Guys - just in case anybody missed it, there is a full cover system in the game.

Lean against a wall and look down the sights. You lean around the object automatically. I just tested, it works perfectly.

hit Diamond City at the 20 hour mark (give or take), quest log is starting to pile up

just how I like it

I have a sidequest with some super mutants that I just cant do, I die way too fast and get sniped with rockets and shit. Im chalking it up to low lvl for the first time and Ill go there later

does anyone know if you join the
brotherhood of steel
if that messes with the minutemen stuff? im still doing all the settlements (even tho
I can go raid "the castle" if I want to
) but I remember when Preston was with me he was all bitchy about me joining the
brotherhood
.

(I dont know why im spoiler tagging that, its like spoiler tagging Diablo in a Diablo game but ok)

WTF?!?!, Easy way to get the Cryolator!

LOL. cant even get mad at that :D

Anyone done a settlement defense yet in Sanctuary? I'm trying to figure out my settlement and i'm not sure if all the raiders etc attack from once location (the bridge) or if I need to build defenses all around the town (like on the pathway leading up to the Vault).

I just built two sentry posts and two turrets seems enough for my small town

Not sure if I should be mad at best buy for not sending it out earlier, or the post office for being slow as hell.

Everything goes good for years then all of a sudden you get a game that you won't receive till at least 2 days after. I was okay with the day after, but two days? the hell :/

Thankfully I saved $16 via preordering else I'd be mighty pissed right now and wondering why I preordered.

All the Fallout games have been flawed despite what some folks like to remember. Lot of imbalanced game mechanics, perk balance all over the place, difficulty/combat encounters were all over the place. They are often sloppy games that just are still fun.

Fallout 2 was a huge mess of a game at launch, major bugs galore that needed several patches to fix, and even then bunch of glitches still remain to this day in the game. The game balance in FO2 was one of the worst in the series, tons of moments where suddenly you could get killed in one shot by a lucky crit, or some stupid AI would do something like wipe out half your party with friendly fire crit. Random encounters that were essentially instant death... hope you saved!
How dare you disrupt peoples' nostalgia goggles!

I only got a chance to play few a few hours last night.

Just the updates to the looting and shooting make this game amazing. It's like night and day with the previous games.

I had just enough time to ignore the main quest and wander south into an area I never should have been in and got reckt. Good times.

Trying to build a house is so frustrating. I always leave gaps in the structure, or the doorway is uneven, or the walls won't attach, like fuck.

The health penalty idea, what do people think of it? I think it's shit and has no place in any game.
Makes radiation actually something that has an impact and you have to manage, a reason to care about doctors and anti-rad stuff, and makes perks like Lead Belly appealing. It also makes cooking awesome whereas I can't imagine I would have touched it if radiation were negligible.

Kotaku showing us how to break the game

Unsure why you'd do this instead of just spawning it in the console if you're going to glitch it. Idk, seems really pointless...

(Unless you're on console and don't want to play through it without shortcuts, *shrugs*)

You can't manually scrap junk, just transfer to workbench and it's scrapped as it's needed.

You store them in the workshop and the game will automatically break them down when you need the parts inside them when crafting items.

Just saw this on Reddit:

"If you use an item with multiple components to craft something else, it will destroy the other components not used in the process. For example if you were to use a gold watch as a gears component, it will destroy the gold. However, if you break the watch down beforehand, you get all the raw materials."
.
For those of you curious how to break down junk, you can drop it on the ground in a settlement and scrap it in builder mode. It can be tedious, but you don't waste precious materials like screws.

This was debunked. The gold component is still there in your example. Tried this earlier. You just don't see it anywhere but it's there.

I'm tempted to use those glitches, but at what point do I just say fuck it and give myself all that junk using console commands? If I'm going to be a cheat I may as well make it easy, but I won't.

No, this has been confirmed to be incorrect, you do not have to manually scrap stuff, it appears there is an issue at the moment where the rest of the materials enter a "limbo" state and you can't see them, but they are still useable while crafting.

It's hardly gamebreaking, it uses ammo which isn't really very available until you're a good 10 hours in, and the Cryolator runs through ammo fast. You'll get about 7 or so good good uses out of it.

Also you could always just pop the console open on PC, click the display case and type unlock.

Really? That seems like a really stupid oversight. Good to know.

^ It's false like was mentioned already. There's just a delay between the automatic scrapping and getting the items into your stash; you can always test it yourself in some smaller settlement (with no pre-existing mats) if you're too paranoid to believe internet talk.

Anyone met any interesting looking NPCs yet? ie not average height, slim build.

Yeah I've seen some chubby
vault dwellers
.

Uh
Thats my point >_>
I personally am not a fan of doing that, kinda feels against a lot of the point of the game, as in messes with my experience just grabbing the best thing at the start with no effort. Some people don't care, some do. For me it depends on the game.
(I never broke fallout but pretty sure I broke oblivion to hell lol)

And console commands isn't a valid argument, I mean, why do anything then :V

Soo yeah, I find glitching thay way comparable to just modding the gun in, neither took any effort to get and gets you it early :P

I think there are other instances where mats enter "limbo" state, I don't think you can see shared items from other settlements (with the perk), even though they are there and available to use in crafting.

I think there will be fixes for the crafting system.

Go to the map, hover over the waypoint and press X or A depending on which console you use, you can then Remove it.

Still there, must be a glitch or something which is very annoying.

Now I've lost Piper too, she ain't at any of my settlements lol
edit- nvm, she went back to diamond city for some reason instead of where I told her to go

So I clicked on the "you're special" book in the intro and my character voiced a line but I was unable to distribute another point to SPECIAL. I'm about to leave the vault and I still don't have that extra point.

Glitch or am I misunderstanding what that book does?

You need to revisit your house.

What do I do with duplicate weapons? Can they be broken down in to anything? Or just sell them?

You get it when you go back to your home after leaving the vault.

It only works after the tutorial sequence (including the vault) is finished. The book'll still be there 200 years later. :P

Scrap at weapons workbench or sell. I've stashed mine until I get the second rank of Scrapper for maximum profits.
