I don't get it. Didn't Jimmy Fallon do the news section on SNL where they basically made political jokes nearly all the time? Why would he not be comfortable?

because your argument is garbage and you act like your smarter than everyone else

it's annoying
Well I know I'm not smarter than everyone, but I'm certainly smarter than someone. I can't be the dumbest, can I?

You are one of the people who spend their time attacking how my points are presented as opposed to the points themselves, just like someone who discredits the value of a point because of grammatical errors. Do you know why people do that?

Because they don't know what to say.

SNL handled it a bit differently than how politics are talked about in late-night.

On SNL is was humor under the guise of a News Report, so it was all stiff and formal, like a real news report. That's part of what makes it funny, in a sense. The writers also format the humor to match that tone. Something closer to this would be John Olivers setup, though he breaks from it often like back in his Daily Show days.

With the late-night shows, you have to be much more personable in how you handle the jokes. Colbert has been doing this very well over the past few months, all the while blending his older Report writing style back into his more natural composition.

How about actually contributing something

I offered an opinion on Fallon, you know, the person this thread is about.

You, on the other hand, have "contributed" nothing but hypocritical mental masturbation.

But please, tell me more about how you think I should contribute to a thread about how Jimmy Fallon's ratings have tanked.

Pretty fast and loose with "comedian" there.

That clowns vs talkers debate is interesting, but doesn't really work as an absolute when you have someone like Conan who does both.

Maybe not either as well as each of them (although I prefer his physical comedy to Fallon's impressions), but he's incredibly smart and quick-witted.

The problem is when he's talking to people he clearly doesn't respect or care for he can't fake enthusiasm. His unscripted bits are head and shoulders above everyone else imo.

Such a bizarre thread.

Colbert gets more viewers for 5 weeks (but apparently loses the 18-49 demo) and Gaffers act like Fallon is about to get shamed off the air.

I came here to post hateful garbage and pretend that I'm better than other people, and I'm all out of hateful garbage.

i shudder at the thought of fallon attempting political jokes

So have you guys heard of this Donald Trump guy? *laughs for several minutes*

Tonight's guests are...

Eh, give it a week. Some clip of him and Dick Cheney lip-syncing to Tupac will go viral, and he'll be back on top for another year.

That's what I figure too. Five weeks isn't all that impressive in the grand scheme of things, which is why I take the report in OP with a grain of salt.

So yea just had the tv on and fallon came on with a lame ass trump skit. It was horrible and unfunny. Course it looks like a repeat. So if that's the level of his Trump jokes we can expect he's gonna tank hard.

Fallon is awkward, cringe worthy, not funny at all, and survives on the back of celebrities doing stupid PR stunts.

Interviews are terrible and Everytime he goes for a more sober question or segment everything falls apart because of his lack of knowledge or carisma.

I'm glad Colbert is on fire.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I disliked Fallon before any of the Trump fellating, which by the way should have surprised nobody. He's always been bland and insincere and OH SO EXCITED ABOUT EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE. Gosh, you're just my favorite person in the whole wide world and you're so funny and aren't we so friendly and happy?

I miss Letterman's barely disguised contempt. Conan's self-effacing absurd wackiness was a lot more effective before he went to TBS (although he still has his moments).

Never liked him on SNL given he ruined so many sketches and jokes with his uncontrollable laughing. Cute at first and easy to laugh along with, but after occurring literally every single time he is on camera every week it became grating and insufferable to the point I refused to watch him. I will give him credit for his impressions though, some real talent there.

There has been a lot of talk about whether or not we are in the darkest timeline right now, but for me it will only be truly confirmed when Jimmy Fallon rebrands himself as a political comedian.

Here's the problem. Colbert will always win (always) when politics is at the front end on the late night business. The man who can come close to it is Conan. When it's all sunshine and rainbows, Fallon and Kimmel will rule, and all the political comedians are going to sink.

Conan is the all-rounder (after Furgeson) as late night king who will be amusing in every political condition in the country.

Fallon being trash and Fallon being non-political are two seperate things that a lot of people seem to be tying together.

Johnny Carson made a point to never mention the Vietnam War. He's still the King of Late Night.

Sounds like the King of Hot Garbage. Apolitical is a political stance that errs toward fascism.

I have trouble watching anything Fallon without thinking back to how embarrassing his Golden Globes hosting was. Used to be I might watch a skit on YouTube, but since then, I can't. Cant even watch the bad remake of Taxi.

I never expected Fallon to be political, so I haven't been surprised that he hasn't been. Jimmy is a goofball who wants to make people happy. He wants everyone to like him. It's part of why I find his comedy so boring, and why I've always chosen others to spend my late night with. Beyond the occasional song parody or lip sync contest, I've never found him to be a particularly interesting comedian or interviewer.

His inability to read the zeitgeist and respond to it doesn't really surprise me, either. He's been stuck in the 90's since the 90's.

So the idea is to try to outdo Colbert in the political satire arena? Good luck with that. Colbert is so far out of his league that I'm surprised they didn't ask for less politics to avoid the comparison.
