I can appreciate the quality in the craftsmanship involved in making a show like From the New World, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna rate it the best thing since sliced bread if I find it boring.

Anyway, where are the Jojo impressions? :(

Gonna watch episode three in the morning after work.

Chuunibyou, ep4

Moe overload.

The show is good and pretty funny, but it is really pandering hard to the otaku moe-love crowd.

I wonder if this show will ever take a turn for the more serious. I feel like there is some serious content to be had with this subject matter. If they keep pushing this hyper moe-moe stuff, i'm sure i'll like it; but they could take it to the next level if they actually take a slightly more serious tone for an episode or 3, and explore some deeper feelings these chuunibyou's experience (other than love).

Edit: Also, Theonik, if you're here, COME BACK TO STEAM CHAT!

Pretty great episode. Even the MC stopped acting like a pussy. There are even some mysteries... I hope it continue like this. :)

We're talking about KyoAni here... it's their market... the moe fanwank I mean. Too bad this is the direction their anime is going. =/

I can't. If it bores me, it's completely bad, and I feel bad about the wasted effort that went into it.

You can't say this when you haven't seen Hyouka.

Also K-ON is moe but it isn't fanwank.

I think one reason for the disparity between my anime preferences and some others here is because I judge an anime's worth by enjoyment rather than quality.

This is exactly how I've come to enjoy anime. Granted, I'm not as seasoned as you (or some other members) are - I've probably seen fewer shows than most people here.

Some shows which I've recognized as being of high quality (such as Fate/Zero), I simply couldn't enjoy. I have no rationale for this conclusion other than I just didn't enjoy it, despite thinking that I should enjoy it. How then, should I, or could I, possibly judge an anime that I feel this way towards. On it's merits? On my feelings? Then there are other shows like Code Geass which by all accounts finds itself to be mediocre in most technical areas. Yet I personally enjoyed myself watching this show more than I thought imaginable. I was entertained on a level that transcended its medium, despite numerous criticisms that I held in regard to its quality. They simply vanished in light of my enjoyment.

Though, I feel this way about hentai doujinshi too. There are several books I own that I consider to be of the highest quality, yet rarely bother to look at (like Hanaharu and Shiwasu). Then there are numerous books and artists of dubious quality that I enjoy far far more like Orimoto Mimana and Asaki Takayuki.

For me it's a feeling. But when quality and enjoyment collide that's definitely the sweet spot.

BOO!

So, the student council president seems to be mute or something. And that crazy science teacher lady can read her lips, I guess?

If the Amusement Club was so miserable hanging out in the tea house because of the heat, why didn't they... I don't know.. go home? Or at least all go to one of their houses that has air conditioning?

Oh, yeah, apparently there was a ghost posing as Akari. Hmm.

Kinda burnt out on writing impressions. Think that's enough animu for tonight.

The Parent's Association is pretty stereotypical but despicable nonetheless. Ryo's not taking the news about her father too well either. Since he taught her everything about baseball and is reliving his dream, she feels tainted. I got cliffhangered pretty hard too. smh

Yeah, Hyouka was a huge, and welcomed surprise.

K-On was great, and i do think it had its moments of 'fanwank', but it didn't seem like they were doing it on purpose...if you get what i'm saying. Like, they were oblivious to the level of moe they were about to create with K-On, so they didn't exploit it on purpose.

Part of the reason i didn't like K-On!! as much is because it seemed they were aware of the moe that made the show popular and built the show partly around that.

Chuunibyou is going full on in moe-'fanwank' territory.

K-ON is lovely. A rare display of walking that delicate line between delightful infatuation and subliminal fanwank. The moe moe scene with Mio does come to mind however.

Azunyan was made to masturbate over though.

God I love this show so much. It's restored my faith and love in KyoAni that I haven't had since Nichijou. The sister is a total jerk but its obviously also totally understandable. This show is so charming and fun to watch, its completely refreshing. It also reminds me of a certain period of my youth that I'm too ashamed to even remember about. Welcome to the darkside.

what

K-ON!! is super classy

Dropped on episode 3. Nothing, but cute girls doing cute things. I'm not into that, I've said several times here, I watch anime for storylines, mysteries, fights, comedy, anything. I don't care if their eyes are huge, if they mouths are triangular, if they pout... this is ridiculous.

K-On was about... a light music club were they didn't play and instead eat cake/pudding and talked about instruments. And beach trips...

They even had an objective. Too bad I wasn't entertained to see if they accomplish it or not.

Maybe after Chuunibyou (if I don't drop it before) I'm more resistant to drop these type of shows and try to watch it. After Hyouka, though.

I see what you're doing there, and you're wrong.

Haha. This is like a perfect encapsulation of what hito was talking about wrt cajun shutting down conversations.
To be fair, I don't think there's much meaningful discussion to be had over "I like these character designs" and "that's one of the worst character designers in the industry." Further, several other people replied to pizzaroll just fine. cajun shut down nothing. In fact, by posting an example of the character design in question he contributed more substance to the conversation than the simple "I disagree" posts that made up the rest of the replies to pizzaroll's post.

If anything, pizzaroll shut down conversation by turning the discussion about Haganai into more pointless "my opinion > your opinion" blathering.

Finally, I don't think cajun is going to suddenly stop being cajun, so if you guys don't appreciate his posts, then you should probably ignore him as he suggested.

Hyouka is the best KyoAni show.

Hands Down.

I rarely see Hyouka praise, so gifts:

CommieHyouka-1546AD925013.gif

I sort of mentioned it before, but
the fact that the entire struggle of Yuuta locking Sanae in the cabinet happens offscreen and that the scene transitions instantly
makes it a thousand times funnier.

Yeah! I liked the part where she smirked - so mischievous

Hyouka 19
Finally starting to like Chitanda. entertaining episode despite not much happening.

OH GOD NO, WAIT, HOLD THE PHONE.

I take back my recent statement about hyouka being the, "hands down", greatest KyoAni show.

That was an extremely near sighted statement.

Nichijou is, by far, the greatest thing to be produced by that studio.

I apologize for my egregious mistake. *Bows*

Now that's a show that routinely gets shit on in this thread.

I love both Nichijou and Hyouka but the latter edges it out slightly for having an amazing second half to an already enjoyable show.

You are a good person.

Although my personal favorite is Clannad:AS. From now until the end of time, one of my favorite shows ever.

I love Nichijou but Hyouka is better - more consistent in its quality and with strong, series-spanning character development.

Nichijou might be their best show if the comedy was as consistent as the animation. As things stand, Nichibros was far funnier despite 1/10th the budget.
