Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

The BoS want to control technology and stop people using it whereas Mr. House is all about technology and is most definitely not going to want the BoS stepping on his toes. It's only natural for House to want to wipe them out.

I feel basically the exact same way. The game sets up Mr. House as being this vaguely creepy guy who most likely has ill intent tucked away behind his business-like facade. I played his ending expecting him to show his true self and screw me and Vegas over at the last second but he actually has ambitious technological dreams for mankind. It doesn't sound like he wants to go all 1984 either, he explicitly mentions that he has no interest in interfering with the inhabitants of Vegas.

Really? I always had the impression that house was exactly what he presented himself as being. Really, if not for the entire
murder The Brotherhood of Steel
thing, I would have chosen him over all the other factions.

As is, the NCR and Yesman are the only factions that I ever align with.

Figured the BOS would want to make friends with a guy
who was around pre war and was responible for alot of the technology.

What part of the Brotherhood of Steel told you they were a friendly group?

I'm doing the quest "Beyond The Beef" - White Glove Society being
Cannibals

I told Mortimer that I'm gonna help him and lied to
Ted
and his dad

Now I want to change the
meal
without dealing with that guy they got earlier...

The thing is - I can't find the Cook!
I'm in the kitchen and the damn Cook is not here! Where the hell is he? Did I need to do something else before seeing him?

Edit:

According to the Fallout Wikia there's a bug in the game that may make him not appear in the kitchen

I've loaded a previous save and done it again but he still wont' appear

I've searched a bit and it seems no one has ever talked about this bug and I can't find a solution

Did someone have this happen to him?
I don't want to go the bad route since :(

Why did you put your Charisma to 10? SPEIAL for the win, imo. Also heading straight to Vegas to clean out the casinos at level 1 is a great idea. I netted something close to 40K, bought all the implants along with some great armour that at level 13 I'm still wearing.
CHA at 10 is a huge boost to companion damage. Having it maxed means that whoever is rolling with you, is going to kill faster than you are most likely. Love my 9 CHA melee character.

You did it wrong
Arcade is suppose to be stuck with Caesar and you feed Veronica to the White Gloves

Legion ending was pretty fun.

Truth.

Although, I only really ran through it more out of morbid curiosity than anything else.

While the legion is an interesting faction to learn about, I would have rather done so whilst gutting the lot of them.

What faction is the most fun/interesting to stick with?

As you progress more in Main Quest, other factions will start to close for you. That's why it's better to do sidequests first/know when to pause while doing factions' quests. As for individual factions - they are all fun except Legion, too much pushing you around and annoying attitude. Plus, it's really difficult to pursue other faction and keep your Followers if you insist on sticking to Legion.

That and I'd say Legion also has the least amount of stuff to actually do.

I love how there are so many choices and most of them feel important. Best game that does this well I think.

Do I have to side with any factions after putting Yes Man in control?

And I thought ripping his head off in one-to-one unarmed combat was cool. Bravo, good sir. Bravo.
*bow*

I decided to take my character to Mr. House for the first time, after I'd offed Caesar. Nice to hear some different dialog to reflect that. Gave him the Platinum Chip, got my money and left. I'm still an NCR man through and through. :lol

*tear*

Gonna focus on the DLC now, and then head to Hoover Dam.

In all honesty, though, the NCR's morals (democracy and the rule of law) are what draw me to them. Sure, they've got their flaws, but they're faring better than any other party out there in the Wasteland, and they're doing their best.

The Legion's just a cult built around Caesar, a cult built on fear, not laws. It's doomed to fail sooner or later.

House has good plans, yes, but in the long-term I can scarcely see him being beneficial to the greater good. He's an egoistic prick: so obsessed with 'winning the war' that he sacrificed his humanity.

An independent Vegas is my second choice, but it, too leaves a lot to be desired.

It's really all a matter of where your personal opinions lie, there's no "good" or "bad" ending here.
Except for the Legion. They suck. :lol

I heard that the endings would have been more gray if Obsidian got their way with the factions. But apparently Bethesda wanted to have a big bad empire in the Legion.

Would not surprise me considering how they painted super mutants and the brotherhood of steel in F3.

I just found out about the brackets stuff for hacking through a Let's Play video. What the fuck. I've played Fallout 3 twice and New Vegas twice and am only finding out about this NOW!?

I had no idea about this before reading your post and googling lol.

Where did you hear this? Caesar's Legion was an idea from the cancelled Fallout 3 project. Most all of the changes between that original concept and what is in NV is Avellone's work.

Some message board. It's baseless speculation as it is but it wouldn't surprise me considering Bethesda's track record and the fact that they were overseeing the project. They had to green light everything Obsidian did pretty much.

When you look at how gray FO2 is to New Vegas especially. But again, speculation.

I don't think the Enclave are a very morally grey faction in Fallout 2.

If Bethesda really had to green light everything Obsidian did and the end result was Fallout: New Vegas, I think maybe they handled their end pretty well.

Shit, same here lmao. Mind blown.

I'm on the final quest for Old World Blues. Such an awesome piece of DLC. Have a ton of new goodies to take back to the Mojave.

Edit: And the evil toaster. LOL. Is that Jace Hall voice acting? So awesome.

This.... is almost certainly not true. I've never seen anything that even remotely indicates that there is any truth in this.

So we'd get a different slideshow at the end? If that's all that changed, then I don't see how it would make things any different, even if it is true.

Yeah, I don't see it either. I'm not even sure what it is based on.

FO2 had the very much evil Enclave (i mean, your first encounter with the Enclave is Frank Horrigan mowing down a whole family!) and the NCR was pretty much the same as it is in New Vegas. I think the black and whiteness is pure Obsidian, because i don't see how Bethesda could've perceived a greater moral greyness as something that would hurt sales.

Still, would've been nice if they had rounded up the Legion to a point where playing Legion wasn't just a curiosity. The Legion was the big disappointment of New Vegas.

I would definitely say that the Legion are my least favorite thing about New Vegas. Not sure how to word it at the moment, but I kind of wish they were a little more slaver and a little less Roman.

I don't like how they handle weapons in the Fallout games. Sure, there are plenty of weapons but the vast majority of them are useless or far weaker than other easily found or bought weapons. Sometimes I'll just be exploring and find a cool weapon and then it turns out it's actually the strongest of that type in the game. Meanwhile there are 20 other weapons out there that I have never even seen before but are made completely useless. Like the Thermic Lance. You can just buy it for a few thousand caps and it's the strongest melee weapon in the game. Even the DLC weapons are nowhere near as good as what you find in the vanilla game. It takes the fun out of exploring for weapons. The best weapons aren't even unique ones most of the time.

And where the fuck is the Katana in this game? Don't tell me they made an achievement called New Vegas Samurai but they don't even give you one.

I started the game a few days ago, and I'm already enjoying it so far. My last save is at the NCR Power plant near Novac. I forgot what made me like Fallout 3 a lot until I played this game. Can't wait to play some more!

Wow...just a few hours in, and I already like the environment, soundtrack, and even enemy style more than 3 (gotta love giant running gekkos). Maybe i'm just a sucker for desert environments.

I bought Old World Blues during Steam sale, has anyone had problems with this DLC messing with mods?

The game actually seems more stable now that it loaded this DLC, I've had multiple 1-2 hr sessions with no crashes. I was having lots of problems with the game crashing after exiting an interior (only when I had been indoors looting for a few mins, not if I just ran in and ran out).

I downloaded an improved weapons sound mod the other day, loaded up NV just to see how it sounded. I ended up playing for 3 hours. This game is so addicting, I love it.

OMFG, missed that completely. Can you link to the video in question?

I'm really not sure why people keep arguing this? Avellone joined mid-project and had minimal influences on the main story arc/factions. Heck, his Caesar's Legion, was completely different and not as Roman-themed as the one we got (and it was designed as a faction you could become head of it, Postman-style, for male characters).

Yeah, actually that was Sawyer not Avellone. My bad.

Edit - Wait, what do you mean he joined "mid-project". What else was Obsidian working on that he wouldn't have been doing senior design work for from the start at the time?

I feel better now, I just found out/realized when it says x/x found, it doesn't mean X amount of letters were correct. Well it does, but it means their position in the word is correct.

It made hacking ridiculously easy after I learned that. I knew about the bracket thing but damn did I have to reset a few times even with the attempt renewal bracket.

Go the regular way, it's way easier.

I was so close one time. I made it to the train station by the farmlands. All of a sudden one just starts gunning. No chance of survival. I will make it, one day.

I'm thinking basically a guy who can influence things with a silver tongue. With Speech and Barter, I tagged Repair as a 3rd skill just as something to help out on the side.

So far it's been an interesting ride.

I made it to Sloan and successfully kited a Deathclaw into the camp. Not because I'm an evil character, but I just wanted to see how the NPCs would react. The first guy you meet with the hardhat gets killed almost instantly. Then the thing guns for me and I ran into the Mess Hall where I saved my game. The moment I walk out that door I'm a dead man.

Fucking bugs :|
What an awful fucking engine

I decided to simply add the item I needed from the cook with the console but hey now.. here's another glitch.. I can't cook! The only option I got is to
drug the wine
or tell that guy the truth ... I can go with the investigator route but I doubt the cook will appear or I could cook if I do this

I hate when shit like this happens :(

Wallach said:
Still, point being - that one is on Obsidian's guys, not Bethesda's.

No doubt. I'm pretty sure they went on record to say that Bethesda's intervention was pretty much initially telling them what not touch and giving approval to some things. And allegedly not giving them the chance to put Power Armor in OWB, though it was never specified it was Bethesda.

Success!

I made it from the Mess Hall to a shack.

If it learns how to open doors I'm a dead man.

You should be fine. Unless it's a descendant of Goris. But then maybe you could talk it into letting you go...

Hahaha

Made it to Freeside, Level 1. 0 people and 0 enemies killed. Used one Stimpack on Hardcore Mode. This is getting fun. When you really start to roleplay your character it gets pretty interesting.

Dumb question but did you do the conversations that give you the optional quest to cook?
