I guess I see it now. And you know, I could handle that bit of retconmanship, but I could not stand how F3 turned every vault into some bizarro social experiment. Even F2 didn't go that far (I think you find out that Vault 8 got all of Vault 13's water chips due to a shipping error).

Manos, totally. It but it wasn't something unexpected. The first 2 Fallouts had very grim scense - like Horrigan massacring a family, children included. On each playthrough I put the crucified powder gangers out there misery. Last night I ironically received the 'Lord of Death: Kill 200 Things' XP boost while doing so :l

The vaults being a social experiment was actually Tim Cain's idea and was developed for Fallout 2. It wasn't something Bethesda inserted into the world.

Aw shit, just heard about Lonesome Road being delayed. Oh well, I still have some things to clean up in the vanilla game as well as Old World Blues. Hopefully it's at least not too far into September.

Is there a recommended order I should go through the DLC? I recently hit the level cap and am getting to the part where factions are asking me to deal with other factions so I was thinking it's about time I hit the DLC so I'm actually gaining experience again but I'm not sure where I should start.
Normally I'd just start with Dead Money and go in chronological order, but I heard that Old World Blues has some cool items that I could bring into Honest Hearts and my main game and I think someone in this thread before said that Honest Hearts was a bit underwhelming after completing Dead Money so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of which I should get first.

Anyone wanna recommend a good all-around starting build? I'd like a character adept at guns but who can also talk his way out of situations. Thoughts on initial traits, skills, etc.?

Pump up IQ for skill points. Lower Something else or a couple of stats to get your IQ to 10.

Put skill points into guns, repair, speech and lockpick.

That will give you a lot of options in terms of the story as well as access to the good loot, the ability to take care of yourself and when you get repair high enough you'll be able to maintain all your favorite weapons easily.

Alright, just re-bought this for $10 in light of the recent gigantic bugfix patch (PS3). Let's hope I can jump back into my 24-ish hour save file without much difficulty.

I just beat the regular game in the Hoover Dam part. How does the DLC work, since there is no continuation after the ending? or is the DLC like a standalone game?

you should get a message telling a little about the DLC and that the level cap has been raised then the relevant quests will appear in your pip-boy

HELP.

I just started a new game, got ED-E right away and went back to Goodsprings to fight the Powder Gangers. I killed the PG and everyone thanks me, including Ringo. I walk into the bar and suddenly everyone was hostile to me, even after I was "idolized". I was able to fix this, though ED-E killed Ringo in the process, thankfully after the quest was finished.

So I get to primm and I'm seeing enemies over in the NCR area, which I had already explored and talked to the NPCs there. I was attacked by the NCR!

I walk into the Vicki and Vance casino and attacked by the residents of Primm (except the robot)!

WTF, why is everyone hostile to me?

And is there a mod out there I can use to fix this bug, if it is a bug? I'm wearing a Merc suit and ballcap w/ glasses, so it's not a costume issue.

double check your reputations, and equip/unequip some Powder Ganger armor, maybe it's stuck on. Any reps that are changed due to armor will not show up.

Where do you check NCR rep? I was going by hovering over the map icon and Primm has nothing. I'm idolized in Goodsprings.

I believe it's under the first tab were you see your health and stuff...there should be a text box that says karma or rep or something.

Never mind, it's the last box on the first button on your Pip-Boy, "General". Lists your faction karam and general karma.

I'm starting a new game and I want to do as much as possible. How do I help clear out the NCR prison? From what I can tell I have to get into the prison and agree to help the powder gangers, but then betray them to the NCR. But I'm always villified by them after I'm done in Goodsprings. Can I skip helping the people in Goodsprings and then head to the prison and do that and then come back and help Goodsprings? It just seems weird there's no other way to start the quest.

i dont find it that weird because the non-powergamer option would be to kill off Goodsprings then head to the prison. Not to get as much xp and see as much of the game as possible in one go.

You don't find primers and powders, you break it down from other bullets.
But I USE my bullets. ALL OF THEM. And the ones I don't I can't really use for making handloads. 5mm isn't really going to help me when I want 12.7mm...

You can also choose to help the Powder Gangers and kill the inhabitants of the town. It's up to you how far you want to go.

I'm level 10 and in New Vegas now, I feel like I've come straight here without doing many quests or exploring (aside from the ones in the towns along the way). I think I don't have great weapons. On the plus side my blackjack luck seems to be hitting quite hard and i've hit the jackpot limit in Gomorrah as well as at the one casino in Freeside.

Should I go level up some more and come back?

I got Boone, climbed on the hill near the NCRCF armed with a scoped hunting rifle and a silenced sniper rifle, and went to town.

Once everyone outside was dead, I sweeped the indoors area, saving Eddie for last.

There's a lot of stuff to do outside of New Vegas, that's for sure. I would say: go explore. See the sights. Be careful though, because Cazadores and Deathclaws can fuck your shit up at level 10. Level up a bit. It's not neccesary, but it is fun.

For instance, I just entered the Strip with my new character... At level 30. I've done a shit-ton of quests, but couldn't ignore the strip any longer.

Definitely go out and explore, do some more side quests. No rush to get to the city.

Before I started Old World Blues I was level 20 with around 23 hours played without ever going to the actual Strip.

I mean, it's not a necessity I suppose, but there's so much interesting stuff that isn't part of the main quest line.

I'm going to use all my bullets.... on myself. :(

Downloaded the texture pack, any other interesting graphic mods?

I'd say to go with Director's Chair (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43002) and a weather mod of your choice if you don't like vanilla weather (there's a wealth of them, and pretty much every one of them has pros and cons.. I've been using Project Reality lately, but the most popular is probably Nevada Skies, which I don't think looks good at all, but tastes, I suppose).

There's a lot of little texture replacers too, so honestly, the best way to get a look you're comfortable with is to experiment.

Am I doing it wrong? I can't play for more than a couple of hours at a time on the 360. It hardlocks eventually while in the loading screen after going through a door... I have it installed on the HD (it was doing it when it wasn't installed). I have no DLC.

I'm gonna come back to this game. Find a list of all Quests/DLC/Points of interest I missed and do them all. Will the last DLC alter the endgame?

I was going to answer you only needed one, but you're actually right: in Fallout, one bullet to the head rarely does the trick!
Pisses me off every time I confront Benny.

Hahaha, did the same thing. Couldn't even take him out in a single stealth shot.

"Poetic justice, bitch... Take that!... And that! And that! And that!

...

Just crucify him, guys."

I would suggest starting up the main quest with Mr. House/NCR/Wild Card/Legion and then start exploring while you walk around trying to meet each faction. There's a lot of locations along the trip and you're bound to run into a few good quests. Have you picked up a companion yet?

So after Leveling Speech/Guns/Lockpick/Repair to 100 I was thinking - Melee or Energy Weapons? Since Energy Weapons suck balls in general in F:NV I went with Melee.

Boy, oh boy, it's so much fun to demolish everyone with Proton Axe. Cazadores die in 2 hits!

It really sounds like an armour issue. In my first run, I had good relations with the NCR, yada yada. After I cleared out the prison for them, I returned wearing the powder gangers guard armour, and the whole base turned on me. Then I remembered that little message "You are now dressed as a member of the so and so."

I feel bad about blaming Bethesda for the social experiment thing. I still think they took it too far though.

There is no reputation to Primm; it was cut from the game.

According to the Fallout wiki at least.

Eh, I would be for me, it's just that most of the parts are so very rare. Finding primers and powder sucks.
You can buy both at shops. Primers come around easily if you have good repair skills and break down bullets often. Getting powders is a little more difficult, since breaking down bullets doesn't give you much, so i tend to just buy a couple jars at shops whenever i get a chance.

I like using the hunting shotgun with magnum bullets. Those require pistol powder to make, which means i can't do any recycling and i'm left to just buy the jars. They're kind of expensive but they're worth it :)

What? I'm one shotting deathclaws with my gauss rifle! (sneak attack crits, but still)

Still going on my first playthrough and I finally got sick enough of the radio songs to turn it off... this game is really fucking dark, isn't it? The campy songs on the radio really lighten the otherwise dreary mood even in the worst of situations. However the moment I turned the radio off, suddenly the fact that this game is based on a post-apocolyptic wasteland seemed a lot more obvious.

I'm not sure how much I'll listen to it for the rest of the game, the ambiance that comes through otherwise it awesome, but it's just so gloomy.

Granted, the game is awesome either way. It just shows the power of music when it comes to atmosphere.

What are the chances of a complete version being released this year? ie. the game plus all dlc on a retail disc.

I bought it two days ago, so it's 100% and it should be soon.

56 hours in. Still not entered the Vegas strip.
So much to do, just wandering around.
Think I'll just poke my head into this large building/vault/cave system for a look-see...come out 45 minutes later, loaded with loot.

Just gave Boon my Gobi Sniper rifle + ammo. He's a beast.

I skipped the fight, found a rocket launcher, came back, and waited til they were all grouped up, and then shot a rocket.

I had Nevada Skies on so it decided to rain as the bodies flew all over the place, it was GLORIOUS.

For me, I simply couldn't resist going in to the Strip! I covered a lot of the map before doing so, but it felt so empty (for me) in comparison to F3. Might give it another go tonight though :)
