Re: Ghost in the Shell

If you want to feel like you're in the first semester of a philosophy class -> Watch the GitS movies

If you want to watch an action packed special task force procedural series written by someone who dropped out of previously mentioned philosophy class -> Watch GitS:SAC

If you want to watch an action packed OVA which desperately wants to be The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo except with robots and cyborgs -> Watch GitS Arise

Bonus:

If you just want hot lesbian porn -> Read the GitS manga

At least the Gits movies even if their are a philosophy class are VEry pretty , ( especialy the second )

If you want to feel like you're in the first semester of a philosophy class -> Watch the GitS movies

To refine this:

If you want to stare at beautiful, moody cityscapes set to dreamy music while meditative dialogue floats overhead -> Watch the first GitS movie

If you want to talk to that guy in philosophy class who thinks he's oh so cool for having read a bunch of books -> Watch the second GitS movie

If you want to watch an action packed OVA which desperately wants to be The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo except with robots and cyborgs -> Watch GitS Arise

Thankfully it left the graphic rape scene out.

There are still 3 more episodes, never count Tow Ubukata out! >_<

Maybe he can work it out of his system with the Mardock movies. If they just let him do a graphic scene involving a dolphin, a couple of dogs, a mouse, and spiked baseball bats, then he won't have to do it for GitS.

SDF Macross - 4

Macross is the ship that keeps on giving, what a mess. The animation is strange at times in where shots seem to linger in scenes where characters are talking, creating a pause break in conversations. I'm sure this is probably something commonly found in series from way back but this is the first time I've actually been conscious of it.

This is my first proper attempt at the Macross franchise outside of Plus which i can't remember much of and I'm enjoying it.

Ace of Diamond Episode 6

Best one yet though, never gets old seeing it in its various usages as Haruici Kominato is amazing character designs, as well as Furuya, and Eijun as well. Calendar version was best. In any event probably best episode too. Star players like those named three + Miyuki definitely carry this show forward. Hoping that Takigawa Chris Yuu too will. Only faults are just the standard normal players are a bit lacking in terms of being memorable like those in Oofuri were and then the designs of the third years is really lacking a lot, they all look like chunky monsters
though it certainly makes the baseball more frightening and intense when their eyes glow on when they swing the bat like here with Eijun and how their level just completely dwarfs his.
. Looking for much more as we go forward.

Maturity, bitches.
Nice to see more strides in CG animation taking place in the Japanese Animation Industry. Looking good!

If anything, that only shows how most people are incredibly bad at classifying stuff.

I remember when I noticed that Gunslinger Girls was "shonen" on mangaupdates, I tried to rectify it, but an admin blocked the change, saying it was shonen because it was published in a shonen mangazine.

Gunslinger Girls.

The series about:
-political issues in Italy with separatists
-terrorism and counter-terrorism and an intelligence agency
-child soldiers and their usually dramatic backstories
- psychological and physical manipulation and the effects in both sides
-a history of vengeance and forgiveness
-but mostly, drama and tragedy all-around

I suppose kids read it between One Piece and Slam Dunk?

Railgun S Episode 8 and 9

The action is pretty boring when Accelerator isnt involved as Misaka is pretty weak in all aspects. However, I must say Meltdowner has provided the second most interesting fight of sorts of this anime. Loved the challenge and the ability, even if the personality is pretty atrocious.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai 10

Ending can be great whenever they attempt to sing the ED song and the commentary this time was hilarious.

All it matters is the magazine it was (is being) published on.

Been quiet lately trying to figure out my dieing desktop. I've just gotta baby it along until spring, when I can hopefully get a new one. Also, getting back used to watching Anime on my Laptop instead of my Dual monitor setup my desktop has. Anyway...

SDF Macross - 05 "Well, you did say you wanted the city destroyed."
Forgetting the fact that it was never built with the intention to hold a city, this ship is a nightmare. Makes you question the logic in retrofitting a destroyed alien craft in the space of ten years and expecting it to work.

I like how detailed and dense the battles are, there's so much going on it really gives you a sense of scale that i hope continues throughout the series.

It's hard to show in stills but i think it's pretty cool.

Thanks for giving arguments to your position.

Oh, wait.
But he's correct. Terms like "shonen," "shoujo," and "seinen" are terms for the demographic the publication's targeting, not genre labels or content ratings. The words are sometimes used as such in conversation ("That's a very traditional shonen series pattern") but for purposes of classification, it's all about the magazine, baby. Which is why things like Gunslinger Girl or Franken Fran are shonen manga. (And I'm all in favor of traumatizing children with horrific and awesome comics, so, there's nothing wrong with that.)

Shoujo, josei, shounen, seinen - those labels are solely determined by the stated target audience of the magazine a manga is published in. They are not genre labels! Gunslinger Girl is published in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh, which is explicitly published as a shounen magazine; it also publishes manga such as A Certain Scientific Railgun, Toradora, and Yotsuba&. If a manga is published in Dengeki Daioh, then it is a shounen manga regardless of what its content might be.

Now does the stated target audience of a magazine influence the content of the manga it publishes? Sure, knowing that your manga is aimed at a particular audience you will often write and draw it in a way that you know appeals to that audience. But there's not a hard-and-fast rule about "this type of series must be published in a seinen magazine". The Japanese market has already established these classifications; Western fans imagining that they can remake them themselves to fit their own idea of what they "should be" is a pet peeve of mine.

AnimeGAF uses hummingbird.

Also, of that list I'd choose Code Breaker. Jojo is something you watch if you used to read the manga and/or enjoy the property. Not being familiar with the manga, the anime was a big turnoff for me.

You should watch Code Geass.

A good chunk of the people that loved it and voted it high in the AOTY thread had no experience with the property at all.

Golem is a Rock-Ground and unlike Onix, there's no water on it when Pikachu zaps it in the opening of the first movie. Is it any wonder Mewtwo wanted to clone that?

Pikachu also somehow thinks Thundering itself on top of a Swellow was enough to Golden Armor Digivolve, but we're not considering that for evidence of logic.

I also remember Pikachu thundering a Geodude in the first Hoenn Gym battle. I remember Brock saying that: "When a thunderbolt hits at that close range, it can do serious damage to even a Geodude!"

Lol Pokémon Anime logic. I know I'll never forget this hilarious piece of work from the show.

Sure we are! Point is anime physics ain't game physics.

In the meantime I remember a floe quote.

"WHY DON'T THE SPIKES POP THE FUCKING BUBBLES!? COME ON, THAT'S NOT HOW FUCKING... GRAVITY FUCKING WORKS WITH SPIKE---FUCK"

But more important, we don't need to completely adhere to anime physics.
