I've never seen Code Geass and my brother says it's awesome but I kinda spoiled the ending for myself, same with FMA:B. Oh well. Gives me more time to watch other stuff I guess
It's not just his hair and eyes. Kinda spoiler? Not really: In none of the episodes to they talk about
his clothing and gear. This story is supposedly taking place in an alternate reality late 1800's Japan that's still isolated from the world, yet Ginko dresses and carries gear that seem decidedly un-Japanese, especially when constantly contrasted with the rest of the people.
Just strikes me as odd it's not a point that's ever brought up in the show, but his physical appearance is sometimes.
Urushibara stated that Mushishi is set in an imaginary time between the Edo and Meiji periods, with technology of the 19th century but with Japan as still a country closed to foreign exchange.
[Ikuhara] Old? It feels like things are divided into the the time before and after "Sailor Moon". I feel like it really infected the tastes at Comiket.
[Anno] Yeah. Whether something's major or not at Comiket amounts to whether or not it gets made into erotic stuff. After all, the sex industry is strong no matter what era it is. As Tsurumaki (Kaguya) said, earnestly value all things equally. Both Hiromatsu Junko and Ayanami Rei. I can't express it in words, but I feel the same chasm within myself.
[Ikuhara] I think it's the feeling of antisepticness. The impression that they don't smell like anything is good.
[Anno] Yes, yes, exactly.
[Ikuhara] Apparently stuff like unnecessary hair, or nose hair, isn't absolute. Of course, in pictures the characters don't actually have nostrils (laugh). I bet everyone would start hating pictures of girls if we drew nostrils on them.
[Anno] Cel anime fans are more sterile than that.
[Ikuhara] The idols of a decade ago felt really sterile. But recently actresses and TV talents are feeling less remote and more realistic.
[Anno] Does that include us, by any chance? It's an existence where courage and familiarity seem to be draining away.
[Ikuhara] If so, the place that the people who recognize the feeling of sterility are carrying with them in their thoughts will disappear.
[Anno] That's why I'm going with the cel anime system.
[Ikuhara] There's somewhere where we'll give up, isn't there. We're trying to fulfill our own ambitions virtually. I suppose if we were doing it for real we should be trying to make more properly ideal cities and better human relations. I can't really say it in anything but pedestrian terms, but, like with things like the Aum[*1] incident, I can understand the feelings of the people who want to reorganize the world.
[Anno] In order to see a made-up drama, there are even people who neglect their real lives, right? That kind of person does things like become a seiyuu fan.
[Ikuhara] I bet what they really wanted was to touch an anime character.
[Anno] For something that could connect the virtual and the real, I too turned to the seiyuu. But that was a mistake. That's why I tried to show something different in "KareKano". But altering the existing system is tough.
[Ikuhara] Take "Utena" and "EVA". They take a fragment of our work and talk about us introducing impact into our animation, saying it's like Terayama Shushi[12]'s work or something. It's nothing that narrow, is it? I think that what appears in our works is the complex about the body that people who make made-up anime feel.
[Anno] I use the word "lifelike-ness". Compred to that, cel anime is pretty and virtual. Because I feel a sense of thwarted life in current cel anime, I want to try to peek at it from a slightly different direction. Like trying not to use any of the established seiyuu.
[Ikuhara] There are times when I want to stay away from impactful stuff and deal with the illusion. Saying one thing after another, I think everyone's deluded. Directors, animators, seiyuu, the audience, everyone is deluded while making and watching anime. I wonder if things aren't just fine that way? I don't want to brood over it. The first time I saw Terayama, I really loved it. My country bumpkin complex and my intelligencia complex give me my drive. Now that I think about it, that delusion was a godsend (laugh).
[Anno] In the old days, I had never seen anything like real impact, and thought the whole thing was absurd.
[Ikuhara] That's how it usually is.
[Anno] Adjusting a set in real life was such a pain. Anime and movies are much cooler.
[Ikuhara] That's why people quit doing theater when movies were invented. And that was precisely why I was so shocked when I saw Terayama. The pleasure of corporeality being possible. The pleasure of fiction. The kind of pleasure that makes strip-tease more engrossing than pornography.
[Anno] In real life, bad things happen, like rowdy neighbors at a shop, but impact isn't virtual, is it?
[Ikuhara] Movies are recordings, whereas the stage is a sort of "incident".
[Anno] Just like the difference between a war you're in and a war you see on TV.
[Ikuhara] It seems we can't savor the interest of becoming the people on the scene.
[Anno] That's because impact is tough stuff. Movies can't offer anything more than a pseudo-experience.
Other than that, kind of feeling like I want to cancel my CR subscription since I'm not really watching much anime anymore. Kind of feels like a waste atm.

I wonder if those who hate Milly's silly school antics in Code Geass are roughly the same people who hate Taiga's silly antics in Fate/Stay Night, ufotable's UBW included. Admittedly, I don't find them all that hilarious. Even live action Japanese humor tends to be weird and out there at times. But I guess growing up with a lot of slapstick makes me either indifferent to or mildly amused by that sort of thing, instead of bothered or annoyed.
I've never seen Code Geass and my brother says it's awesome but I kinda spoiled the ending for myself, same with FMA:B. Oh well. Gives me more time to watch other stuff I guess
I think you can still enjoy both shows even if you already know a few spoilers. It's one thing to know what will happen, but you don't know how or why. Some people find that increases rather than decreases their interest levels.
That and I've had fun rewatching both series, long after nothing in them is a surprise to me.
Ah I see, interesting. When I was watching the show, I very much likened Ginko to The Doctor from Doctor Who, in both his similar-yet-different appearance and his wandering nature that gets him involved in all manner of strange mysteries that require his expertise and for him to usually team up with a 'companion' (so to call them).
I understand and appreciate that sentiment wholeheartedly. It's the way I usually feel, but damn if it doesn't demoralise you in starting this 40+ episode show if you know certain plot points. Doesn't help that I've always seen Geass as a silly shonen show so when I all of a sudden heard that it was legit good show I was sceptical and surprised and i still am to say the least!

That's true and it's usually the way I go about things but I guess I then start to envy people who go in 100% clean and I just cba then and get in a rotten mood and spoil shit more just to kill it off. Mood swings man, they make you do things you regret! I generally do well with avoiding spoilers but when I come across them (inevitable really) it kills the mood.
I was wanting to watch LotGh recently after gawking over it for years and I read a spoiler recently on /M/ that was huge and I just laughed and removed it from my animelist.

I am. I know the show is pretty much the GOAT, truly I do but that's the way I am I guess. It's like I'm passive aggressive with myself lmao. I saw a massive spoiler so I must suffer. It's called self-sabotage or something. Eh I have plenty to watch I guess
No idea why I've never posted in here before, but I thought that I'd post anyways since it's long over due. I don't watch much anime and I'm more into the 80's/90's stuff so I guess that's why! Watched quite a few stuff recently but I don't want to bore you all with that
Getting the Gurren Lagann Blu-ray set in a few days so I'm gonna watch that with my little brother who is hyped to see it!
My Midterms are Done! Time to watch all the episodes that I put off of watching this week, starting with
Log Horizon S2 02
New character alart! We got ourselves a chuunibyou cleric! Amazing someone in a world already filled with fantastical elements. Shiroe also got himeself a raid party to take Fort Knox for himself like any self respecting super villain should. And Demikas stays losing after all this time, and will probably continue to do so well into the future.
Hi there! Don't know if I'll contribute much since my watching habits are weird and I'm a rubbish writer but I'll try to stay active. I always thought this was a thread just for currently airing anime but I guess not.
It's really weird, I grew up watching anime and love anime but I've hardly seen anything really when I look at it, double digits really. I just milk the same thing over and over lol.

That was a really good episode. The fight with female hero was great and I'm glad to see
that she didn't screw them over with the remains
. It's good to see Vivi back in higher spirits; also an appearance from the awesome Red Chaika and crew!
White Chaika still best Chaika, though
. I can't wait to see the inevitable rematch between both groups.
Well then, guess it's off to treasure island now.
Btooom! 8,9,10
Pretty aight eps. Sakamoto is a friggin idiot, though.
It's so obvious the doc is suspect.
Listen to the girl, you fool!
The fight with
the former "best friend who betrayed you" was pretty good. Figures it wouldn't end there, though. More drama is needed!
And psychotic kid returns, as expected.
Btooom! 11
As with real life, love makes people do dumb shit.
The nurse not killing the man who betrayed her (even blew off her arm in the process) and instead patching him up instead of ridding the world of his filth, Sakamoto's (fatherly?) love/adoration for old guy (which admittedly even I was fooled by) and his trust in him seemingly leading to a betrayal. When you're in a Battle Royale type situation, you need to trust only yourself.
Also, lol at Himiko's reaction from getting hit in the breast by a bomb. I mean, really?
Btooom! 12 - End
Well, I can't say I was satisfied with the way this series ended, but I guess that's all that could be done considering there was never another season.
Regardless, the series ended with some much needed hope and optimism, and hints at a positive outcome.
Crazy-eyed game developer dude has screwed things up for the company behind this "game" in order to save the protag. Guess he caught feelings.
Anyway, pretty good series overall. It was entertaining and I enjoyed every episode. This is definitely not everyone's cup of tea, though.
I do but I don't want to post it because its pathetic lol. I mainly created it to compare shows with my brother and see what he's watching and compare reviews etc. I have more shows in my planed to watch list than watched lol but I've never dropped a single show :^0
so I got around to watching the first episode of some of the shows recommended to me. I have at least downloaded almost every first episode of every show recommended to me(which is a lot!)
my thoughts on the ones ive seen so far(which is few)
parasyte - totally digging the show. It is weird, beautiful, full of a ton of mystery, and strikes me as unique so far. Can't wait to watch more.
akatsuki no yona - I am willing to watch more but it seemed like most of the episode was filler just to get to the interesting points. The opening seem seems to strike me as the show has much more that it promises. Will watch more based on the opening scene and the way the first episode ended
shingeki no bahamut - I like everything about the show. I did manage to watch the second episode.
Buddy complex - the art is something I am familiar with as ive seen heroic age , sokyuu no fafner, and other shows. I am willing to see where this goes but I miss the days of 2d mech action with beautiful art but it seems like those days are long gone. Will watch more.
Yeah, yeah, I know; I've yet to post my Code Geass review. I'll get to it I promise! But yeah, N.H.K. ...
N.H.K. ni Youkoso! - Series Review
Plot
Usually plots revolving around the life a hikikomori/NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) is filled and solely-dedicated to black humor which is to be expected and, more importantly, enjoyable. N.H.K., however, attempted to include the drama of said life and a bit of a romance which I would say, for the most part, was successful. As such, when I first started watching N.H.K. I was pleasantly surprised in how the show turned out from what I originally thought it to be.
Pacing
N.H.K. isnt without its share of flaws of course. In terms of pacing the drama depicting Satous (our main protagonist) hikikomori life and the obstacles he struggles through to change himself is great. The romance was a bit lacking, however. While in retrospect the character interactions make sense (particularly that of Satous) and fit within their respectful characterizations, the romance, while still relevant, didnt have as much impact compared to the struggles Satou had to overcome. I would hazard to say around 3-5 episodes had romance as the main driver. As such when the ending came focusing fully on the remaining romance plot felt semi-contrived.
Characters
Yamazaki. Best character. N.H.K., without a doubt, succeeds in the supporting character of Yamazaki. Too often in anime are side characters used as plot devices to progress the story and have little relevance in a main characters growth. Yamazaki is Satous growth, literally. Aside from best character, the other side characters are excellent in personifying the many hurdles Satou had to overcome during the show.
Misaki in particular is a character I felt that had a lot of potential. I personally love her character, however, her motivations and backstory were hinted at barely and only revealed during the last few episodes
(this also ties in with the pacing of the romance plot stated earlier).
Music
Enjoyable music all around. I especially enjoy the second ending theme and is one of the few anime-based songs I enjoy for the lyrical meaning rather than the sound of the japanese language. As for the background tracks they serve their purpose and emphasize the many moods of happy, sad, and dramatic well though are not particularly memorable.
Animation/Artstyle
I was actually surprised this anime was released in 2006. While there exists signs of age it doesnt detract from enjoyment of the show. And yes the show does use low-budget animation but mainly within comedic moments which fit quite well in that aspect.
Ending
The ending
was satisfying I suppose but it leaves you off wanting more, which as already having been 8 years since airing is not particularly good. Stated previously, the ending episodes (and the ending itself) centered around the particular romance subplot that has since been shoved away as background since halfway through the show and while it is nice to have been resolved, it didnt really leave an impact (even despite me loving the character of Misaki).
N.H.K. ni Youkoso! overall is one of the best animes Ive seen in a while. Pretty much recommend it to anyone from wake-up calls for young 20-something adults to an attempt at understanding the struggle people have with integrating into society. Very fun but at the same time very real.
Misaki was apparently a druggie and even more crazy in the manga but the anime toned her down into a really adorable sweet girl. I much prefer her that way.
This show probably made people cringe a long time before Watamote ever did.
I just check out Woofington's ban. No pity for him right there if he had bothered to check the front page that is full of slaughtering but instead he have to be a dumbass.
Yeah NHK is probably my favorite show of all time. You truly felt like a fly on the wall in this show since it captures the feeling of isolation really well. You spend soo much time cooped up in this little room that you forget that the show really doesn't take place in many locations and yet the atmosphere is amazing.
This was great. It followed up the previous episode perfectly, and bringing the other characters back into the fold is making the next episodes even more exciting. I really like how the show manages to have really nice looking action without extravagant or expensive animation. Smart choices in the layouts make scenes much more exciting without needing a ton of fluid motion. I love Vivi's new look. Hopefully she actually gets to use that sword for something cool instead of just posing in it!
Posting that "Niiiiice" image from South Park in a thread about a woman teacher having sex with an under aged student. It's looked down upon. In fact the thread he posted in a thread that was a duplicate and in the original one there was mass bannings for that very offence. So yeah, a case of lurk moar or whatevs.
Her change in design and purpose is my new highlight of the show.
Before she was just a snuck-up useless character in love with her commander
Now she is a half chaika with a sword and a desire to know the truth to finish the work of her beloved.
200% improvement.

Haha I actually purchased the manga for N.H.K., the third anime I've done for so far (the first being Strawberry Panic and the second being K-On!). I've heard it differentiates from the anime quite a bit so I'm looking forward to the new surprises within.
That's the ep when they climb to see the sunrise right? Candy shop is the best. Really like how they showed how she used to take care of Ren-chon as a baby. Did bring about some feels.
Just checked the opening for Parasyte and it looks cool, but I'm soo pessimistic about new anime to an unreasonable extent that I just shun all the new stuff without even trying. It's worked for me so far since I am more into the old stuff and prefer the look of older shows anyways and I've never been an all you can eat type of guy and like to stick to what I gravitate towards but I know for a fact I'm missing out on some good stuff. I've got such a huge backlog tho!
The complement Akari's uncertainty and Sumire's coolheadedness, the show needed a mood maker. Mood makers are always my favorite characters, and I can get behind liking Hinaki. That campus is so big, you're bound to run into a future star at some point. The Pon Pon Crepe girl episode has become a regular fixture of the show at this point, changing hands from Kii to Akari. Normally, I was thinking this would be the end, but since it happened to the main, it'll be one more episode of Akari trying to figure out how to sell these things. The change of heroines is working pretty smoothly so far, I am curious who that redheaded girl in the OP is, though.
Akane shows to have matured right from the start. The new girl they put with her isn't all that good while I like the new Ginoza.
I'm not sold on the new baddie though.
Other than that, kind of feeling like I want to cancel my CR subscription since I'm not really watching much anime anymore. Kind of feels like a waste atm.
This was one of my favorite episodes in anything the last few years. Just the amount of heart, cuteness and hilarity rolled into one episode is astonishing. Dat soundtrack and art too..
Misaki was apparently a druggie and even more crazy in the manga but the anime toned her down into a really adorable sweet girl. I much prefer her that way.
I am so, so happy that Parasyte continues to be good. I'm not a fan of Satomi's design but I'm holding out hope that her design may change later into the show like they're implying Shinichi's will.
Slight manga spoilers:
I hope they do Reiko justice. She's my favorite in a manga full of pretty great characters.
Detective Conan 324:
Heiji is so inconsiderate for Kazuha's feelings. It's kind of a running joke at this point. They just managed to get out of that tight spot due to his quick thinking. I think this is an enjoyable case in part due to the fact that Heiji does just about everything, with Conan only giving him a quick assist as part of his plan. The tension remains pretty high throughout most of the episode, and it's a pretty fitting way to ultimately stop the bad guys by using the code to hide another code.
Hi animegaf I have come here to share my love for anime with ya all.
I remember watching this show last year, and I completely agree with everything you said, this anime has a very strong message of how difficult it's to some people to fell accepted by society, and at the same time how difficult is to overcome those barriers that you create to "protect" you from said society.
Also... Long Live Yamazaki!
