There is an arrow indicator showing you the way, you know.

Yeah I know but it gets confusing when I'm multiple levels down and there are winding stairs above. (and I've also been up for far too long) Thanks though!

Seems the .dll is causing my game to crash, even though it worked perfectly fine last night. Guess I'll have to put up with the terrible performance.
Do you have Xfire running? That was causing my game to crash with the dll.

If you want it to continue tracking your time, open up "Detect Games", and turn off the "Xfire In-Game" option

I seriously thought I had only played about 4 hours today (1 hour yesterday).

I seems I've been playing 10 hours total, 9 today. I guess that's how it got so dark outside so quick.

I am hooked on this game and the story where I am at so far has been great. To be honest I'm a little surprised that I like the game as much as I am.

Haven't had any major problems either. Nothing like what Jeff said in his review at Giant Bomb. I guess what he said that "if it weren't for the game's way-too-long list of technical issues, New Vegas would actually be better than its predecessor" is true.

Cheers, but I found this on another forum earlier. Blasted some Geckos and ran into some mines.

I just cleared Vault 22.

I previously used speech to ensure maximum payment from both the doctor and his assistant for both parts of the quest, then I retrieved the data from the vault before rescuing Kelly. After which I helped her destroy the spores in return for money, and then I lied about the data being copied. I returned to collect handsome rewards from both parties, keeping everyone happy while dangerous research falls into the hands of the NCR. Can't say I care though, if they fuck it up and turn into plant monsters, they had it coming! :lol

I shot the helper lady, killed her and then her dog killed me

7/10, a worthwhile experience, would recommend to friends and fans of the genre

Any reason why I should bother having good Karma?

I really want to loot everything in sight, but I do not like that I get punished for it.

Loot away! You barely lose any karma for looting, and the small amount you do lose will be regained quickly doing other good stuff. That is if you actually care about having good karma...

I've been neutral the whole time so far so I can't say how big of a difference it will make in this game.

Cool.

One last question: What about notoriety?

During one of my test saves, I robbed most of Goodsprings blind and it said I gained notoriety within the town.

Just a heads up for those of you around the Mojave Outpost area, I walked back there today and traded with the merchant (he has a mercenary and cattle with him) and the game crashed both times I tried to complete the transaction. I'll get a picture of his entourage but your NPCs are undoubtedly going to look different.
What level are you? I can't even get to that Outpost, without this
Feral Reaver
charging out of the mountains and disemboweling me. I'm guessing it's impossible to navigate that area at level 5. :(

Where exactly do I get a safehouse? Where should I be heading to get one? Try to keep it as spoiler free as possible, though if I need to do something specific, tell me! :lol

I don't like the way they are trying to contain me in certain areas by spawning really strong enemies. Just got to level 6, at Novac. Anyone been crafting some cool weapons? I never bothered in FO3 but I'd love to try it out. I've invested quite a lot of points into repair so far. Also first time I've played using speech, planning on getting it to 70 for the terrifying presence perk.

Hahah I am so glad speech isn't a total waste of time.
* I personally think it's much better than FO3. It captures the feel of the older ones so much better than 3 and I've found myself laughing so much thanks to the script.
Gee I have laughed like two or three times, mostly at stupid shit. I must be missing these hilarious script moments.

Are any of these perks not worth bothering with?
Ferocious loyalty, mister sandman, jury rigging, action girl, tag, solar powered, cannibal.
I think the game still looks good, the animation is an immersion killer though.

Love everything else about it.
Absofucking inexcusable. Playing first person because of it. Won't be buying another Bethesda game if it's like this- no matter how good it is.

The motel at (an early main-quest related location)
Novac.

Pssh, who needs a safehouse. I'm like Robert DeNiro in heat. I don't pick up any item that I'm not willing to drop the moment I'm overburdened.

Ok so I might have been a bit to harsh last night, gave it another try today. It's growing on me. Did the ghoul rocket thingy and gotta admit it was cool. On my way to Vegas now (bumping up speech now, seems more useful then sneaking).

These are not worth the investment.

Jury Rigging is really cool, and tag is okay (a waste of a perk IMO).

20 hours, and I just hit Freeside last night. Fuck me, this game is going to consume years of my life.

So much surreal, crazy, awesome shit happening in the wasteland.

Can't complement this game enough.

Back to playing. :D

Anyone else playing on very hard/hardcore? I've revised my character a bit after some more play through and analysis. Skill points are harder to come by with the lower bonus from INT, so I'm thinking a higher INT will be generally beneficial. I'm pretty sure you get 15 extra skill points per point in INT. It turns out the END mod counts against your mod total, so you need 7 base END to get 6 stats plus the 4 DT mod. This gives you an extremely strong character with high crit and lots of skill points to spend.

Final base stats after modding, without any gear on = 8 STR, 6 PER, 8 END, 1 CHR, 8 INT, 6 AGI, 9 LCK, +4 DT

As for skills, here's what I've taken so far. My character is capable of tearing up deathclaws on very hard with some relatively plain weapons just by procing crits all the time.

01 Fast Shot and Built to Destroy
02 Confirmed Bachelor
04 Rapid Reloads
06 Bloody Mess
08 Cowboy
10 Finesse
12 Shotgun Surgeon
14 Purifier
16 Better Criticals
18 Sniper

Working towards Ninja and Jury Rigging. Not sure on the last 3 slots but probably VATS related stuff.

Also, here's some hints to you aspiring thieves who want to grab everything not nailed down quickly without getting caught: First, crouch so you're [HIDDEN]. If you're [DETECTED] you'll get caught. If you're sure there is nobody around to catch you, you can grab stuff standing up. NPCs patrol around and move to different spots during the day and night, so if an area is crowded, try at a different time. If they're sleeping it's sometimes easier to remain hidden. You can sometimes push NPCs away from the theft target by walking into them, or talk to them so they face away from the target. If the item is not a container, you can press Z to grab it and drag it out of sight, then steal it. Moving items around doesn't count as theft. Close doors to block NPC line of sight, or push a barrel in the way between you and them. If all of that fails, you'll need a higher sneak level (try the Ranger Armor for +5 Sneak) or use a Stealth Boy.

Oh yeah, got mauled by a random Deathclaw OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE. Fucker got me in two hits. I was terrified afterward so I avoided that area altogether.

Only level 9... :lol

I'm now playing Fallout 3 GOTY off Steam because it was the cheapest way to get all of the DLC I missed the first time around. Ultra settings, big comfy couch and HDTV via HDMI and my m11x is pulling 720p @ 60fps easily. And yet I can't run New Vegas on low.

I love you Obsidian, but sometimes I don't like you very much.

There's some through the mountains towards Novac, Primm Pass. Dunno why they didn't put some indication of their presence as a warning. I got mauled at level 4.

The writing in New Vegas is better than Fallout 3, but it's not exactly exceptional either. Where the game really shines compared to Fallout 3 is how factions and decisions are handled, how it has better designed (and more plentiful) quests, and a setting that seems much more alive.

On the other hand, it's actually a buggier game, and the technology is even more dated in 2010.
This is how I've been feeling so far. And I don't think I've had a decision that has made me sit and think yet, like nuking megaton.. or a quest that was genuinely enthralling like the replicated man.

Yeah what's up with that. I am already sick of one of the radio stations.. hopefully someone can make a custom radio mod.

I remember seeing a sign near Goodsprings that warned of Deathclaws. But that was 20 hours ago and I totally forgot about until your post. I walked out of a train station North/NorthEast of Sloan, and then it was over.

Also, it seems like there are waaay more ways to solve quests this time around. I've done only a handful of them, but so far the game definitely tailors to different play styles.

There's some around Novac in a mine, and they fucking killed me dead. I'm level six and I see this thing in the distance and think 'alright, exp time' (I'm new to Fallout...) and within three hits I was dead. Harsh times :lol

is it just me or is anyone else having way more fun with new vegas than fallout 3?

i played and beat fallout 3 but it never really grabbed my attention the way new vegas has, i cant put the game down:lol

Yeah, starting with really high int is a really good idea. I myself started off with 9.

Anyhow, this looks good (I have not found reloading to be very useful though).

2 questions:

I too have only 1 in CHR. Did you tag speech and allocate more skill points to it to make up, or are you ignoring it?

Why is it that you have extra attribute points? What do you mean by 'modding?'

New Vegas is what I wanted when Beth announced Fallout 3 three years ago. This game has the atmosphere, the customization (guns and plant harvesting, holy shit!), the personality, and the vibe that I was expecting a 3D Fallout game to have.

I am having a lot more fun with Vegas than F3. The quests I have done so far have been awesome and I really like the dialogue choices that my speech skill is opening up. Little things like the reloading/workbenches are awesome and make me want to constantly keep various ammo types.

Hardcore mode is also a must. It doesn't make the game more challenging to me, just adds to the atmosphere and really makes that can of pork n beans useful. Loving New Vegas.

Even though the fact that I
fucked a ghoul hooker
makes me want to throw up.

The different between 5 and 9 INT is 2 skill points per level up. It's nowhere near as powerful as it was in Fallout 3. I think Educated is enough to make up for having just 5 int.

1 |Sub-brick | 10.5 |Medicine & Repair & Science +2 |
| 2 |Vegetable | 11 |Medicine & Repair & Science +4 |
| 3 |Cretin | 11.5 |Medicine & Repair & Science +6 |
| 4 |Knucklehead | 12 |Medicine & Repair & Science +8 |
| 5 |Knowledgeable| 12.5 |Medicine & Repair & Science +10 |
| 6 |Gifted | 13 |Medicine & Repair & Science +12 |
| 7 |Smartypants | 13.5 |Medicine & Repair & Science +14 |
| 8 |Know-it-all | 14 |Medicine & Repair & Science +16 |
| 9 |Genius | 14.5 |Medicine & Repair & Science +18 |
| 10 |Omniscient | 15

Its not like how it was in Fallout 3. NV changes so that IN isnt as important for skill points. With 10 IN you get 15 points per level (not extra) compared to 1 IN with 10 skill points per level. Each point in IN only nets you 0.5 extra skill point per level.

edit: beaten by seconds :lol

I just got back this evening and while I was out today I realized something. When I started the game, I had most every intention of helping the NCR, and up to this point in my game I haven't had much reason to stray from that. I even walk around in NCR armor.

But I haven't done shit for NCR now that I think about it. Every single time there's been a decision that can be made in favor of more than one possible faction I haven't helped them a single time. :lol

Fucking Fallout... it tricked me!

INT isn't as good as it was in fallout 3, but in my opinion it's better than taking up a perk slot on Educated. But if you're really a hardass you can always take a point or two out of INT and put it elsewhere. But keep in mind that skill points in general are a lot harder to come by, especially if you aren't using a guide to find every book asap - I am not using a guide so I am hedging my bets on skill books by buffing INT. I didn't tag speech but I've built it up to the point where I can get it to 50 by putting on a +5 speech suit and using alcohol and mentats. That seems to be enough to clear most hurdles.

Faster reloading is really good. Some of the reload animations for pistols, shotguns, and heavy weapons is ridiculously long otherwise.

You can go to the New Vegas Medical Clinic and the Dr there will give you extra stat points for 4000 caps each. You're limited in the number of mods you can get by your base END, so if you want 6 extra stats plus the +4 DT mod, you need 7 base END.

I'm vilified with powder gangers and I can't complete aba daba honeymoon.. no option to deliver to motor when I talk to him, even though I negotiated his hat off him and reported him dead to the NCR. How does I deliver drugs?

Same here. I mean, I think i did one or two of their quests around Goodsprings, but after that I just kind of said 'meh' to them and the Legion. Although I am tempted to kill an NCR Ranger for their sweet armor.
