Dumb question but did you do the conversations that give you the optional quest to cook?

I already finished the quest doing the investigator route and the cook appeared.. I got pretty much the result I wanted :p

I'm pretty sure I did everything right before as well. The cook would just not appear.

What an awful fucking engine

I decided to simply add the item I needed from the cook with the console but hey now.. here's another glitch.. I can't cook! The only option I got is to
drug the wine
or tell that guy the truth ... I can go with the investigator route but I doubt the cook will appear or I could cook if I do this

I hate when shit like this happens :(
Not sure if that's a bug or because of a choice you made.

However, yes the engine is a complete joke. Why it has been used for so long is beyond me. By far the worst animations I have seen on a long time. Also the buggiest set of games. Fuck the engine.

At least we know that if Fallout 4 comes out this gen they will use the Skyrim engine which is supposed to be better

Although I doubt we'll see Fallout 4 this gen..

And...
I'm always afraid of making choices in the game since there are multiple choices in most quests and you can take quests that disable other quests if you don't do them in certain order

I always find my self going to Fallout Wiki before I make any choice or quest :\

I still have my fingers crossed that Obsidian has a Fallout game in development and they'll announce it within the next 6 months.

I started crashing going through doors again. Half the time when I relaunch the game there is an autosave with me on the other side of the door, other times I just have to go back to my last quick save.

Does anyone else get this?

Finished today, took 84 hours. Obviously the ending was a joke, but some scripted events were nice. Now waiting for Lonesome Road, and in the meantime I have Fallout 3 GotY to finish :)

How should I approach quests in this game? I'm just looking at Fallout Wiki and there's still factions I haven't discovered yet and many quests that could be done I haven't found yet

I don't want to miss anything or rather get the most out of the game but the game structure is kind of weird

For example there's the
Brother of Steel
which I haven't discovered yet but according to the Fallout Wiki they have many quests related to them

Do I just go to their place or what? Am I supposed to explore by myself or will the game lead me to them?

I was concerned about this as well. I got to the strip and it seemed there was so many places I hadn't been to. Then I found just following the first few strip quests opened up a ton of breadcrumb quests to go and see these other factions, who all had loads of other quests.

The oblivion TC "Nehrim" had about a 60% chace to crash to the desktop going through a door, so I've gotten into the habit of quick saving before doing that.

I lost all my save data from New vegas. Now the game seems like a turn off for me because I got so far. But I'm going to try to get back into it.

Creation engine is really just Gamebyro that's actually had some work done on it instead of being a stagnant piece of shit circa 2004.
Why do people keep saying this? It's been built from the ground up, they've said it over and over again. I highly doubt they'd be stupid enough to use Gamebryo in any way ever again. Also, won't be shocked if Fallout 4 is on idTech 5.

I had to start again too. Luckily I wasn't too far.

its not from the ground up, todd has said they rewrote some things and they thought they changed so much might as well give it a new name, its in a video interview.

and carmack already said rage engine couldn't do a open world bethesda like game so I hope not.

Fucking Bethesda is that dumb then... Any link to that interview?

nvm found it:
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/...gine-Advancements-and-Skill-Streamlining.html
We just felt that there was so much we could do with this current generation so we rewrote the entire renderer; we have full shadows and everything now; we rewrote all the caching; the AI systems; the quest systems; the dialogue; the interface; the animation system, we’re using Havoks behaviour system, which is one of the most advanced animation systems out there.

By the time we were done, we had rewritten all the gameplay, all the graphics in our engine... Enough that we’ve branded it the Creation Engine.

I've had this happen 4 times in Old World Blues so far, it's getting to the point that I am quick saving before I go through any doors.

Lol, I just got the Lord of Death perk after clearing out The Tops casino so I wouldn't have to give up my weapons everytime I visited Yes Man. On that topic, I wish it wouldn't wipe out my hot keys whenever I give up my weapons.

This game is too good. I've hardly set foot outside of the Strip in the past ten hours or so since there is so much to do. I'm trying to level up a bit before I head out and try to eradicate the Legion. :)

You do realize
that after you kill Benny, Yes Man is outside the casino and also you could have talked to Swank before killing Benny and he would have let you carry your weapons

He never came outside after I
killed Benny.
Must have been a bug, but oh well, I prefer to do things that way.

Some of my initial thoughts as well.

I finished OWB last night. Loved it so much. Really enjoyed the ending montage.

Feels a bit weird to be back in the Mojave, I spent at least 10 hours on the DLC. I feel a bit OP now, it's great. OWB gave me 10 levels and a handful of awesome weapons. First thing I did was head to the nearest Deathclaw area and own every one in sight with Elijah's LAER.

So. In Primm?

I thought the only buildings were the hotel, casino, courier station and the two shacks farther away.

I had NO clue there was a small series of white houses on the other side of the courier station.

I was walking to the station and saw white out of the corner of my eye. "holy shit, there's a house...there's LOTs of houses!"

Yeah the gear so far in OWB is insane, as you would expect from the lore perspective. It's a real classic Fallout zone too, one second you're cackling at the stuff being yelled at you while you're out in the Big MT (love the name too btw), the next you're in a fight for your life against a pack of marauding cyberdogs.

If you're playing on PC, there's a mod so your weapons aren't taken away. I only use it so I don't have to rebind my weapons. If I have to use a weapon I only use the ones that could be hidden.

On an unrelated note, I still can't decide which side to support to control New Vegas. I'm leaning toward myself because Yes Man is funny, but Mr. House seems like he would be a good leader since he already rebuilt Vegas. I don't really like NCR's ineffectiveness and land grab, but from what I read, they have the "good" end. Legion is just crazy and should be wiped out.

I'm near Primm too. I can't believe I didn't run along the rollercoaster the first time I got here.

I'm lvl 24 or 25 now. I have guns/science/repair/lockpick at 100. I should be good to start the DLC right?

I was holding off until I had good skills because I heard one of them takes all your equipment away.

Any suggestions on which DLC to do first?

im doing a ceasers legion asshole playthru basically all S,E,A melee and unarmed and killing all ncr when i them.

i swear with 10 S and E i feel like a damn terminator as 5 people shoot me and my health hardly drops at all.

Yeah, you're definitely fine to play the DLC.

They can be played in pretty much any order. I think OWB is by far the best out of the three, so maybe do that first. Or save the best for last. Up to you.

I just recruited Raul. He's awesome. What's a good weapon for him to use? I've read that he's a Gunslinger type characters, so was thinking of giving him a Ranger Sequoia.

You are good to do DLC. The one that takes your equipment away is Dead Money/Sierra Madre broadcast. Prepare to be frustrated.

This game freezes a lot when loading. Did they bother releasing some sort of patch for the problem?

I get two types of crashes.

1 - I load a save game and the roulette wheel screen appears. The wheel keeps spinning and never loads the game. On a regular load the wheel spinning animation will lag a few times. When it bugs out there is no lag the wheel spins smooth the whole time.

2 - I crash going outdoors. It seems to only happen on certain doorways. I never crash fast travelling to Novac and going in/out my room. When I was questing in Freeside everytime I left the King's hq I would crash.

Are you getting either of those?

-BLITZ-

Wait, so these types of crashes and loading couple of seconds on the wheel happens to me as well. The big problem is that I had such issues from what I remember, only when the game was released or when the first patch was made, but a very stable patched, then V1.2 was released and fixed these problems.

Had they put something back from the first patches or they pasted old files with the last patch overwriting what suppose to fix and bringing back the old bugs since their latest patch has a lot of information of what they presume to befixed.

My game was working much smoother before I install the last patch. And I thought I had patched my game with the last one wrong.

Nope, and I wouldn't call it frustrating at all, at least yet. I rolled in there at level 19 and I'm doing fine killing those ghost dudes with the throwing spears, despite my guns skill being like 30 and unarmed even lower.

Nice, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a waste of money/perks to get these extra slots before starting.

The bounties mod is fantastic, I don't want to give any spoilers, but it has a lot of pretty good references/cameos. Fits well with wild wasteland.

Ghost dudes are the least of your problems. I'm talking about speakers.

Thanks, going to check this out. Right now NV is on back burner, I'm playing F3 while waiting for Lonesome Road.

I didn't hate Dead Money, but it was most definitely my least favourite. Fuck those speakers. I liked HH and OWB a lot more.

I'm so hyped for Lonesome Road after finishing OWB. Especially after I found a pair of holotapes involving a certain someone while messing around in the Big MT (trying to avoid spoilers here). Won't be surprised if it's the best DLC when all's said and done.

on the far right, there's a white house! And actually there are like six of them with 2 of them burned down.

I'm on my THIRD playthrough and I had NO fucking clue that part of Primm existed. I WONDERED where the fuck the citizens were sleeping at night after you clear out the convicts from the hotel...I assumed the hotel.

I don't want to start my Evil playthrough until all the DLC are released.

I'm toying with the idea of doing a hardcore, very hard, evil playthrough. As I understand it, aligning with Caesar's Legion makes the game quite difficult - you don't get much friendly support, and their quests are pretty naff.

Anyone do an 'evil' run? Care to comment?

yeah so erm, the launcher for this is now crashing. any help?

I have the same problem. If you check the Steam forum for New Vegas, there are a lot of fixes, but not all of them seem to work consistently.

In the Steam library, I open up the properties of New Vegas and click on 'verify game cache files'. There is always one file that needs to be fixed, and usually it works after that. Even then, I tend to get a few more crashes before it finally launches. :( It's the only major tech issue I've had with this game.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Going through Honest Hearts right now. Lot of fun, loving it overall story-wise, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the whole tribal aesthetic. Guess I'm just a big fan of the more traditional fallout societies.

I had a game where I just killed everyone and everything I came across. You can make a lot of money looting, but not much XP since you aren't doing any missions.

Yeah, I'm playing evil but I decided against working with the Legion since my dude wouldn't put up with someone treating him like their bitch. So instead, I shot Caesar's head off (stealthboy+.44 to the back of the head). Escaping the fort was a pain, and now I have Legion squads coming after me, but it was worth it. I put him in his place.

The factions that like me are the White Gloves and the Omertas, but I'm only playing nice since we have similar goals.

WOW.

I'm actually right beside there and I just thought that was a gate that led nowhere but to invisible walls.

I'm actually up by Prospector's Gate..I was climbing the rollercoaster and I fell. >.> I fell on the other side of the gate so I keep walked up some mountains.

Then I fell again onto some raiders. Wasted two doctor's bags already.

But then I cleared this cove, and now merchants are inhabiting it! I love this game.

Ooh, I hate the White Gloves, I completely ignored all their sidequests. I did not want to deal with them, they just creep me the hell out.
