But Urasawa stuff sells as well as niche stuff liek Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei and Maria + Holic. I never thought it would be in trouble.

I think one major problem is that the Cowboy Bebop/Evangelion/Naruto/One Piece/Bleach anime wells are running dry so the companies are suddenly trying to stay afloat without a guaranteed cash cow. What exactly IS the current blockbuster in anime? Aniplex seems to hold the keys to that particular vehicle right now.

Manga in the US has shrunk a lot from before ever since the anime/manga bubble popped. This leads to less stuff getting licensed especially the longer running stuff that gets left behind because not enough people will read them. Of course this also leads to companies not licensing everything under the sun (ADV and Tokyopop), but it has become a lot harder for stuff to get brought over if one company passes on it since most of the major US companies have partnerships with the Japanese companies, so if they don't think it'll sell well, it'll probably never get released here.
Yeah, since Death Note, there haven't an exactly Anime that could sell gangbusters and to be fair, IMO, The quality have dropped dramatically since those days. Either that, or marketing of quality ones have been terrible.
Thats true but its only 13 episodes and two films. Evangelion is diffrent because it was the "Most Dangerous" stuff out there back in the 90's. Sony (Aniplex) dont have a stable TV partner yet otherwise i would be seeing Kybey toys selling out on black friday at TRU.

Yes, it is and so is Bakemonogatari but right now, thats the hot hand and Aniplex is very lucky to have both licenses. They are absolutely capitalizing on it as much as possible.

What kind of new audiences? Anime has attracted the audiences it will ever attract. It has enough variety to reach a large audience but the stigma of BEING anime keeps a lot of people from watching or buying any of it at all.
Again, perhaps you can list osme examples of how it can reach new audiences.

Viz releses tons of Manga on iPad, im also sure that their sublime line of Manga is on kindle, don't know for other stuff.
I like the us releases of Manga, we get artbooks occasionally (my tsubasa one, one piece colorwalks), omnibus releases of stuff with color pages (loveless, evangelion) and some hardcover Manga, that gundam origin one is coming hardcover.

They could have done visual flashbacks. That said, a lot of the information stated in dialogue was later twisted and used in visual flashbacks such as Kerry and his airplane antics.
