i think stimpacks heal instantly without hc mode, it's just food that takes time.

Yeah. I was used to being able to get into my food stash if I ran out of stimpacks, now that food takes time it doesn't do as much good.

Use the local map if you can't find it. If you still can't find it
check the tree trunk next to the school

It's outside the school, right up against one of the tree stumps on the side of the building.

This part confused the hell out of me at first, because both of those
look like background art. It turns out there are multiple plants that look like just scenery that you can loot for stuff.

Ugh...the agony of extreme indecision...

Buy now: Get to play instantly!

Wait for GOTY: more content, fewer bugs, mods available....but lots of waiting!

It hurts, GAF...so hard.

So anyone know how many more skill points a high int gives you? Is it enough to just totally be an expert in a ton of different areas when you're near cap?

Seriously! Whats with the orange tag and the do not sell till 10/19/210. That has to be the first time I have ever seen that on a PS3 game. They wanted to hide the bugs for as long as they could. :lol

You get +1 skill point per point of INT per level.

You can't quite master everything like in FO3 because there's very few actual skill books. Most of them are magazines. Comprehension only grants +1 point per permanent book.

Going from a 5 INT to a 10 INT (assuming you started at 10 INT) would give you +145 skill points purely from levels by the time you hit level 30.

Those are pretty much on every game that has a set street date. They only go on the initial shipments.

lol I got owned by this too when I started, I didn't look at the floor since everything looked nearly the same.

Be careful later on, some mission triggers do not work; so you have to reload a save.

I can see the review embargo doing that, but tons of games do the 'do not sell by' date thing.

So is the PC version running ok for anyone with an nvidia card?

I only have a 260 so I cannot brute force out of bad framerates like a higher end card would.

You're joking right? That happens all the time to games that are street-dated. It has nothing to do with how horribly buggy this game is.

Just making a joke about the bugs. I'm installing it now. Just never seen a game with that tag and I play a lot of games.

Glad I picked Wild Wasteland as one of my first 2 perks. I'm sure everyone has already discovered this but near Goodsprings
you'll find a decayed gambler in a refrigerator or something. You can loot a spiffy gambler hat off him. Doesn't really do much, just +1 perception, but it looks cool.

 ...
Isn't that
Indiana Jones' hat?

the pointers on the map show EXACTLY where these two things are

I had a hard time at first also I was standing right where the marker was but I forgot that you can zoom in very close on the map and that helps...
there`s 3 of them right besides the big tree that`s down.

I`m up to the Ringo part, that`s all I say about that except i`m level 1 still hehe...I`ll try and kill a few coyotes to see if I can reach level 2 before I start the Ringo thing...

I was wandering around and found some farmstead. I go in and loot some stuff and then suddenly my hud fills up with reds. A bunch of Vipers show up from nowhere and bottle me in the trailer I was looting.
I was trying to do my best Kenshiro but there were just too many so I let the 10mm submachinegun explode and it just cut through them like butter.

At least I scored some cooler leather armor. I guess it'll be another day before I feel confident enough to make everything explode with my fists.

If you have 10 Int, you'll get 15 skill points per level up. For every 1 less in Int, you can subtract 0.5 from your skill points at level up.

My character has 8 Int, so he'll always receive 14 skill points per level.

But with 7 Int you'll earn 13.5 skill points. So when you hit level two, you can spend 13 skill points. Then when you hit level three, you get 14 skill points. Your skill points then drop back to 13 when you hit level 5.

I learned all that from the guide. I know I'm not explaining as clear as the guide does, but hopefully you understand me. :lol

Any questions?

In Luck what are enemy mishaps?

Critical failures! Varying results really but it is generally "OH BUTTFUCK I JUST ROLLED A 1" in D&D.

Only one I've seen so far was a dude that was eyeballing me for a stick of dynamite. I actually didn't even know he was there until the boom went off. :lol

The achievement page has been that way since before launch.

I've played about 8 hours and Hardcore mode is a gimmick. Instant travel and doctor visits still break the game. Drinking fountains/toilets, beds, and food are very plentiful. Even on Very Hard, hunger and sleep increase at a snails pace. The AI is dumb as ever, falling for chasing you through doors almost every time. It's still easy (and most efficient) to buff lockpicking and sneak and rob every place blind for better equipment. Even the games Help page admits Karma is almost entirely supplanted by Reputation.

I would suggest the following alterations on Hardcore mode. Instant travel should only be possible while above 50% health. If you got into a bad fight and got torn up, you should have brought something to heal yourself at least halfway, instead of teleporting to a doctor. Doctors heal and de-rad price should be higher than 50-100 caps, so you'll rely on your own healing items more often. Drinking fountains should be more rare and have a higher rad hit to prevent abuse, or eventually run out, making you rely more on potable water. With that change I'd also suggest making more water items actually reduce thirst instead of increase it. Finally I'd suggest severely limiting game saves outside of safe or populated areas or your own set up camps - quicksave/quickload is as easy to abuse as ever.

tl;dr - Fallout: New Vegas's 'survival' aspects are still too easy and easily broken even on Hardcore Very Hard. I have a harder time 'surviving' in your average left 4 dead map.

So is it worth doing or does it just add tedious baby-sitting tasks to worry about?

I tried that mouse acceleration fix but I don't think it worked. Forget the crashes and missing game-saves, the wonky mouse is this game's biggest crime... but otherwise, it's great! :D

It's still worth doing because the stimpack/de-rad heal over time prevents a little of the most excessive abuse of those items. Ammo weight is also a nice touch and you'll have to choose what ammo and guns to bring with you instead of only what guns to bring. But yeah the hunger/thirst/sleep thing is more of a babysitting task rather than a feeling of surviving a harsh wasteland.

Obsidian should've included a Blink gauge--tap E to blink every three seconds or face -10 to Perception.

id actually like instant travel to mimic the dotter line travel of fallout 1 and 2, with chance of interupts, that would be awesome.

You can game the game if you want, but I'm going to role play to maximize the fun - get into it a little bit.

The way Hardcore mode handles limb damage and disabilities is definitely hardcore. I almost got tripped up when Powder Gangs started lobbing dynamite at me, disabled my eyes, fortunately I had a Doctors Bag with me. That alone has upped the risk factor of venturing out.

My HDTV broken down a month ago and I just got it fixed today. 400$.

There's a lot of games I missed but until next month where I can breathe more easily financially, Fallout: New Vegas will tide me over. Such a big game.

Love it!

Yeah, some kind of nvidia bug. I'd keep an eye out for new drivers, they're pretty quick to respond to big releases.

My thoughts exactly. While I haven't had any limbs crippled yet, I'll do my nest avoid it. So far I only have two doctor bags in my possession. Both my right leg and arm are almost half way crippled.

Getting fixed up by the doc in Good Spings is 100 caps, that's 1/3 of my total caps.

I love that hardcore mode has me weighing my options like this. I also know I'll be pooping myself when I'm in danger of losing companions to perma-death!

Did it take anyone a long time to decrypt the preloaded game? I've had it decrypting for the past 15 minutes and it is at 41% and hasn't moved in a while.

I want to play Fallout :(

Yeah keep up with the impressions of hardcore mode. I'm mostly just worried that it's going to be too limiting on weapons and what not that I can carry with me because of ammo weight, I hope it's not too much of a burden in that regard.

I wish I had the option to play hardcore without the companion perma-death on. Sure it could create some tense moments but the follower AI is so dumb it just seems like it'll be a chore keeping their asses out of trouble.

Mecklemore Is My Favorite Wrapper
Today, I almost died of thirst, had to run away from a deathclaw (something I never had to do in FO3) and have had to make decisions on what to carry with me. When I tried to please everybody, I ended up pleasing nobody. I had to make a choice, and live with the consequences, between two groups - neither side entirely bad.

This. This is how a motherfucking RPG should operate.

Haven't tried NV yet but it *should* be a case of holding down a number and selecting an item in your inventory.

If an item or container is red then you will need to Sneak to steal it without others knowing. If you loot when you have [HIDDEN] status you should be fine. i agree it is retarded but its how the engine handles ownership of items or whatever. Gamebryo cant go quick enough.
