I'm so far just putzing around outside
Goodsprings
. I tried going north and got totally wasted by a baby Deathclaw. It's actually taking some getting used to not being a level 20+ godlike character from FO3 with instant AP refill if I kill something in VATS. Has anyone found any good safe containers to put loot in? I've not really visited many places, but I'm already over-encumbered.
Perhaps you should have spoiler tagged that instead of that town name. The town name isn't really a spoiler. Regardless, I can't wait to see one of those. Hopefully it won't be scary as my counter with not one, but FOUR Deathclaws......and surviving. (Story of that here)

All RPG's have min max potential, but none has ever been as bad as the Fallout series, by a LONG shot. The games just become way to easy that any and all challenge is gone halfway through.

If you are playing Fallout games to be challenged, you are doing it wrong.

Damn that d3d9 .dll fixed everything about my performance.

Now it's 60+ on Ultra all the time. Good stuff. Great stuff.

I'm only 3 hours in, but I'm really loving this game. To me at least, it feels a lot more like "Fallout" than Fallout 3 did. I liked Fallout 3 a lot, but something about the atmosphere, characters, and writing feel much more like the old games to me. I'm sure the setting has a lot to do with this, as well.

This. Game feels much more in the vein of Fallout 1 and 2, even if the setup was a bit trite. I did like the character building tutorial which was brilliantly short.

edit: I'm also playing in hardcore mode, and while I haven't much noticed the differences yet, I already enjoy it more just knowing that I have to keep track of food, water, and sleep. It makes my scavenging that much more meaningful!

I like the idea, but its such a minor concern so far, I haven't been bothered. Perhaps this will change later into the game, but its not proving to be any obstacle. I just make sure to have some food and water on me.

I just finished Primm last night and
I was able to successfully reprogram the robot into the town's Sheriff, but the deputy ended up not liking that due to the robot's binary view of the law. Now I wish I had gone looking for the ex-sheriff that was captured & jailed.

Aw screw 'em. He was a pansy taking credit for your kills. Him not agreeing to it is a fucking badge of honor in my opinion.

Seriously? The house / storage place question has been asked like 12 times in this thread and still no answer! (I'm barely into the game, so I don't have one, btw). :)

You can get mobile storage in
Primm
if your repair and science are high enough....

I had the NCR take over, the deputy gets kick out of the police force and they have to pay taxes now, seems like none of the endings of that quest is that good

I recruited the Ex-Sheriff from the NCR Prison and everything seems fine I guess. Plus his radio announcements are cool :D

Well, it's not really so much a baby as just labeled as "Young." It looks virtually identical to any other Deathclaw, perhaps scaled down very slightly.

Wow, so I finally made it to New Vegas in my game. It was pretty flawless up to that point. No crashes, weird graphical glitches, or anything serious (I wasn't able to finish the optional robot mission for whatever reason though...)

New Vegas is one BUGGY ASS piece of shit. Crashes left and right. Enter a casino? Crash! go to steam room for quest? CRASH! Everywhere a CRASH CRASH!

Damn there seems to be much larger groups of enemy's off the road then in 3 and alot more mines on the road.
In hardcore mode, not noticing land mines is so terrible since they instantly cripple your limbs. I found that out the hard way when I
walked across the overpass from the NCR camp and into Primm
.

Yeah, had to reload my save right there :lol . Turned off hardcore mode soon after, though more because it was becoming annoying compulsively checking three different pip-boy screens to see the different timers. I wish they had integrated that better somehow.

Ah bloody hell, I seem to have run into what others ran into yesterday with my quick save reverting to some quick save I made hours earlier.

Thanks for the heads up!

Is there a way to dectect land mines on your radar/compass? If so, I assume you need a high perception score? Or can
ED-E
detect them and show them on my radar?

Crashed last night and lost a lot of play time to that ridiculous steam cloud / autosave not really saving bug...

I thought a fix was posted for this? Do I have to do anything besides restart steam to get it?

Ugh. Makes me really not want to play anymore.

Does anyone have a link to the d3d file to download and place in the game folder that improves performance? I'm wary of all the links out there.
The DLL file that everyone has been linking to is the same one that's already somewhere in your Windows folder. You can just copy that one over to the Fallout folder instead.

Turn Steam Cloud off in the properties for NV in your Library. Yeah, no accomplishments, but if you only play through once, you're not getting full value out of your gaming purchase. Either than or play in Offline Mode. Either one has worked fine for me.

Thanks. I had planned on doing this but then I read somewhere that a fix was out for the issue. Apparently, they are liars.

Will go ahead and disable steam cloud tonight and see how it goes.

When you start the game and it asks you about Hardcore mode, it says there's a reward at the end of the game for beating it this way. Is the reward just the achievement / trophy / bragging rights? ... or do I need to wait until someone beats it with and without to know for sure? I don't care about the achievement, but if there's extra content...

So is there any preferred way to gain entry into the strip? 2,000 credits is pretty steep. If I go scavenging I'll probably have to spend some of the credits I earn on supplies and healing.

I don't think disabling Steam Cloud is the answer, though I hear Offline Mode will work.

PS3 version here and I haven't had any glitches or bugs aside from NPCs walking into walls and enemies being under the terrain (you know, there's the red dot there and you hear them, but they aren't visible). I'm about 4 hours in and enjoying it thoroughly.

I don't think manual saves are exempt from this problem, though you are less likely to encounter it if you do.

Can confirm manual saves are not exempt from the problem.

Crashed, restarted, went to the load game screen and it was like I had not even played my last session.

Manual saves, Auto saves, and Quick saves were all reverted.

So is there overall karma?

I don't like that I lose karma for killing powder gangers...

EDIT: Maybe I don't

I also don't like that stealing from bad guys is negative karma...

Where did you find this Night Scope?

The only mod I've found, and bought, so far is a larger clip of 8 bullets for the varmint rifle. And that was at the General Store in Goodsprings.
I found a rifle with one in a cave near Nipton (rifle was called the rodentkiller I think) along with a radiation suit.

Also, this thread has turned into a bug thread. I haven't seen a single issue (360). The game is awesome.

Btw, does anyone know if the player will ever be able to wear the outfit shown in the game cover? It's almost Helghast-ish and it looks stupendous.

No, since comprehension sucks now. Just hold on to them until you need a boost to complete a skill check.

That plus the font of the game title on the start screen, I cant help but think of Killzone every time I boot up the thread

Well the books only boost your stats temporarily but they increase them much more (10 points, I think). There is a perk that allows you to remember the stuff longer. There seems to be alot more of them than in FO 3. Although I need a lockpick one to
open a safe in Novac. I got a feeling the answer to the quest about the dudes missing wife is in there

Fallout: New Vegas patch coming 'as quickly as possible

"We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms," says Bethesda. "Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming."

You're farther into the game than I am, but if there's anything to learn from playing Fallout games, if the apparent solution is monetary there's ALWAYS an alternate solution.

So, after the DLC exclusive to 360 debacle, in a fit of passion I emailed Steam to cancel my pre-order. They did nothing, so I begrudgingly

played at midnight release day. Got hooked, forgot all about my tissy fit. Go to play today, that shit was refunded and no longer in my library! The nerve... needless to say I'm buying it again... haha
game is so good.

im wondering if some of this is beyond a console level patch, cant they only be a certain size and only effect the executable (and not any assests?), Sure the pc version can be patched out the ass, but I worrying about a recall here if things continue.

Man, I can't believe I'm already almost 7 hours in. Damn.

Love it so far. It doesn't quite have the epic scale of Fallout 3, there have been no moments like escaping the vault or seeing ruined national monuments, but in a way I like the smaller scale and the California theme. It's too early to call, but so far I think it is the better game (over F3) because of all the little improvements like more satisfying weapons and the hardcore mode. It sucks I gotta shut it down soon cause I could play this until the end of the night, so good.

almost 7 hours and not a single noticeable bug or lock up
