If you're using this: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/6938, maybe try installing the FWE patch if you haven't already? It's the one called RH IronSights - FWE Bridge in the downloads section.
Yup, general Fallout 3 folder. Don't uninstall anything yet, there's no reason why it shouldn't work on the Steam folder.
Disregard that video, it's pretty old and needlessly complicated.
Installing mods is very easy and shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
Simple steps:
1. Download the mod (preferably as a zip/rar or a FOMOD)
2. Fire up FOMM and go to the package manager
3. In the package manager, click on add new (as FOMOD) and select the zip/rar/FOMOD. It should add it up to your list in the package manager.
4. Select the added mod and activate it.
5. Close the package manager and you should see the mod in the load order list just below the Fallout3.esm, etc. It should be ticked.
6. Use BOSS to sort your load order (click on load order, and it should be last on the dropdown list). It's not perfect, but 90% of the times it works.
Those instructions apply for most cases (I'd say 90% of the mods are installed that way), but not all. You should always try to do a quick search for the readme and see if there are any special instructions. Usually they have a manual installation section, if it says there that you should grab all the files and extract them in the data folder, then the instructions I posted above will most likely work. If for some reason something doesn't go as expected, installing mods with FOMM or NMM makes it really easy to uninstall them and avoid screwups, so no big worries there.I just got a PC and am starting my first trip into modding both FO3 and NV. Should the above work for any mod that's out there? I've read a few mods instructions and it didn't make it sound this simple and I'm a poor console plebeian with no experience in this. Thanks so much in advance.
Yeah, both FWE and PN can get simply un-fun since pretty much everything kills you in one hit. I usually play in normal with those installed and I'm pretty ok, but there should be some tweaking capabilities to FWE, if I recall correctly. I'm sure things like fast travel had an in-game toggle...I really need to edit some settings in FWE and MM.
I really enjoy some of the difficulty, but a lot of it is fucking ridiculous. Getting to Rivet City is impossible because the Jefferson Memorial and that plate thing have over 10 mutants each, and ammo is so damn rare.
Heres to hoping I can find a happy medium. I don't want it too easy, but this is just too difficult lol. The packs of like 15 raiders are hard too.
Always happy to help a fellow nobleman stand on the heads of the lowly scumzkylon, you are awesome. I did exactly what you said and it worked. I now feel equipped to look at the console peasants and talk snarkily about resolutions.
Few questions for the smart people:
1. For FO3, should I get the disable windows live mod? I never use it, just didn't know if it was needed.
2. I'm planning on getting the project butification mod, but are there any other mods for the characters that make them look better for both FO3 and NV? I see a few of the "Type 3" mods on there, but all I can tell is they make the character look different naked. Is there something that makes everybody look better clothed?
3. Any additions or subtractions from the OP list that are really good? I've beaten FO3 and New Vegas before on my PS3 (pro tip, don't buy fallout for your PS3), so I'm open to any suggestions.
Yes, the PN Rebalance module is totally worth it. It actually fixes the typical Bethesda backpedaling thing, because it makes backpedaling speed slower than your enemy's chasing speed.Hi guys,
I'm starting NV and already installed some mods like the nevada mod and the texture mod. Already makes the game way more fun, it's amazing how huge the difference is just beaucse of the sprint function. The vanilla NV probably isn't a game worth playing...
So does anyone know if the rebalancing function of the nevada mod is worh it? Should I activate it? So far I find the game rather hard however the fighting system is kinda dull - move backwards and shoot. Is there a mod which fixes this?
Also the game is almost a bit too colorful now...and at night or when I'm hurt I can't see shit. Any fixes to that?
I also installed the weather mod. It works but is it supposed to change the weather automatically? Because it doesn't.

Which weather mod are you using? Nevada Skies? URWLfied or not? If you think the game is too colorful, you're probably using URWLfied. Try the regular version, it's a lot better IMO.
It's not that much harder, but it's does make the game somewhat more challenging. I'd suggest playing the game on Normal and with the PN Rebalance module. It'll make useful loot like stimpaks, chems and ammo rarer, so scavenging and conserving ammo will be a little more interesting.OK I'll try the regular version thanks.
Does the regulation make the game much harder? I already do think it's hard and enemies rushing you totally mindless...I don't know why they didn' stay true to the original fallout battle formula.
Also what about the weather, doesn't it change automatically?
I thought Dog City Denver was pretty decent as far as new areas are concerned: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/41751. No new monsters or items, but it's a new experience, based on content gotten from the Van Buren leaked design docs. The guy is working on a second mod in the same fashion for Boulder City Dome like it'll be amazing. So has there been any big mods to come out after AWOP? I heard about Angel Park, but I'm a bit wary about downloading it because the monster pack mod comes with it (some of the new monster designs creep me the fuck out).
I'd like to really try some mods that add new areas and weapons.
Any GUI mod if you haven't already should be your priority number one. Other than that, the OP is a pretty good list and if you want something more, just backtrack a bit through the thread and check out my previous posts. Thanks a lot zyklon. Actually I think I don't want the game to be more challenging, well, I don't want to search around a lot. I don't know, maybe it's just the engine, but even after all those mods, the game kinda feels "empty" or "without soul". It's hard to describe. I had the same problem with all of those games like FO3 or Oblivion etc. - it's just me.
Any other mod I need to try besides the skies and PNV and HD Textures? Oh, I'm also using the weapon textures mod.

By the way, it's zkylon, not zyklon![]()
Do the usual:Hey, I installed some more mods like you suggested (advanced shaders, hud mods, gui mod the ones from page 1) and now my game isn't loading anymore. It just shows the loading screen and nothing happens anymore. I need to force close it then. Any idea?
Well, now it isnt working at allynmore even if I delete all the other UI mods and it tells me that "content is missing" before I try to load a game and it goes into an endless loop. It's a bit annoying tbh.
Well, I got it working again somehow, just don't ask me how. ;D I tried so many things and it seems to work now. Even ahud is working though on the screens it looks like they actually had a smaller hud but I don't find a way to resize it, just to rearrange it. Also Project Nevada adds a "dynamite" icon which you can't move using ahud, so the whole thing is pretty much useless...![]()
It's working again, once again, dont ask me how. Inbetween I had the fast traveling bug. I installed the save mod and disabled all ingame saving, that helped. Man what a mess, I invested more time in configuring than playing.
That uHUD link isnt working. Is it unified hud? I installed that but I thought all what it does is merging several hud mods into one.
Nope. Like I said before, if you haven't already, try to find out which mod is breaking your game by deactivating them all, then activating them one a time, testing them, etc. The error probably isn't a random error (as in, it's unexplaineable or unfixable), but a mod conflicting or malfunctioning randomly. So it's random. It's sometimes not loading my latest save but the one right before it (usually 3 minutes). Nothing significantly changed inbetween. Any ideas on that?

Yeah, pretty much. It's less mandatory than FWE, but not by such a long stretch. What is everyone's thoughts about playing Fallout New Vegas the first time with Project Nevada? I personally would not hesitate to recommend FWE the first time playing through Fallout 3 because Fallout 3 vanilla is so boring and easy. Is this also true of FAllout New Vegas vanilla?
Wow, they still have not fixed the "file does not exist" bug in Nexus Mod Manager. Really frustrating for such a promising piece of software.
I have to be completely honest, NMM is great for Skyrim (at least for me) but has always been pretty terrible when it comes to FO. Since a big chunk of mods have designed themselves to be installed with FOMM, you lose a bit of installation assistance. Also, a few of the FO mods require a bit of manual tinkering that the Skyrim mods don't require.
Different strokes I suppose, but I'd use FOMM for FO and NMM for the other applications it supports.
vareon, have you downloaded the compatibility patches? There should be one that you can install that makes FWE, MMM, and Project Beauty all play nice.

Hmm, this game is on sale on Steam as we speak.
But do buy it. It's the best RPG in many years.Wait for daily deal or the last day or buy bethesda bundle
I want to continue my save from where I left off but I want to do a clean install with newer/better versions of the mods. I saved in NV, is that ok?
Usually you'll be fine unless you're in a mod area, though you should prepare for some jankiness.I want to continue my save from where I left off but I want to do a clean install with newer/better versions of the mods. I saved in NV, is that ok?
