That's the thing. No one is just evil, you always need to have some motivation or basis for action. If you are just evil then shoot every person you meet in the face, which makes things rather boring.

I dunno, I think murdering most everyone you meet up to
Nipton
would be a pretty reasonable path for an evil character. Hell, you could even roam a proper serial killer, murdering people when they're alone and in their homes at night and shit!

Hmm.

Well it depends on what kind of approach you want to take. The "this is a game and i can quick save and quick load and kill everybody as long as the dice rolls go my way" I think would be pretty boring. But thinking about it I do agree that trying to get away with as many murders as you can, without getting caught, puts an interesting spin on it that might make it entertaining. I guess I am just saying it has to be a bit more than simply trying to kill everything the moment you see it.

Edit: To summarize. Senseless murder is boring. Killing some one because you have the cannibalism perk and they look tasty is fun and quirky.

Edit2: Especially if you play on hardcore and don't eat anything else. Wait does cannibalism make your hunger go down on hardcore? If it doesn't, some one should really mod that in.

The invisible walls in this game suck. I'm trying to walk up a mountain to get to a quest when I just hit a wall. Now I've got to wander around until I find the path the game actually wants me to take.
It suxs when that happens, but there is always a path to those mountain spots, if you hit a wall it just means it isn't that way.

Yeah, Fallout 3s system was a train wreck to me because all it did was basically encourage you to max out everything. New Vegas's system is much better in that regard. It seems pretty impossible to maxout all your skills and special stats.
Guess I'm in the minority I like FO3's system a little better just because I didn't really have a preferred style until a little half way through the game. I started with pistols and rifles I found then moved on to melee for a good while then moved on to energy weapons, then assault rifles, then finally using my sneak ability and the sniper rifle.

So I have had this game freeze up on me three times in the final section. First when it was supposed to give me the "are you SURE you're ready?" prompt, then again while running down a straight path, and it just locked up in the middle of the ending sequence, when it should have transitioned from one scene to the next.

Effective way to kill the urge for a replay, at least.

It's Fallout y'know, sometimes making your own fun is just more important (and more entertaining) than what they've laid out for you.

I can just imagine me running around Goodsprings with a hockey mask and a dirty business suit with a tire iron breaking into peoples' homes at night... :lol :lol :lol

Oh fuck I think I need to make a new character I'll be back in a while! :lol

Need Help

In the Repconn HQ for the q35 MM plasma rifle i entered the code but when I went inside the the room it wasn't there?! Glitched by chance ? Also the ED-E mission, for gibson there were no new dialogue options; got one at Helios though

EDIT: I have to say I'm not fond of the faction stuff either. I was doing a quest where
I'm supposed to rescue some prisoners from the Legion after they murdered nearly a whole town and kidnapped some people, so I show up, try to free them and the Legion starts shooting me so I kill them. Then I get a message that says basically everyone thinks I'm a bad guy now. What the fuck?

The message probably said you were vilified only by that faction (legion in your case). Unlike FO3 your good/evil rep is different for every faction.

Sort of curious.

What is this "special item" the game talking about if I managed to complete the game in Hardcore mode? Is it just the 100g achievement or is it talking about something else?

Pretty sure it's just the cheevos or the trophy.

I actually already got villified by the Power Gangers, so this message seemed different.

Is there a console command I can use to trigger/start the companion quests, rather than having to build up the relationship points with them?

Seriously, the amount of content they've put into this game is mindblowing. Why is everything so huge? Would be nice to have a place where I don't get lost :lol

ok, quick question about companions. are you still rewarded XP for the enemies they kill, or how does that work? does it all go to whoever gets the killing blow?

You get XP for anything your companions kill.

I removed the d3d9.dll file a couple days ago and there was a pretty noticeable bump in visual quality without any real change in performance.

I'm using that FNV4GB tool instead now.

Don't think the dll file is any good. It isn't some piece of magic. It improves performance by sacrificing visual quality.

Yep happened to me too. I decided to just endrush the game seeing as though I couldn't get the outcome I wanted. Hopefully its fixed by the time I get there on my second play through.

If I wasn't obsessed with Fallout I would've given up long ago I think.

This game is so ridiculously good that I'm starting to suspect that the seemingly popular negative opinion about Alpha Protocol had to be wide of the mark. I guess I'll have to give it a try.

Someday. When I get done exploring Nevada.

What? There's no visual quality loss on my end. The reason it works is because the default shader paths they use on hardware ID detection are fucked up with the implementation of FaceGen they're using. That's why the slowdown is almost all NPC related. Maybe there's something wrong if you're using an NVidia card but it shouldn't be doing anything to the visual quality, it's there to fix a bug with the detected shaders.

I had a lot of fun with Alpha Protocol. It's worth a buy if you can catch it during a good sale.

FUCK YEAH, this allows me to turn transparency multisampling back on! Thanks!

Edit - Is it worth using the custom gen version on a 5850?

I'd try custom gen version first. I have created d3d9.dll using this tool for my HD 5770.

Game locked up on me three times within 10 minutes. Holy crap. I think I need to clear the 360's cache? That shit was ridiculous.

Duckroll, just as a heads up: the Legion does not look too kindly on women, so set your expectations low on being all buddy-buddy with Caesar.

Very minor spoiler, not much info, regarding the above statement:
Things like fighting in their arena are blocked from you as a female character, or at least as far as I can tell thus far that seems to be the case. I had some grand aspirations to raise myself through the ranks and knock out some second in commands and place myself pretty high up, but I'm either missing entirely how to do it, it's not possible as a woman (due to not being able to fight in the arena and challenge people), or it's not possible at all (never got this far with my male character, so not sure if you can displace them or not)

On the other hand, nothing beats rolling through the wasteland with Centurion armor/helmet and a curved sword, slaying any NCR you happen to come across or infiltrating their lines in their armor and then switching into your Legion clothes and wiping out entire bases. I skipped dealing with the powder gangers completely, just went straight to Legion, fiddled around working my way up the river north towards Vegas dealing with NCR as I came across them, then went into the Strip, did the main quest a bit, and am now working towards getting the Boomers and Khans to like me. NCR is a complete write-off, as are any of the families/groups in the Strip.
Mr. Checkers and his crowd are all taking a dirt nap for my early game treatment, and now I have the entire casino to myself. I'm considering foloowing suit with the other casinos, though Gomorrah can probably stick around. Can't have a bunch of raping and murdering legionaries taking over without a fresh supply of whores!

Master scheme for end game:
Legion, Khans and Boomers are going to take over Vegas, while my robot army and I are going to be in charge of them all. I'll get Boomers hitting NCR from the west while Legion and I swing in from the east. Hopefully the robots can come along for the ride, but I'll settle for them being in control of Vegas later. I reprogrammed them for some good times. This shit is fun when you're a power tripping crazy bitch! Also, Veronica doesn't seem to mind being all evil and slaying anyone you come across, so consider her for a partner in crime, because Boone is an obvious no-go with his irrational hatred of Legion. Her power fist fits in extremely well with my melee-centric Roman chick anyway.

Went with a character whose entire focus is talking/manipulating her way into (or out of) any situation and convincing people to do fucked up things. If that falls apart, I beat the shit out of them with my swords and axes (and Terrifying Presence
though Caesar earned a reprieve because of my awestruck respect for my glorious leader. Benny? Not so much...
). I look extremely stylish in Legionary clothing with machetes, cleavers, axes and eventually a sword from an unfortunate Centurion's mysterious night time assassination (He had a cool hat too). I do not have any ability to shoot guns/energy weapons, no explosives (all at 5) cant pick even an easy lock or hack an easy terminal, (both just shy of 15) but if there's people involved I can manipulate the fuck out of them with mad speech (90) and barter(~65) skills, and my melee/unarmed(~70) are so high that I have a ton of perk buffs for CQC(knockdown, break through blocks, ignore 15 DT). Currently at level 16 or 17. It's great fun, and I highly recommend going for these wierd off the wall builds that throw half the game out the window (havent touched a gun since level 4, and have never been able to get past locked doors if I couldnt kill someone for a key/convince them to open the door for me). This game really makes you feel the results of your build in a much more noticeable fashion than Fallout 3 ever did. May change a little by the end of the game but through the early and mid stages you definitely notice areas you are lacking in and have to adjust your playstyle accordingly.

there are just too many side-quests, I think I did pretty much everything in my first FO3 play-through, but here many of the quests actually contradict or affect each other, much more than FO3, really satisfying so far. It's nothing like a shallow BioWare RPG where you can have your cake and eat it too with blue/red choices and results that aren't really different.
