque side character, and highschool-aged characters.

Book of Bantorra episode 2: Better than episode 1 and features much less terribad CG. Still not quite THERE, but I may stick around a little bit longer to see if it can make the leap.

Latest rankings:

1. A Certain Scientific Railgun
2. Kobato
3. Sasameki Koto
4. Letter Bee
5. Armed Librarians: The Book of Bantorra
6. Kimi ni Todoke
7. 11Eyes
8. Sacred Blacksmith
9. Nyan Koi
10. Kampfer
11. Shin Koihime Musou
12. Seitokai no Ichizon

Thought Kimi No Todoke was actually better than the manga original somehow, might keep on watching it...Kobato wasn't bad either...kinda meh about everything else...
