DVD that came with Princess Mononoke is missing the literal sub track too. Figured they'd just repress the old one and jam it in there, guess not.

So according to a blog post here
When Miramax split from Disney, they took Princess Mononoke with them, as they were the official distributor in the US. It appeared the rights would be lost in legal limbo; fortunately, Disney quietly reacquired those rights a couple years ago, and reissued the DVD, with the blue-and-gold label. This was done with almost no fanfare, and, probably don't even know this release even exists.

and this blog post from 2011 says
If you've been holding off purchasing a copy of Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece Princess Mononoke, you might want to get on that soon. Disney and Echo Bridge, the former distributor of Miramax's library, have confirmed through separate emails that the anime classic is currently unlicensed in the United States.
which would explain how Disney could have swooped in for the license.

I remember reading about the DVD getting silently reissued a couple years back so I'm assuming the extra DVD in this is that which implies the literal track has been gone for a while (a really, really long while.) . Any chance its a rights issue with Miramax and Disney would have had to license that subtitle script to include in their current NA releases and just opted not to?

Akame Ga Kill 20

Wow this is a complete mockery, like even if you only watch the anime you had to be wondering "wait how did we get here" at the start of the episode when it feels like 2-3 episodes worth of content were just skipped over (and they were, more like 9-12's worth). This is another prime example of why filler anime endings are awful. Shura was handled so poorly it was laughable, combined with the handling of
Lubba's death
and what's even more bizarre is that
Susanoo is still alive
.

The first 18.5 episodes of this series are a fantastic adaptation of the manga, after that just stop. I'll suffer though the next 4 episodes just to see how this disaster wraps up, but I'm very disappointed.

Yea I'm not continuing with the anime. It is too radically different than the manga in some awful ways.

I think the biggest "what the **** were they thinking" comes in the form of last episode teased a Najenda vs Esdeath along with Wave vs Susanoo and Leone... and this week they're all just back at the capital like it didn't happen. The one rule this series has always had is when imperial arm users fight someone is going to die... apparently they all just got bored and went home after Borick was killed.

Thank you based KyoAni for delivering all this Sento goodness.

That Pirate Empress Sento (You should know what you're in for when clicking that) was god tier.

I didn't even know I wanted a Pirate Empress Sento until I watched the episode.

Very much looking forward to the next outfit they dress her up in.

Also, AV girl is solid 2nd or 3rd best girl right now.

The commentary thing was gold.

Full Metal Panic! - 1 Dub

So I'm picking this up again and starting over from the beginning due to a watchbet I recently made with Corvo (he's watching Fate/Zero).

I put this show on hold back in the day because, I don't know, I guess something about the show didn't really grab me at the time.

I'm starting over with the dub this time to see if a change in voice and language will change that, and I gotta say, it's a lot better than the sub. The English voices are enjoyable to listen to. On the episode itself, the hilarious juxtaposition of a military boy in a high-school life was one thing I remember liking from the little I watched of it before, and the dub certainly made it better. I hope it keeps it up.

Chris Patton Souske is best Souske. The dub in general is one the best ADV ever made, especially Fumoffu's dub.

Yona of the Dawn 7

Man this series sure does love it's set up, I can't complain as it's very enjoyable but I really want to get to the series having a bad ass warrior princess already. At least Yona has finally announced she wants to train to be bad ass warrior princess and we now have a plot reason to go find the other 4 pretty boys we see in the OP.

It's hilarous how they butchered Budo character in just one episode, way too much talk for a character like this.
But the worst was Lubbock. How he can't see a regular woman with a knife when his speciality is to mark his torritory, how he spend all his wires to make a place where shura can't move and suddenly can't use those wire to either attack or dodge or even save himself during the fall.
How suddenly his imperial arms stop working ( by breaking no less ) when we know that those weapons don't break easily since they are made of special material . Heck how the heck can lubbock have a limitation on wires ( suddenly no less ) when he was spending all this time with wires protecting the various night raid hideouts ( and still have plenty left for fighting at full strenght)

Don't get me started on syura and his doping drug that came out of nowhere.

Filler sucks

The doping drug at least is consistent with the series though, Bulat's former general friend who joined EsDeath used a similar item to power himself up and poison his blood to kill Bulat.

Filler sucks

I know that feel bro

Cross Ange 7

Sunrise clearly wanted to make a yuri hentai series about girls who fight dragons in mechs then go back to base to have crazy sex, only instead they were forced to have this plot about a magic continent and norma planning a revolt against magic people. I'd be very interested in seeing the original concept plans of Cross Ange back when it was an h series, for scientific reasons.

I also felt the need to point out more hilariously inept writing on the part of Cross Ange

Salia after having it pointed out to her that nobody has died since Ange took over the Villkiss (the super robot) had to go back and check her logs to realize in all her reports for the past two months every day was "zero casualties zero casualties zero casualties". This is fine and all, except for the fact that Salia's crew only has 7 people in it, why would you need to verify this information?

No Game No Life Episode 6

So we meet the Flugel, who is this two-faced ditzy/sadistic girl. No time is wasted and we jump into the game to decide who owns the library. I'm not really sure what was going on, but there was lots if crazy stuff happening and it was nice. Halfway through all the girls have to go naked (minus stockings and Stephs collar, who still has to act like a dog, just because), and we find out the shocking truth that no one has nipples.

Anyways, Sora wins in an awesome way using modern day knowledge of science and gets +1 to his growing harem. Good episode. Cute animal girl better be next.

bro, Norma life is so rough you can't even remember when the people around you live or die

or something like that

Really doubting the anime can butcher Budo's character when the manga has already seen to it.
They managed to make him talk too much.
At least his character was simple and to the point ..

See ennemy => dest-roy ennemy.
See to ally fighting , tell them to duel , THEN to go kill some rebels.

It was simple and efficient. he was a big guy at "before the final dongeon" level on the road of the characters ...nobody asked for anything else.
The doping drug at least is consistent with the series though, Bulat's former general friend who joined EsDeath used a similar item to power himself up and poison his blood to kill Bulat.
Always felt that the doping was a ruse to drop bullat guard and he wasn't actually doped. Imo he just went reckless to trap him ( with the poison ) ..heck the fact nobody used the drug afterwards reinforced that idea to me.

I find the sex part to be wholling underwhelming.

You can't stop the power of
tsundere
love! Except maybe with the power of
yandere
love.

bro, Norma life is so rough you can't even remember when the people around you live or die

or something like that

I mean between the yuri sex and the piloting of giant mechs to kill dragons I guess that totally makes sense how things like if my squad is actually alive or dead with me can fly by the way side

:p

Always felt that the doping was a ruse to drop bullat guard and he wasn't actually doped. Imo he just went reckless to trap him ( with the poison ) ..heck the fact nobody used the drug afterwards reinforced that idea to me.

I never said it was a great plot point, just that it wasn't the first time the series had such a concept. I pretty much agree with everything you're saying just pointing out that the anime team didn't pull the concept of injecting yourself for a power up out of nowhere it was used once in the series (poorly...)

I find the sex part to be wholling underwhelming.

It's actually kind of sad because the actual concept of magic human vs norma and mechs fighting dragons could have actually made for a pretty great series, but the level of trashy writing and over the top sex parts of the series completely kill that possibility.

Golden Boy 3

That man-on-man kiss was too hot. I'm straight and even I could see the passionate love between those two chaps. ;-D

Golden Boy 4

...I want to swim now. There are a few...variables at play. I want to see these majestic beasts at work. Mmmmmm, those fierce beast eyes.

Princess Mononoke

Told myself I'd wait to the BD to finally rewatch it and it was worth it, wonky subs and all. Expected them to be worse but they never seemed to stray too far from the DVD's literal translation track for the most part as I had that playing simultaneously. Donkey piss, Ashitaka sister shit, etc was in but meh, good enough.

I already explained the donkey piss part. It was changed for good reason.

Princess mononoke came out on blu ray? And Kiki's?

Where the hell have I been?

yeah. Check Amazon!

yeah Funimation said it's coming out in February.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee

What point?

I feel I'm wasting my time here as you're obviously not paying attention but the whole matter started with Zac from ANN saying Princess Mononoke had dubtitles with some minor adjustments rather than the literal translation present on the Miramax DVD. I mentioned the donkey piss thing as that's easily the most recognizable liberty that was taken when Neil Gaiman helped adapt the English dub script. The issue's even been brought to Gaiman's attention in the past as seen here:

GIA: A translator must often choose between adherence to the original source material and making material accessible to a foreign audience. When translating Mononoke, how closely did you adhere to the original Japanese words and sentences, and how much did you diverge to create "natural" sounding dialogue?

Gaiman: Wherever possible I tried to do both, but if given the choice I'd go for something that sounded *right* and worked for a western audience, rather than just a literal translation. After all, one has to take into account what impact the lines are having on a Western audience, and what impact they had on the original Japanese audience.

An example of this might be Jigo's first line. In Japanese it translates as "this soup tastes like water". It's a very insulting thing to say from a very coarse, crude, funny man. We made it "is this soup or donkey piss?", which matched the lip flaps and told you exactly who Jigo was.

The main thing was doing it with respect and with love.

You chimed in again to remind me you already explained something I've known for years in the most tangential way with how it was a good change despite the post clearly being about the issue with the subtitle track of today's release. I don't give two shits about how you or Gaiman felt about the dub track as it was non-existent to me until it intruded upon the subs this release. But yes, what point could have possibly been made in making posts about the issue a few weeks ago and revisiting it today? Surely none.

I still think this is just 'okay'. Nothing really makes me feel I need to watch more, and I don't particularly care much for the characters right now.
I will go for a few more episodes due to earlier responses, and hope it'll turn me around.

You will love Aoyama... promise...

My favorite part is that Cross Ange is so tangentially related to being about giant robots that basically I think Sunrise just wanted to make an anime about lesbian slaves.

I mean most of the time they just talk about the battles, or the battles are relegated to the very beginning or end of an episode, you know? Like they're just framing devices instead of main events. And although this episode had a big "fight" the moment it no longer mattered to the characters' drama, they ended it in a still of an attack rather than showing us a finishing move. It's shamefully bad.

Another one of my favorites, I love that the "criminal" got some divine retribution.
in a very sweet ironic twist if I may add :)

Sounds like the ultimate firehawk anime.

That feel when your whole science class failed an exam. 0 A's, 0 B's, 1 C, 4 D's and 27 F's I had the second highest score at 66%, fuck me.

I need some anime as soon as I get home.

Reminder that everyone who liked the chuuni guy in Trigger's show getting told should watch Aura: Maryuuinkouga Saigo no Tatakai, the one actual good chuunibyou story in existence. Featuring everyone's favorite overexposed seiyuu HanaKana and a Michiru Oshima OST.

OK I'm in. Next on my watch list.

Another good episode, I'd say. Seems like the humans lost all their land to the beastmen. We learn of Sora's conviction and Steph decides to entrusts him with an important key her grandfather left her, and we discover the old king may not have been as stupid as he seemed when we find a room with notes on the games he played and lost with the beastmen. I really hope we finally get to see these beastmen next episode. It's probably gonna be the season finale or something at this rate. Though an important question was left hanging in the air; where did the old king hide his porn stash?

Code Geass R2 2

He back, bitches.

I get that Britannia wanted to keep Lelouch alive as bait to draw out C.C., but I think they were better off just killing him. He isn't some ordinary guy; all the trouble he caused as Zero should have made that clear. Even if C.C. did reemerge, the chances that whoever she gave Geass to being of the same capabilities as him were slim.

Speaking of Geass, the emperor has it. He can supplant memories with false ones. Will be interesting to see how this plays a role other than with Lelouch.

And nobody knows where Nunnally is. She's probably already dead.

Hey, it's Nina.

Brah this is how I felt with Tokyo Ghoul's adaption. These days adaptions are just for advertising manga and in Akame Ga Kill's case it didn't help boost the manga that much. Probably why they are not giving a damn at this point, yeah it sucks.

Woo, so we finally get to see the warbeasts, and they have tons of cute animal girls, and this is just the embassy. And of course, the ambassador is a cute loli animal girl. Of course. Anyways, Sora pretty much unravels what kind of game the warbeasts play and their "mind-reading" ability. He also bets the entirety of the Imanity race against the warbeasts for an upcoming game, which is pretty ballsy. While waiting for the warbeasts to issue a date for the game, Sora mysteriously idsappears after telling Shiro he'll find the last piece to beat the warbeasts. He's probably gone to see Tet. And with 4 episodes left, it's pretty much obvious the game with the warbeasts will be the climax. I don't want this show to end. It feels too soon.

Im honestly not sure what you mean by dubtitles. Guess I will have to watch the new release and see what youre referring to. I dont know what a dubtitle is.

That is why I ended up reading the manga. I watched through the 19 episodes and read the comments about how it suddenly diverged from the manga for the worst. I tend to be more forgiving about it but after reading the manga I feel it is a huge disservice to the story with what they've decided for the anime. What a bummer.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 1

Behold, she was a reason why I wanted to watch this show. It's so simple, and yet very fucking appealing.

The other reason was a segment of Deep Love, which was pretty great. Anywho, Fuura here is clearly set up as a foil to our depressed and suicidal sensei, and so far, things are managing on my end. I do wonder about her mind though...

I'll be honest; I didn't quite get what was really going on. Felt a little too overly complicated. Sora could've chosen a simpler game and still have the same end result. But whatever, we get +2 waifus to his harem and one of them is an elf. I hope the game with the warbeasts starts next episode and isn't half as confusing.
