FO1/FO2 weapon related spoiler below

Just picked up a pistol called "that gun". It shoots 556 and looks/sounds pretty cool. Googling says this is a gun from Blade Runner that was in the original Fallouts? (never played em)
Yep.
The design for the .223 was taken from BR. Looks really cool though :) From the wiki site.. According to Josh Sawyer, its name is derived from the fact that players referred to it as "That Gun from Fallout and Fallout 2"

That's exactly how I'm playing: hardcore, wild wasteland and normal difficulty.

Can't wait to play more. But I'll have to battle my wife for who gets to play, she loved Fallout 3!

I was at Gamestop earlier today and saw someone pick up their collectors edition preorder. Clerk told the guy that any bonuses are inside the box. Don't know how true that is though.

Reluctant-Hero said:
The "pre-order bonus" for the Gamestop classic pack was packaged inside my standard edition. I expect it should inside the case for the CE as well. It seems like all first print Gamestop copies will have the code packaged inside.

Wierd that they made process the purchase transaction for the standard ed. They could have just cancelled your pre-order and moved any pre-paid credit onto the purchase of the CE. I bet they just wanted to buff the numbers of completed pre-orders and not show a lost/cancelled pre-order.

ZealousD said:
The codes should be in the box. I was absolutely sure to check to see if the codes were receipt based during the midnight launch last night, but the only receipt codes for that day were Vanquish and EA MMA.

If you ever get shafted on receipt codes in the future (it can happen, employees have to manually scan/punch in the SKU), you can always go back to the GameStop and have them print off a code. The POS system doesn't actually check to see if the game is on the same transaction as the code SKU, so employees can print off as many codes as they conceivably want or need.

Thanks for the replies. I'm very relieved, because the only reason I ordered from Gamestop instead of Amazon was that bonus. Because, seriously? Amazon got hosed, and Gamestop's bonus is ridiculously good.

ZealousD said:
That's exactly what happened. Cancelled pre-orders count against the person who is doing the cancelling. Doing a return requires an extra step, but it doesn't cost the customer anything and it benefits the employee running the transaction.
Really? I guess that explains why the dude was kind of pissed when I canceled my Alpha Protocol pre order.

I'm signing the letter as well. Off to Gamestop immediately after work today.

haven't claimed my preorder pack yet. Never had one of those before. Is that something that you can only download and use once, or does it let you start every new game with it?

Played just over an hour so far. It's just like Fallout 3, by which I mean awesome.

Doing hardcore, no Wild Wasteland. Next playthrough will be WW, and possibly hc-free, depending on how I feel about it after this round.

Oh man, just lost about 30 minutes of progress because one of my saves reverted back to a previous one on Steam. For you pc players only use the manual saves and not the auto or quick ones. There is an issue of the game overwriting the saves with old ones.

I had internet issues, so I was only able to just now update. I preordered the game, and the pre-load was like 14 GBs. It just updated with another 5 GBs. But when I check the game's properties, it says it is only using like 6.5 GBs. Where is the rest of that game data?

Something to do with cloud saves is wacky. It was suggested to change the game to Offline mode so it can autosave properly.

So, got the PS3 version for $20 so I couldnt help but pick it up. Looks like FO3. There is absolutely no AA in this game. I have not run into a glitch or freeze yet an hour in. If you could handle the graphics in FO3 no biggy. If you have a choice it goes like this PC>360>PS3.

EDIT: I am not that great about telling framerates (thank god) but it seems "ok" as in 30fps most of the time. I am positive it dips below that though.

Havent read all the pages here, but i thought i heard that there was going to be a day 1 patch to address the crashes, etc....

Any word on that?

To wild wasteland or to not wild wasteland

that is the question right now

uggghh

Yeah, is it just a bunch of inside jokes from FO1&2, or is it 'stuff that some felt really didn't belong in the game' or however one of the devs/producers described it. If I turn it on, will it detract from the game at all or only enhance it?

:O holy shit this game looks goood.... PC noob. I've played about an 1 hour or so. I was on the reflection thing for about 50 minutes. I can't wait for Character model mods. The game is already better than F3.... All I've done was steal from 2 or 3 houses. :lol :lol. Not sure about 1600X1200 res though :lol I just quit to post this, I hope that save glitch doesn't get me. Kisses PC! I was mad about all the issues I was reading hope you guys can resolve those soon.

Change it to Offline mode. Its a problem with cloud saves.

I'm curious if Wild Wasteland is a good thing to go with on the first playthrough. Might be better for another playthrough, if it unleashes a bunch of goofy stuff onto the game world. Still not sure what it really does.

Hmm, I don't like it that food doesn't heal right away now, it heals over time. Not good for when you need a quick heal in battle.

That's one of the modifications of Hardcore mode, I believe. And it should result in far more strategic combat because it has to - you are much more vulnerable.

Random Impressions with minor spoilers;

Glad I picked Wild Wasteland as one of my first 2 perks. I'm sure everyone has already discovered this but near Goodsprings
you'll find a decayed gambler in a refrigerator or something. You can loot a spiffy gambler hat off him. Doesn't really do much, just +1 perception, but it looks cool.

I never played any Fallout game before so this is all new to me. Haven't had many bugs, although I can't seem to find Sunny. Not sure she died as I can't find her corpse either. I think what happened is I accidentally killed her during the bandit raid right before killing Cobb, so my reputation went to shit before going to idolized again because I saw a message telling me the town hated my savagery or something like that.

Really need a mod for the HUD, though. Playing on normal Hardcore, and I'm tired of checking pip-boy every 5 minutes to see my eat, sleep, and H20 stats. I'd honestly be willing to clog up the hud more with that type of streamlined info.

.357 magnum is beast! But damn ammo is scarce. Just rescued the Deputy from the casino in Primm and I'm already out of the Caravan Shotgun shells. Want to specialize in regular guns, charisma, medicine, and not much else, but in order to use those reloading stations I might need to focus some on repair. It baffles me how to use them though since I haven't come across any Lead, either in shops or out in the field.

Now you guys are starting to make me feel bad for having wild wasteland on lol. Now I don't know whether to start a new game to start fresh and turn it off or what. What if I miss an awesome item?!? Ugh.

I'm really busy at work but this wait is still killing me. It's frustrating to jump on Steam and look at the percentage of players who have completed the achievements and know that I can't join them yet because of some arbitrary unlock date.

Although it was funny to see these ones so soon after release:

- 0.6% of players have found all the snow globes
- 0.9% of players have been banned from every casino
- 1.8% of players have completed the game on hardcore

Freeeeeeeeeeeaks.

to get lead:
Dismantle a piece of scrap metal

not sure if that's a spoiler or not, but what the hell.

Shit, I just finished a 5 hour play session and I'm loving it. I'm liking the story vibes more than I did in 3. Hopefully the new Nvidia will fix the visual glitches/framerate drops.

I don't have hardcore mode on.... Playing on normal.

Oh, it does that by default now?

Good! :p

It was far, far too easy in Fallout 3 to simply load up on stimpacks and spam them in combat. It was a very non-challenging game, ultimately.

I am not Max
I can't decide on whether I want to play with Wild Wasteland and Hardcore mode on or not

Never played FO2 so WW might go right over my head and I'm afraid Hardcore might just be a nuisance rather than an added challenge for the experience.

i think stimpacks heal instantly without hc mode, it's just food that takes time.

No they heal over time but quickly though. Like 5 seconds or so for a complete stimpack heal from what I've seen so far. Playing on normal with hardcore mode on. Protip: steal the doctor's bag before you leave the doctor's house at the beginning, you're going to need it.

Also, the Gamestop pre-order dlc makes hardcore mode a bit easier since you keep taking sips from your canteen whenever you get thirsty.

Does the Steam cloud save bug only affect the autosave? Or should I put it into offline even if I don't use autosaving?

BTW, I did start over, and all I will say is anyone who was a big gun nut like me in the old games needs to go Explosives. Straight up, fuck all the other weapons. That is all.

I don't know how I'm going to use my new character. My main playthrough guy in Fallout 3 was a goody-two shoes for the most part, but that meant also I lost out on some loot. I do remember killing all the slavers at Paradise Falls though and got a ton of loot there.

Well, I'm already stuck. I'm supposed to find Xander root or brockflower at this school during the tutorial but I can't find it anywhere. :(
