So, how did the rest of you decide to deal with Benny? :lol

I talked to him in the casino floor of the Tops, and I speeched him to talk to me one on one in the presidential suite. Then we had a talk, where I told him he sucked at trying to kill me, and he sucked at covering his tracks, showing him the lighter. He never suspected for a moment that Mr House was on to him, and he laid out his entire plan and explained what the chip was. Then I questioned his morality about killing to achieve his goals, and then I agreed with him - murder is indeed the solution. I proceeded to put a few bullets in his brains at point blank range, and unlike me, his head doesn't seem bulletproof. :lol

I just snuck up behind him and stuck some dynamite in his pants then killed everyone in Tops Casino including The Band.

Going back to an earlier save since everyone turns hostile now -/.

Big fan of that trick. Great at parties. Well, it's great the first time. For me, anyway.

Weapon spoiler (?):
The greatest thing in this game is planting C4 in someone's pants. They are helpless screaming "OH SHIT OH SHIT" desperately slapping their pants (I love the animation for this btw) while you sit there like an asshole holding the detonator.

Some of you guys have way too much fun with explosives. It's a matter of concern. Get help!

One of my replays will have to be a demented demolitions experts now. :(

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I'm amazed at how much more I enjoy New Vegas than I did FO3. 11 hours in and haven't even made it to Vegas, hell haven't even made it to
Nipton

This time I've started playing on PC, much better choice. I haven't run into any real bugs yet. I also haven't gotten stuck on a fucking rock like I have with ALL of Bethesda's games.

Good game Obsidian, good game.

Are you sure it's not in your inventory somewhere? It's not an item you can drop or trade. It's under the MISC category as "The Platinum Chip" (so it will get sorted under T alphabetically).

yeah its not there.

Also, these things are automatic.

When you go to
upgrade the securitrons in the bunker, at the console, the only option I had when I went was "leave it alone" which made me think..eh, I don't have the chip
...

that's when I realised.... its gone. I then went back to see if I can get it back. And I can't. He won't even talk to me.

I loaded it all the way back and he doesn't give it to me after I give it to him.

Killed him in his sleep. The Black Widow perk lets you sweet talk Benny with some really insane lines like "You ran away so fast after you shot me that I didn't even get your name". Apparently Benny is a sucker so he leads the courier to his suite where you can kill him or hear some classy and extremely poorly acted lines like "Loo at dem gams" or "Baby you are the tops" and then kill him while he sleeps or go to sleep your self. I have no idea where the quest goes if you let him live though because the mans a snake and would probably still end up double crossing you at the drop of a hat. Well at least he leaves a note if you did let him leave.

Edit: At least when a perk says "Provides additional dialog lines" Obsidian actually put those lines in the game this time.

I got a question about the infamy stats with each faction

I havnt reached Vegas yet but did I read somewhere that it doesnt matter if you have a bad status with some factions as when you get to vegas you can redeem them?

I wanted to kill the NCR but didnt as I want to be friends with the Leigon but havnt come across them yet for being able to join them (im upto that Boulder City place)

I also found that place with the solar pannels, that NCR guarded place, but shouldnt i be going to that place later, not before getting to vegas? ( i didnt save but saw an option to attack the NCR with it? )
Why would you want to be friends with that scum?

Fuck I jinxed myself because I can't get it to happen now!

That animation plays when you stuff pretty much any other explosive in someone's pants, but I just did it again and they are just walking around oblivious to the plastique in their pocket. Not that it isn't still great because they're walking bombs, but I swear I did this to one of the powder gangers that was randomly walking around...

Maybe I'll try it with that frame of mind. I'm just concerned it will all feel a bit too familiar.

I am enjoying this game so far despite the fact that it really is a piece of shit.

Full of bugs and glitches- It shows what a bunch of suckers gamers are that a product can actually be released in this condition.

It is no more than an expansion, extra levels for fallout 3. Its the same slightly lame and very repetative combat system from 3, the same almost irrelevent stat progression and the same clumsy exploration of a largley empty wasteland.

The developers of this game should hang their heads in shame as should any reviewer who gave this lazy crap more than 6/10.

Having said all of that I still cant wait to finish work and play some more!

I'm amazed at the size and scope of this game. So many quests. Played for 31 hours so far. Haven't had any crashes either, only some disappearing companions that eventually showed back up. Even with the bugs, this gets way more than a 6/10 from me.

I had the one last night too, except she disappeared with over 3000 caps worth of gear, so I wasn't going to take the chance that she wouldn't come back. I tried rezoning and reloading my most recent save, but she remained missing. Had to revert to an older save and lost about 30 minutes of playtime.

I've basically handled most quest in the game by sneaking up to people and planting explosives and having my Boone-Stick handle the rest.

Black Widow + strangled him in his sleep. It was funny seeing his ragdoll fall onto the bed the next morning like all ragdolls do whenever an area loads.

The reason I ask is because it seems there's different Region 1 versions and I need to make sure the version I get is the US one, else DLC bought on my account won't work.

This is the first time I've seen this kind of thing, but here it is: a PEGI rated Region 1 PS3 game, based on the back of the box it's geared towards Latin America. I've been told by the store it's a BLUS-30627 game.

Juggling Jury perk is awesome. Being able to fix things with other cheap stuff comes in very handy. Perfect condition on all my unique items kick's ass, especially the Gobi Scout Rifle. And, it makes it very easy to make money.

Other than the actual look of combat, it doesn't feel the same to me at all. If you're really concerned about it being too much like your old play through, maybe go with a different character build this time. Approach combat in a different way. If you went small guns before, go melee or explosives. Maybe this time do energy weapons. The combat is the only thing that runs the risk of feeling too similar, and that's entirely up to your own choices. The rest of the game feels really fresh, personally, despite the same engine.

About dealing with Benny...

I didn't even think about stopping him in the TOPS, so he ended up escaping and getting captured by the Legion... Though I did rather enjoy the option of taking him down mano-a-mano in the Legion Arena with only a Machete in hand. Maybe I'm just a fair guy, maybe is was just satisfying to hack and slash at him... Who knows?

I did end up killing him by chopping off his arm, so it was amusing that when I took his suit, his arm still had it on.

I'm done with this game on PC. It's a technical failure of fucking epic proportions. I've tried every tweak I could find on the net, including two different versions of the d3d9.dll (one Nvidia and one ATI), turned off all the water settings, turned off ATI PowerPlay, overclocked my graphics card slightly, the iFPSclamp trick, the multithreaded tweak, etc etc. Nothing works. THIS GAME IS BROKEN, BETHESDA/OBSIDIAN. After lowering the settings until I get a steady 40 fps (that goes up to 50-60 sometimes) outdoors, it still runs way worse than the 360 version (which I was running at the same time on the other HDMI port, switching back and forth) because of the crazy microstuttering, skips, hops and jumpy framerate. The 360 version runs at 30 fps but at least it's consistent and not skipping and jumping like a monkey on amphetamine.

My advice: Don't even consider buying this game on PC unless you can run it at a constant 60 fps, which combined with some other tricks greatly reduces stuttering. If you, like me, "only" have a middle-range laptop that can run Crysis pretty well (on medium) but not New Vegas, get the console version because the PC release is a god damned disgrace. Personally I'll be waiting for modders to finish the New Vegas Script Extender so we can have a New Vegas Stutter Remover like we had for Oblivion and Fallout 3. Fuck I'm so pissed right now that I have this useless Steam version I can't sell or play just sitting on my HDD :(

For real, the stutter is unbearable. I'm putting off seriously starting this game until either an Obsidian patch, or a mod removes the stuttering. I'm playing on a GTX 460 and I get a locked 60fps on maxed out settings at 1080p according to FRAPS, yet the stutter is unbearable. Even when I drop the settings to 720p with medium settings, I get the same amount of stutter. Such BS, but I'm confident the mod community will resolve the issue shortly.

It sucks too because the game seems to be great story and gameplay-wise.

Did you get to Vegas on 360? I saw it on my girlfriend's 360 version and it was terrible.

Also, what are your system specs? Maybe we can help.

Really? Do you have the d3d9.dll? Did you try the iFPSclamp=60 setting in the .ini? I was under the impression that this wasn't a problem for people with high-end specs.

Like I said, I compared the PC and 360 versions side-by-side on two different HDMI inputs on my TV, and the 360 version looks a lot better since it doesn't have the stuttering and frameskips that the PC version has. On PC, even when I get 50% higher FPS than the 360 version, it still looks like shit. I'm on a Vaio with i3 330m, 4 GB RAM and a ATI HD5650m. The specs don't really matter though since it's not the framerate or visual quality that's the problem (both of those are superior to the 360), it's stuttering and frameskips that apparently were a huge problem in Oblivion and FO3 as well. At least those games had mods to fix it, NV doesn't (yet) except the d3d9.dll and some ini and setting tweaks that don't do anything for me.

You're playing a female character?

On Cachino
So I ratted this fink out to the Omerta family, Big Sal was not happy. He called me and Cachino into his office and told Cachino he was very disappointed in him and his side business. Cachino begs for another chance and Big Sal says something to the effect of "I hope Hell is warm enough for you Cachino!" Then BAM the family hitman Two Buttons puts the double barrel sawed off to the back of Cachino's head. So awesome. Fucking Cachino got what was coming to him after what he did to poor Joanna. Now I have taken Cachino's place and am doing some work for Big Sal.

The quests in this game are so much better to me than Fallout 3. The amount of choice you have is just amazing and awesome.

Surprised at just how many named quests there are. Fallout 3 only had like 20. Also I can't stress enough how lame the New Vegas Strip is, it seriously is perhaps the least interesting area of the entire wasteland :lol

I always play female characters in RPGs. Either because I like to look at the character model (which is why I never use 3rd person view while playing) or I don't want to play a male character and identify with him or some such nonsense.

I just love games that give you choices that really make a difference.

Well Benny decided to have me killed again in his penthouse, only I didn't agree with his plans and chopped off his goons heads with a flick knife when they stormed in to do his dirty work.

I then had a good chat with his Robot 'Yes Man' and went to see the Legion who had kindly captured Benny and the chip.

Caesar let me choose how to kill him which was nice, so being a forgiving Christian person I had him crucified. He called me a 'Sick Fuck' so he clearly appreciated my choice.

duckroll said:

Yep. Though to be fair to Fallout 3 for a moment, its named quests were all layered, multi-objective ones. Some of the quests in New Vegas are super simple, like the one from Mojave Outpost where all you have to do is kill 5 giant ants on the highway lulz.

Wow.
I ended up bringing benny up to the presidential suite and talking to him about his plans. Once I got the info I needed from him I put a bullet in his head, too bad for him he doesn't have a thick skull like me.

What you did you Benny though, my god, is that just awesome or what? The amount of ways we have all offed Benny is just fucking hilarious. I think the crucifix takes the cake though. Fuck Benny.

What I want to know is how Matt Perry dealt with Benny. The guy supposedly loves Fallout 3. I would really like to know how he chose to deal with himself in New Vegas.
