Any surefire ways to get good karma like the bums begging for water in FO3? I want to play a good guy but I also like to steal shit.
Killing Powder Gangers has been pretty much my only source of good karma.

Dude, seriously? I hear ya on the strip being a bit anticlimactic, but Rivet City? It was just a big boat with a market, some hotel rooms and that museum. I hated going there.

It was cool the first time but good god it got tedious to go through that place when you were looking for a specific person. So many copy and pasted rooms and loading screens. I wasn't blown away by the Strip, but it's a much more interesting place for me.

Working my way through Fallout 3 GOTY (in search of vault 112), and the writing is not very good, but the main problem is the characters explain too much. I usually skip the last line in a block and miss nothing. I'm surprised the developers didn't figure that out early on, it would improve the game a good bit.

Guess Obsidian didn't quite learn from Bethesda's verbosity, they just made it more interesting. Glad I only recently got in F3, that way I can wait for FNV GOTY and at a discounted price. But I will say I'm liking 3 more than 2, though the original is still the best. Don't know how I'll react to NV when I get around to it.

Holy shit, having a companion affiliated with a group when you interact with the group actually helps! Colour me shocked. :lol

So I got to the NCRCF and spoke to Dawes, paid the 100 Caps and he still attacks the shit out of me when I head for the door.
Is this a glitch?

Not an asshole.
Finding it kinda frustrating with the enemies. On my way to Mojave outpost I had to battle my way through 3 mutants, 7 scorpions, and 5 wasteland douchebags. By the time I got there I was crippled, half dead and running low on everything, only to receive no help from the douche Knight that I came there for in the first place.

Feels purposeful to a large extent. You have so many characters talking up New Vegas as this pillar of excitement, mostly based on reputation, but when you get there you find it's no less run-down and desolate than any other area.

They also can't populate the towns and such with too many NPCs - there's an engine limitation there. It was the same in Oblivion, a setting that should naturally be far more populated than a post-apocalyptic one.

Yeah, at least the Gamebryo limitations work in the Fallout universe. There shouldn't be that many people. Remember getting to the captial city in Oblivion and there was like, 10 people walking around in each sector. That was disappointing, to say the least. :lol

This game only has like three songs. Normally that bugs the hell out of me, but I've come to embrace it because it only needed one:

"Big Iroooooon, big irooon!"
Console, right? i watched the streams from before launch and they all had Jingle Jangle Jingle, Johnny Guitar, and Big Iron constantly. Since watching PC streams there are a bit more songs that play.. Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole and more.

It seems like there is either a bug thats keeping the same few songs in the playlist or its just chance.

Been playing it all day and still haven't set foot onto the strip because I've been too busy doing the side missions.

Aside from the crashes I'm really enjoying the game so far.

Wow, I've been in three vaults, and they've all been amazing, especially
11. Holy crap at the tunnel of light bit with the music and the end event. Shivers!
This is some top notch design work, Obsidian. You're absolutely forgiven for the multiple console crashes I've had just today :lol

Take a look at the cover of the Avellone comic in the collector's edition to see how New Vegas should be.

I think it does, just slowly. You can get something to help with that, BTW.

Yeah, tried it but no dice. It's a few years old but was still going strong until a month or two ago when it stopped posting, but I've been housesitting so I didn't have time to do anything about it then. Pretty sure it's just died, after I put everything back together and flipped it on for one last try it started emitting a nasty burning smell :\

Not on hardcore.

On a side note, my play style is not very companion friendly. I think I'm going to have to send my friends away so I don't have to do as much "oh darn I blew him apart again" reloading. :lol

Again, engine limitations, but it's not utterly nonsensical that New Vegas wouldn't exactly be this bustling, vibrant town within the context of the game. It's not something I found that jarring and it doesn't approach the emptiness of most places in Oblivion and Fallout 3.

Eh, I haven't even been there yet. I just thought you might be interested!

I really want to see what Bethesda does for their new engine. Does id Tech 5 handle large crowds? I haven't read up on Rage.

My last reload was actually pretty funny, because it wasn't the blast that killed him, but the impact on his return to ground level. :lol

I'm curious to check out Avellone's comic later on. I wonder how good it is.

Dunno, but it clearly handles large open spaces very well. Nobody wants Bethesda to use Gamebryo for their next game but it appears the creakiness shall stay with us.

Thank you fellas, I am on hardcore.

I have not really left the starting down since I have been really busy with RL, but not that the weekend is here, I am fully committed to making this the first Fallout game that I beat.

Also, which mods are y'all using?

Backtrack your path around the Casino, they probably got stuck somewhere. It happened to me about a dozen times, it's a real pain, Rex especially seemed to get stuck a lot. But if you find them, you can tell them to follow you again and fix it.

I had so much fun making my own fun today. I spent about an hour trying to take out some annoying bodyguards by throwing dynamite and frag grenades over one of those "this rubble is here to tell you this isn't a path" areas. :lol

I think I ran into a quest bug. I started
I Don't Hurt Anymore, where you're supposed to convince one of the First Recon members to seek medical treatment. However, I didn't talk to her before starting talking to their Lt. and having them sent off to help me take down a Fiend. Now she just says, "Quit talking, we have a job to do." They've already been redeployed to Camp Forlorn Hope and are just standing in a circle doing nothing.
Anyone else have that happen?

There have been patches, and more to come.

So I fast traveled to the East Freeside gate and my companion just starts sprinting south, way faster than i've ever seen anyone in the game move. No chance of keeping up with him. I have no idea where he is now, or why he did that. :lol

Big time GLITCH:
I go through HELIOS ONE and exit via the back. As soon as I exit the door, Old Lady Gibson with a rifle and her army of dogs are fighting two Mole Rats. How the heck did she magically appear there? LOL! She eventaully walked off and disappeared but the dogs remain.

Somehow I failed one of the missions where I killed everyone in that NCR Correction Center. Glad I didn't save

For the most part, the two patches that have been released seem to fix at least one big problem (saves) and with the performance tweak (.dll) you should be good to go. That is, if you're talking about playing on the PC.

You can find a lot of useful information in this thread about performance tweaks and some mods that you'd probably want to start the game off with, especially if you're considering a Hardcore play-through.

That being said,

Ya Witcher's strength is off the C&C system. I still need to beat it :(

MotB and Bloodlines deserve it, though. System Shock 2 is a little different as well.

It has strong character writing even without direct conversation. And I dont think The Witcher is laughable, especially for a translation of a EuroRPG

Also Betrayal at Krondor has good writing behind it. As do the Ultima games (especially for their time), though there its more thematic rather than character based or plot based.

I've just seen it in pictures and its jarring. New Vegas is probably the biggest settlement for miles. Its engine limitations but its still sad that isnt "as it should be."

I mean very few RPGs actually do believable cities or large towns. Its resource intensive stuff and often gets limited by engines.

Thats why fleshing out a smaller area might work in more RPGs favor if they could ever get away from the idea that the epic quest needs to drive them.

Agreed.

About the only thing about the game that is laughable are the tasteless sex cards.

Oh man, the choices at the end of "That Lucky Old Sun" quest. I wanted to
give power to the whole region
, but
Archimedes
sounds so much badass. In the end, I chose the latter. I'm kinda regretting it now.

On another note, does equipping Ed-E make a difference?

other than that ive been going dolo the whole game. where are you guys getting companions? not that i want one, just curious

How hard is it to add a little variety to the stats, I mean come on.
