I thought i was the only one that watched that, Ironman rise of the technovore is about as dumb as ghost in the shell.
Animu is why marvel animated movies sucks so much compared to glorious DC animated movies.

I find it funny that you were so adamant before this aired that "F/SN is actually good; people just hate it because of DEEN", and yet your episode impressions for the ufotable remake have pretty much all been "This sucks." Guess F/SN isn't so hot after all, huh?
People enjoy being offended and outraged and go out of their way to be.
Though as someone who has been genuinely enjoying Cross Ange, episode 5 was just bad.

I have my own reservations about the VN, the core of the narrative is good but it's suffocated by bad fluff. I've only talked badly about Ep. 2 and Ep. 4 because what I disliked in the VN was carried over into these two episodes. I really dug eps 0, 1, and 3 so no I haven't been shitting on every episode.
The DEEN tv series took a bad route and somehow made it even worse and the UBW film is a terrible summation.

I'll avoid critiquing the painful VN/harem elements of this episode because they're fairly obvious. There are two other major problems with the episode that stood out to me:
- There's a scene where haremette42 is talking to Shirou about archery. During this sequence Shirou has a Vietnam-esque flashback that's edited in the most awkward and clunky way imaginable. Just a tonal disaster.
- Right at the end of the episode Rin and Archey are trying to carry out a mission in what appears to be a completely different series. As a part of this 'serious business' scene Archi asks Rin what she'd do to Shirou if he fails to recognise his role as a master. Of course, she answers that she'd kill him and then BAM the episode draws to a close on this dramatic note.
Or, does it? Is that not, in fact, the least convincing thing for Rin to say? Who actually believes what she's saying, based on her own behaviour? It doesn't even sound like the VA has any conviction. You can't fill a story with harem nonsense and then expect us to actually believe that these characters are serious and determined when we all know they cant resist the allure of the main man because that's how all these stories work.

So even with my brain in a bit of a jumble watching this after spending the week going through the utterly fantastic
Fate route, I could tell this wasn't a very good episode.
- I finally noticed how terrible the faces are, they even change shape in different scenes at the same distance.
-Ilya bath scene, totally necessary.
-For a route that's supposed to be about Rin, I'm pretty sure I liked her character a lot more at this (relative) point in the Fate route. Here she's just a tsundere that totally doesn't have the hots for Shirou. In Fate she's mostly just a huge troll with fantastic facial expressions. Too bad ufotable can't animate faces, apparently.
- I guess hearing the words "you don't smile" is the trigger to Shirou's traumatic past, or something. idk
- At least Rin moving in with Shirou in the Fate route had a better excuse than trying to keep him from sleeping with Saber. I would think that a female teacher moving in with a male student would cause bigger problems but fuck that Shirou's the MC he has to have all the ladies want him.
-The fact that I'm saying positive things about the Fate route is a very, very bad sign.

I thought the episode was fine. I expected a lot worse going in. The "Why Don't You Smile" scene was a pretty big screw-up on the part of the director though.

Truly fitting for the tsundere route.
Fate/Stay Night is an incredibly long VN, and there's maybe...8 ero scenes in the whole thing, if that? If it was about the titilation, they do a pretty bad job of it by making the reader sit through ten hours of guff before they get to see cartoon boobies.
(Not to mention that Nasu really can't write porn)
Then I would argue that if it wasn't to some degree about the porn there wouldn't of been any ero scenes at all. Let alone 8.

Well considering there are versions of the game without any of the ero then I would say that you lose that argument.

Oh I know that. But the original game is the original game.
My point is the original source material isn't some masterpiece.
Its an eroge visual novel with a slightly better than average story.
But hey my opinion, your mileage may vary etc.
I won't deny that's part of the appeal of visual novels, but there's huge gulf between the nukige games that make getting to the sex scenes the main attraction, and ones where the scenes are bonuses used to show the progress of relationship, while everything else has non-sexy CGs and a story comparable to those in anime.
Something like 11eyes didn't even have its sex scenes on the various girls' routes until one has already played through the entire main story. Visual novels have more nuance to them than their HCG packs.
Pretty sure it was rewriting, stuff like Sakura's scenes were turned into bloodsucking or something.
They're all rewritten. Sometimes with CG dragons and dolphins, granted, but no porn!

I understand and agree with that, but it's not about the bone zone and all of those 18+ scenes are largely inconsequential.

I think the thing that annoys me most about F/SN is how schizophrenic the story telling is.
It wants to be this big serious story about mages fighting bloody battles to the death over this magical object, but then at the same time we have wacky school hi-jinks and harem bullshit.

Really it's the eye placement in that it's not as bad for the other characters.

I think there is merit to the Fate material. I really enjoyed Fate Zero for instance. It wasn't perfect but it was highly enjoyable.
But for some reason F/SN seems to get rated as this great, impressive thing, when it is really kinda average.
Which is a really long winded way of me saying I don't understand why it is so overrated.
It's on my to do list.

I can't say I give a crap about Karl and his
daddy issues but the scene of Mr Schubert finally finding out he's his son was pretty touching. Though I imagine that with Johan lurking in the shadows, that happiness won't last long.
The climaxes are fantastic.
I'm sure someone is going to interpret the above sentence sexually.
