Fuck, Japan's making it even harder for North America to start giving a damn again.

Running on over 10 years now, so I doubt it.

I just developed good senses over time. Following staff and what not, I never even read summaries for anything that I plan to watch.

I follow the hype train, wherever it may lead me, for good or for ill.

LOGH 11:
Seigfried: I'M DREAMING OF A DREAM GALLERY OF DREAMS.

He wants to bone Annerose so bad.

Saying that it doesn't really sound like you enjoy it at all anymore. Your "good" taste is questionable sometimes as well, but we all have our faults.

I come across titles by chance, pick them up by inkling, and then watch them by whim.

Needless to say, there are pros and cons to this approach.

No it's just that I have a quirk about knowing too much about the things I'm going to watch, I really never want to know anything about them so that I can experience it without reservation/colored expectations.

I do it for everything.

That's how I do things for the most part, but when searching blinding I read the descriptions I can find and see if the concept is interesting enough.

A quickly developing bitterness against anime in general, no doubt.

Huh, I thought to myself. Looks like 200+ posts were added on while I was gone.

Oh, K-ON bashing/moaning.

*keeps reading*

Oh, more whining.

Hey, it's the same shit all over again. It's like we never left the Summer thread.
We never did leave the Summer thread.

I also select shows to watch by the concept art/screenshots.

See that method leaves me open to dismiss something, by blindly watching something I can sit through anything and judge it fairly. Combine this with the litmus test of staff and I never go wrong.

That's how I got notified of Kimi ni Todoke! o:

I guess we think too differently in the selection process.

Mirai Nikki OVA isn't in fall?

I'm gonna give a shot at most shows as usual, even Samurai Girls and MM!, without forgetting everything JC Staff does because they rock (when they don't do yaoi stuff).

I select shows by the hype they generate. Gurren Lagann is probably the best example, along with Bakemonogatari.

Or how cool the trailers look. Tatami Galaxy comes to mind, along with Trapeze.

I avoid stuff with embarrassing covers, because I buy my anime in person from a store where the (female) staff know me.

Quickly? I've been watching for almost a decade and a half.

Anyway, I've largely carved my own path through the world of anime, and despite sitting through a lot of shit that happens to push a particular button of mine(hey, I'm admitting it), I've come across decent titles that get little to no love here.

Anime isn't what it was. That said, I can still find 1-2 shows a season that I find worth watching, so it's not all bad.

I realise that this sounds pathetic to the LOGH marathoners, but I'm finding it hard to muster enthusiasm to watch the last 8 or so Macross eps.

Is it worth my while ?
Watch them if you want to see the love triangle resolved.

Also recently read the first novel of Bungaku Shoujo and enjoyed it quite a bit. I heard that the movie was quite good too. However it seems that the movie adapts the fifth novel in the series and since Yen Press is on a 'one release every six months' (with 8 volumes it'll be 4 years until it's finished being localized, oh the suffering) deal with their light novels I don't know if I want to actually check the movie out. Anyone here have any thoughts on it?

I noticed that there were OAV pack-ins as well, but I never took the time to watch them.

I think that staff is at least a better indicator of quality than most methods, if you follow and enjoy animation/direction/character design/storyboarding/planning/music/voice acting by specific individuals what they're involved in next is sure to appeal to you at least on some level. Or working backward in time what these people have done in the past would also be very much worth looking into.

But for those "canon" series that people recommended in general on /a/ and the like, I just sat down and watched them without second thought. I figured the best way to determine whether I would enjoy these esteemed works would be through experiencing them. For currently airing anime I just apply what I've "learned" almost subconsciously and choose to follow certain things and filter out those I suspect to be of dubious quality.

To be fair it isn't a good title. I came up with it sooner after I woke up and was still not all there, and the only thing that came to mind at the moment was OreImo.

People tend to do that with anything they're interested in... music being the best example I think.

I select shows based on various factors like a - what people recommend to me b - looking through staff / studios, c - what's considered essential in genre a or b from sites / forums. Also like i am for music, i tend to be a internet hound and spend all day searching up various anime series and add whatever looks interesting / well-received to my ever-expanding list of stuff to watch.:)

Exactly, but as you might be aware there are not that many people in this very thread that legitimately follow such a method. All I can say is that it has made me enjoy anime and manga much moreso than when I was left to my own devices years ago.

I was told those were side stories so I would be relatively safe in looking into them. I want more Bungaku Shoujo but the next release is in January. And then the one after July. : (

The people in LOGH have a child's understanding of economics. I know it's necessary for the story to work but it's really really grating.

I thought Japan has a good education system, surely the country that produced Economics and Wolf can do better with a sci fi space epic?

It's an old-school space opera. You're lucky the characters don't act like they're from the 19th century... oh, wait, they do.

Speaking of which, whatever happened to icarus-daedelus? She said she'd check out the Black Lion dub then was never seen again...

... :/

My to watch list is like miles long these days, If I ever get back in the mood for backlog stuff I might start with some movies like Hols or Belladonna, maybe I'll start Brother, Dear Brother or something. Damn I really don't feel like watching anything at the moment.

I guess there's nothing I can do about the title, but I think we do need a nice banner of some kind.

Also, I love how this thread got K-ON'd and I wasn't even involved because of how asleep I was! :lol

Seriously, I was so tired for some reason and then I was like this:

Meanwhile you guys went apeshit for 4 pages! :lol

It was made in 1998 man.

1998.

That was not that far back.

We understood how democracy and economics worked in 1998. Hell we understood how they worked in the 19th century.

This is like if people from the 18th century made an anime.

I pick new shows by recommendation. And in the case of new season the 4chan /a/ list.

Rarely is there something far off on the horizon I am looking forward to. Only far off thing I am currently anticipating is "Despera", the new Yoshitoshi ABe anime.

Example. I seem to be the only one so far listing...

Otome Youkai Zakuro (JC Staff)

Manga adaptation by JC Staff. Supernatural alternate-history story that deals with the relationship between fox-eared female youkai and handsome government officials. It may have character designs by the artist of the Utena TV show, but it is sadly still directed by Chiaki Kon.

Why did I pick it?

+1 Pastel colors and possible romantic storyline. Usually indicates a Shoujo
+1 Fantasy/alternate universe setting (animal ears/tail have always been a staple in many fantasy shows, so it doesn't bug me.)
+7999 Utena character designer

Could it suck? sure. But there's enough there to make me give it a shot.

Well they also produced Setokai Yakuindomo, so... um... yeah.

The episodes you are watching were made in the 80s actually.:)

Has Transformers: Animated in Japan been cancelled yet? I want to see if they'll actually do something like the Rodimus Boy up there (as they've experimented with those ideas previously, and Sari, an American character, is an expansion of that). It's way too early for the to bring over Prime (especially since they retconned Animated to be part of Movieverse).
