Boone + Chainsaw + Vault 3

Holy fucking shit. I just hear the faint sound of a chainsaw... I walk through the halls and... what carnage. He looks super bad-ass with chainsaw plus the beret and the shades.

So, how did the rest of you decide to deal with Benny? :lol

I talked to him in the casino floor of the Tops, and I speeched him to talk to me one on one in the presidential suite. Then we had a talk, where I told him he sucked at trying to kill me, and he sucked at covering his tracks, showing him the lighter. He never suspected for a moment that Mr House was on to him, and he laid out his entire plan and explained what the chip was. Then I questioned his morality about killing to achieve his goals, and then I agreed with him - murder is indeed the solution. I proceeded to put a few bullets in his brains at point blank range, and unlike me, his head doesn't seem bulletproof. :lol
didn't have any smuggled weapons with me, went to the presidentail suite, hit stealthboy so I could creep around and not get auto intiated in dialouge, grabbed the pool cue from the pool table and beat him to death with it hopped up on pyscho and buffout, and med x :D

as far as brotherhood of steel

Did they come across as kind of evil dickheads to anyone else? They slap a slave collar on me and force me to do their dirty work!? fuck that, had the ncr dude remove it and sniper rifled their asses through their entire damn bunker, making mutiple trips to the gun runners hocking their power armors for combat armor and a i think I have like a bajjilion round for every gun in the game now, then I detonated their base :lol

So do your attributes never level up? Is taking that perk the only way to get more attribute points? Other than temporary increases through armor or drugs....

And in multiple slots. I'm about 12 hours in and have 35-40 or so different saves. Its a bethesda/obsidian game. I'm not taking any chances :p

I'm assuming this has been posted already, but I'll also add it as an FYI.

If/when you decide to upgrade ED-E by doing his quest chain, make sure to remove any items he's storing for you. If not, once he's upgraded you'll lose all the items he's holding onto for you. I learned the hard way. :(

Talks about it in more detail on the Fallout Wiki, and a possible solution for PC users using the console.

I wish we could rename our saves.

Ditto for me. About 20 hours in and 90 saves already. Had one corrupted quick save, but because I'm saving every 15 min or so, I didn't lose much progress.:lol

I'm enjoying the game, but boy, I wish they had put some more funds into music licensing. I cannot get the lyrics for "Big Iron" or "Johnny Guitar" out of my head because I've heard those songs at least thirty times over. I mean, I know it's postapocalyptica, but you think someone, somewhere, would have saved a few more singles from the nuclear fire.

Big Iron on his hippppppppp....

I seem to recall one of the previews saying that you can get a pimped out Pipboy at some point, is that true?
I think so. I glanced over something in the strategy guide earlier, something called a
Pimp boy 3 Billion
or something like that.

edit:
confirmed. it can be found in Mick & Ralph's.

Slight spoiler
there's a medical clinic NE of Vegas where you can get implants to raise your stats.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
Speaking of saves, I wish they'd group saves by character. Once you get multiple characters going, it can be kind of a pain to keep track.

yeah im liking the in game soundtrack alot more in this also, having the fallout 1 and 2 music in there helps, I also like the battle theme in the nipton town hall, reminded me of terminator 2 lol.

I'd like to hear about this too, I enjoyed the Mysterious Stranger in FO3, I'm thinking about giving him a rest this time around to roll with Miss Fortune.

In-game soundtrack is so much better, and has sooo much more variety than FO3: Separate themes for different areas (FO3 had like 1 town theme), wider variety of battle music, different ambient music for day and night, etc.

I was going to make this same exact post. I had the same issue with Fallout 3. The problem with this save system also is it is easy to accidentally overwrite your friend's file.

Where can I find a stealth boy? I make a mistake of selling them all. Already cleared out REPCONN Test Site.

I didn't like killing the invisible guys in there. There's little room to dodge their attacks and they have a lot of HP. Had to use 5-6 stimpacks to clear out the whole lot of them.

I have an idea for a character that *sounds* fun not sure if its practical. Idea is that I fire guns at range (esp outdoors) with iron sights with cool energy and gun weapons. I therefore plan on having mid-high Gun and Energy Weapon skills, but also hand to hand combat for close range and boss type enemy combat.

I would take Melee 45 for Super Slam and Unarmed 90 for paralyzing palm and slayer. And that's it for unarmed. No Ninja, Unstoppable Force or Piercing Strike. Idea being its a paralyzing move/knockdown to take a very dangerous enemy out of the fight, but leaving plenty of rooms for perks and skills to allow me to use other weapons effectively at range. For high DT targets I would use appropriate guns/ammo AFTER knocking them out.

Medicine 70 (Damn you Living Anatomy I cant play without you!)
Science 30 or 55
Repair 30-50
Lockpick 80
Melee 45
Unarmed 90
Guns 60-90
Energy Weapons 60-90

2 Lady Killer
4 Educated
6 Comprehension
8 Super Slam
10 Living Anatomy
12 Life Giver
14 Silent Running
16 Better Criticals
18 Paralyzing Palm
20 Action Boy
22 Silent Running
24 Slayer

A friend is using it, he said she pops out occasionally, totally randomly, to knock down or damage the enemy. And wiki says that it's a flat 10% chance to proc.

What does everybody think about making a melee-focused character? In theory it sounds horribly boring, but it seems Obsidian put in a lot of interesting options and moves for melee. i.e. palm strikes, Ranger take-downs, etc. Has anyone done it, or regret doing it?

I'm on a Vaio with i3 330m, 4 GB RAM and a ATI HD5650m. The specs don't really matter though since it's not the framerate or visual quality that's the problem (both of those are superior to the 360), it's stuttering and frameskips that apparently were a huge problem in Oblivion and FO3 as well. At least those games had mods to fix it, NV doesn't (yet) except the d3d9.dll and some ini and setting tweaks that don't do anything for me.

There is a recently released mod meant to fix the stutters in New Vegas:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=330970

Maybe it'll help.

Is there another way to disarm explosive collars on those
slaves in the Legion outpost
? I don't have the required explosive skill.

Also How can you get into Camp Searchlight?

Can't even get through the Optional Goodsprings quest with settings on Low. Game runs a LOT worse than FO3 did. Damn shame as I was enjoying the new setting.

Last battle sucked ass for the build-up it was given, atleast with the NCR anyway. It was nice that every companion, hub, faction that i dealt with had a narrated ending text though.

On Hard, with 21 points in Unarmed, I'm three-shotting Cazadors and two-shotting golden geckos with my power fist. I was doing similar things with a combat knife earlier.

Melee is incredibly powerful.

Have I glitched on the quest Young Hearts?

I got the girl access to the base, got her pay money, was told to meet her and Jack at the base. I quick travelled to base, it said I had met the girl, but Jack was gone and the waypoint was up by the Black Hills (Mountains? Whatever they're called). I waited 24hrs, twice, but the waypoint stayed there. I fought my way there but can't find an actual path to the waypoint - I don't think it's in the game world where I can get to.

Happened to anyone else or solution? I don't want it left unfinished on the last step. Please help!

Does anyone know if Fast Shot (20% faster guns, 20% less accuracy) effects accuracy of non-VATS combat, ie iron sights?

I was thinking of taking that and using iron sights long range, then VATS only at close range.

If true, should be great with shotguns :D

:-( I accidentally got Boone killed by trying to run up Black mountain too quick. Damn it all.
Times like this call for:

Hit ~ (tilde) in game
Click on the downed NPC, in your case Boone.
Top middle screen will read "Boone" followed by some type of code
Type "resurrect" minus the quotes.

That is if you don't mind using console commands. In that case you'll have to deal.

Especially with a Game on Hardcore, this will take away from the immersion. But hey it's there if you really need it.

I agreed to work with him in the suite, planning on betraying his ass later on. Less than 10 seconds after leaving the asshole sent his bodyguards up to kill me and ran away to the legion's camp. I had to go there, do shit for Caesar, then I chose what to do with him. I fought him in the arena with a machete and cut his head off myself.

So apparently the constant PC stutter is caused by an engine bug that's been around since Oblivion:

guru 3d forums said:
FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!! THE CAUSE OF FRAMESKIPPING - GAME 64HZ ENGINE FLAW

Quote:This Fixes the 64hz bug , it's true what happens. The engine runs at 64HZ/64FPS but the monitor is at 60HZ. So what the game engine does is drop 4frames per second to sync the engine with the graphics card/monitor this is what causes the frame skipping. Only one other game engine does this and thats the one with Doom 3 and Prey !

For those who don't want to run the game from a decrypted .exe, when Oblivion Script Extender is finished Valve will most probably let them use the .exe (just like they did with Oblivion and FO3), and then we can have a simple .dll-based stutter remover that works automatically and doesn't require a modified .exe (again, just like Oblivion/FO3).

wow this moves fast, if you look under "update 2" in the post, there's another method that fixes the stutter AND makes the game able to use 4GB of RAM, and it works with Steam (so achievements are A-OK)!!! I tested it and it removes the stutter just like the first method, only I get the Steam pop-up now. FUCK YES

Holy shit.

I just came across a
cannibal
dude who lives in a cave that mentions once having a drill sergeant named Sgt. Dornan. I had to just stare at the screen for a few seconds after hearing my last name spoken in a video game. I've never come across anyone outside of my family in real-life with the same last name as me, and there are only about a hundred people with the last name on Facebook. Even though it's no doubt a coincidence, still makes me feel like I have a personal connection to this game somehow.

Maybe it's trying to tell you something. You may have a future in the military. Hell, maybe you'll live long enough to see the bombs drop.

I looked EVERYWHERE for those stupid parts. And I wasn't about to pay some thieving merchant! Took ages and it was totally worth it.

I really should buff my science skill but I have other priorities!
