Well I would certainly agree that it's not in the best taste I can't really say it bothers me at all. I was far more offended by the swimsuit fanservice in the second episode. As I've said above, the show is apolitical and even anational, and even if such matters did offend me Rommel is hardly Hitler.

Well yeah, it's completely apolitical. But let's say you dressed up as Rommel for Halloween, even minus the Swastika, you wouldn't expect anyone to give you odd looks for that?
That said, I do remember that Paul Merton special where he visited Ireland and the Irish would rather cosplay as Nazis than as British officers because... well, they're Irish. Go figure. lol `
The nice thing about fiction is that reality's rules don't apply.

How else are you supposed to market a show called Penguindrum that's about, er, well, what is is about? I feel bad for those guys, they did the only sane thing which was slap "from the creator of Utena" up on the front.
Like how Utena had "from the director of Sailor Moon" on the original CPM DVDs.

not-Wakaba has all the physical and characters traits of Wakaba-prime, except with the added bonus that she's a teenager and not dead. That's even more improbable than the existence of there being another girl who looks just like Wakaba who happens to move in right next to Kou.
I'm struggling to think of why this storyline even exists. Is the idea simply to create a viable love-rival for Aoba because at this point there's no real competition for Kou's affections (if he were to actually display any). If the idea was to have a rival for Aoba then, well, write another girl into the story that Kou can get close to. That doesn't seem too hard.
The only other reason for having this storyline exist would be literally insert a Wakaba-clone into the storyline to see how other characters would react if she was alive today. That's just a stupid idea though, both in principle and execution. It doesn't add anything to show.
I'd almost prefer it if, in some totally insane twist, it was revealed that she was the real Wakaba and Wakaba never died. It would be extremely far-fetched but then again so is what we have right now.

Nah he's right. the show is so abstract its really difficult to market it.
Even people who have seen it and love it couldnt really find a representative image that makes sense to buyers.

I never noticed before, but the show does have a generic VN ost during normal bits. hmmm...

What's funny is the guy looking for revenge learns a little something about revenge but the person he accidentally took revenge upon is out for revenge himself so tries to hire J9 to enact some revenge on his own. His sister calls J9 out on their shit about being justice for hire and how they wouldn't have been been affected if J9 hadn't exited to begin with.

A mostly incidental villain from earlier in the series has his brother show up to get revenge for J9 killing him. Well, to be fair, they're the sons of the boss of the final remaining Earth Connection aside from Nubia. Pet sidekick shows up again too. smh At least it's used sparingly.

I think Poncho is in bed with the Nubia Connection too. He helped the kid wanting revenge borrow a fighter but it had a Nubia logo on it. The kid gets killed and the Nubia Connection takes the opportunity to start a war witht the Omega Connection for shooting down one of theirs.

I dunno, it's just matter taste I suppose. I also thought it was pretty weird that Valkyria Chronicles basically did the whole "Final Solution" thing with the Darcsens and how they were used as slaves before being killed. But at least that was using the Holocaust for cheap sentimentality rather than removing the meaning of the Holocaust entirely.
I know that people are already using 9-11 iconography in popular culture now. Whether it's walls full of photographs of missing family members or random firefighters walking into burning buildings, that's just fair game now. Hell, even Spielberg put the Twin Towers in Munich, so it's not like 9-11 is a thing people hold sacred anymore. I just wonder how long it will take before all that iconography loses its connotations and becomes fodder for reference porn at some point.
Like someone makes an anime about moe 747s or something and in one episode, a tsundere 747 decides to slam herself into a building because she's extra mad. I think at that point, I'll have given up on humanity though. Or the world will be in the midst of ending. Either way!
(Speaking of Spielberg, he also decided to stop using "funny Nazis" after The Last Crusade because he figured that was distasteful after, well, making Schindler's List and SPR... so even someone who takes the politics out of WW2 can change his mind later on).
I do that with Rightstuf, except some stuff got pushed back and so my orders no longer line up that way

I'm really disturbed by how you keep making this something about Rommel when there is no Rommel in the show. It's like making a false claim about something, and then when people argue with you about it, instead of addressing that claim, you spin the argument off to the discussion about the false claim as if it were factual, without feeling the need to address the fact that... it is a false claim.
There is no "Rommel worship" in the show, there is no Rommel cosplay in the show, there is no Rommel in the show. Rommel is never mentioned in the show ever, and there is nothing in the show which even suggests that Rommel is in the consideration of any part of the show.
So seriously, what the FUCK are you talking about?

That's pretty much the only way to make cakes even better.
The only explanation needed is that it was convoluted for the sakes of being convoluted. That whole plot set in the 80s wasn't even needed. In fact I'd say if they scrubbed it the show would have been better. Still rather mundane but at least it would seem focused.
Still doesn't explain why we felt giant monsters that kill everything would help save us from extinction. Oh wait I forgot. Men are evil bastards that's why.

It's not even delivering that. The only good thing about the most recent arc is tits, but even that will get old if the plot doesn't go anywhere. I preferred the episodic nature of the first arc frankly. At least it didn't take a whole episode to walk out of the town gates. You could do the opening of Majora's Mask faster than that.

A really great last episode. Had a lot of fan service in more ways than one. It's sad to see that the show is finally over. Well, there's still the OVA, but you get what I mean. Definitely one of my top favorites in recent years. It's hard to put the show into words, you just gotta see it for yourself to get it.

Gankyo > Tetora > Kukuru > Uzannu > Kigurumi > Mask

So it is time to bid these fair ladies adieu as the show comes to a close. Overall I'd say the show was enjoyable but the middle section always brought the show down. This final one was one of the few fairly entertaining middle sections if only because I knew about the place they were talking about and because my visit was very similar. (Yes I looked at home appliances while I was in Akihabara instead of window shopping for replica pantsu of anime girls. What about it?) But the bookend section more than make up for these middle parts and hey you can learn a little bit more about Glorious Nippon.
While there are quite a few referential jokes I don't feel they detracted from my enjoyment despite not getting most of them, but I should probably caution those new to anime that this show probably won't be your cup of tea. Jumping from Cowboy Bebop to this can only end in disaster.
Never quite reached the heights of Gintama but certainly one of the better comedy animes I've seen in recent times. And unlike most shows I actually let out some audible chuckles.
So to finish lets just say Purple > All and thank you kindly for your attention.

I also mentioned he shouldn't bother with this show. While it is a world where yuri is rife they never get it on with Marvin Gaye playing in the background (or at least an AKB48 cover).
