It looks cool but you will have infamy with NCR and you keep running into a ton of ncr troops all the time so it will be unnecessary. If you wanna see it just do a save before the terminal and try it out, thats what I did.

Oh really, that gives you negative rep with them? That's too bad.

Does it work as a decent weapon at least?

I never took on companions in FO3 but I'm rollin' three deep in New Vegas. Something satisfying about seeing armor you've found on your partners and they act as perfect mules.

A quick update from me based on anecdotal evidence, copying the d3d9.dll file from the Windows directory did little to nothing, but for some reason downloading the file from NewVegasNexus forums helped significantly. It's odd, as the file from there is about a tenth the size of the ones in my Windows subdirectories (there were four of them that were about 1.7 to 1.9 MB, while the downloaded one was about 170 KB).

yeah I got the one from that bug compilation site (went to megaupload , was like 170k also, HUGE performance increase, apparently it was a custom edited d3d dll made for fallout 3 by a fan)

also J.E. Sawyer commented about bugs in the Somethingawful thread about new vegas, you cant see it without being reigistered, but I have an account so I'll post it here.

Someone earlier asked if we (Obsidian/Bethesda) knew about the PC bugs that people are currently experiencing. I can't comment on every bug, but I can comment on the higher profile ones:

* Auto/quicksaving bug - I can honestly say that we never saw that bug or heard it reported prior to release. I played the game primarily (and extensively) on the Xbox 360 and PC (I also played on the PS3, but not as much) and never saw anything like that. We are looking into it right now because obviously it's (very) bad.

* NVIDIA + water = lol - This is a known issue that was introduced with NVIDIA's drivers as of (I think) two revs ago. It can affect Fallout 3 as well. We are still discussing it with NVIDIA.

* NPC faces = slow framerate - I hadn't heard of this prior to launch, but I'm going to talk to Frank (our lead programmer) about it.

* CTD Apocalypse - CTDs are often very hard to diagnose, so honestly maybe we have seen "your" issue before, maybe we haven't. These are the hardest to figure out. My apologies. We have to take them on a case by case basis.

* Video Card N + Sound Card Y + This Driver = Death/Bad Framerate - Chances are high that we didn't know that a certain combination of hardware/drivers/some other software would result in something bad happening because, quite frankly, PC compatibility testing is logistically really, really, really hard. That's not an excuse, but I hope it serves as an explanation. Anything that seems to affect a significant number of users and is systemic is something we can hopefully look into.

Please don't take my lack of commentary on bugs to mean that I don't care about them. I just want to avoid hazarding guesses and doing remote amateur troubleshooting. Bethesda's support/testing teams are coordinating known bugs and new reported bugs through to us. I know it's frustrating. I hate seeing people experiencing bugs. We are addressing them as we learn more information about them.

well killing their entire regimen stationed there with the press of a button obviously gives you a bad rep with the NCR

Which part are you doing? Freeside is a pain in the ass to navigate around in, because the zoning locations are weird, and it took me forever to find
Elizabeth Kieran
because she's not even in Freeside proper. If you're looking for
Julie Farkas and the Kings followers, they're in the Old Mormon Fort, which is this giant white-walled structure with a huge wooden door. The entrance to it should, I think, show on your mini-map

BTW, I highly recommend anyone running AA to turn OFF transparency multisampling in the advanced options. It is far too taxing for what you gain.

Wait,
can't you activate the weapon without killing the NCR soldiers?

Yeah, I just picked up my second one. I was surprised too, since I didn't know they had upped the companion limit. Is there a limit to how big your posse can get? :lol

I bought mine from Chet. Also the scope and clip extender for the 9mm is pretty awesome.

If he doesn't have it, just wait three days outside his shop and check to see what he has.
goddamn it I killed Chet... :( He isn't the best mod seller in the game or something ..? :(

I'm rolling with Wild Wasteland. Feels good, man.

Same here. I've been playing Wild Wasteland + Hardcore mode + Hard difficulty. It's quite fantastic. One of my biggest problems with vanilla Fallout 3 was that it was a very easy game, but so far I'm finding it not to be the case this time around. It's due to things like Hardcore mode and the fact that you aren't always aiming 95% at the person's head in VATS from seemingly any distance.

I also increased the challenge for myself by making a speech/sneak/survival-based character, living off his wits in the wild. One of the first two initial perks I picked was Good Natured, which removes points from a number of your weapon skills and adds them to your mental abilities (i.e. barter, speech, science, etc).

Transparency multisampling usually isn't that taxing. It's transparency supersampling that kills your frames.

I'm still running an old ass Q6600+8800GTX combo and I have everything on Ultra @ 1680x1050, minus water multisampling on "low." Getting a non-stuttery 30-50 FPS outdoors and 60 inside.

Are you sure you don't mean water multisampling? That's what destroys your performance outside. Transparency multisampling is very beneficial to the image quality when it comes to things like chain-link fences and foliage and such, and it shouldn't be that taxing on most cards, especially newer ones.

Is there a Child Killer mod yet?

Dunno, but apparently the new G.E.C.K. mod tools contain the specific ability to mod in "low-intelligence dialogue options," which gets my pecker up.

Nope.
anyone outside the facility dies. Its a giant lazer beam from the sky hitting 15 feet away from the front door. It even says in the options that when you activate achimedes testing or whatever the ncr troops will die.

Yeah, I thought this was killing my framerate at the one spot I mentioned (inside the Primm casino) but it's not actually this setting.

I don't really get what the deal is because I have 60 FPS almost everywhere except this fucking casino. Adding the d3d9.dll to the NV folder puts me at around 32 FPS in there when looking in from the entrance.

judging from the modified date of 10/20 (everything else is at 10/19) the patch downladed a new FalloutNV.exe and FalloutNV.esm

exe is about 16 megs and the esm is 240
will the few mods I have be compatible?

I said fuck it, the exclusive DLC is probably just timed anyways, and ordered the PS3 CE from GameStop.com today. Can't wait to get it. Oh and GameStop.com has more of the collector's editions for all three platforms back in stock.

Yeah I think I'm looking for Elizabeth right now. There seems to be another part to Freeside, within the same zone, but I can't find any way to get over there. Theres a ton of rubble in between us. I'm loving this game but sometimes it can be a pain in the ass to find stuff.

Hrm, maybe I missed that because I activated the option but didn't go outside to look. I didn't get any warnings or whatever.

I know there's an option to
activate the automated defenses to kill all the NCR troops
though, but I guess they are one and the same?

Unlocked a day early and I don't have my new video card yet. Off I go to get it now then!

What, it unlocked early? Still says 1 day left for me. :(

It seems retail PC copies won't be on sale here until next month. I said fuck it and bought it on Steam. Pre-loading now.

I have a question. If I use a US VPN to get the game unlocked, and then I revert to my normal local connection, will I still be able to play the game, and can I get banned from Steam?

Wow I just did the "That Lucky Old Sun" quest at the Heilo center or whatever it's called. Was a pretty big quest since it has an achievement to go with it, and goddamn if it wasn't hard! I probably wasn't a high enough level to do it...but I did it anyways after a few tries.

When I walked up to the place the only way I could get in was to convince the NCR guard that I was there to do something on behalf of the NCR (can't remember what the BS excuse was), and I convinced her because my speech rating was high enough to make her fall for it.:D

You have to have so many different skillsets past a certain amount to even complete this quest. Speech, Repair, and a few spare parts on you. Won't spoil what happens but all I could say was...DAMN:lol

Don't know. Merchants change their inventory every three days. I've seen him with the clip extender and night scope for the Varmint rifle, clip extender and scope for the 9mm, and barrel extender for the magnum. I haven't played enough to find other vendors to see what they have.

Also Is there anyway to get my resolution at 1080p? The options didn't give me that option, I'm playing it now in 1366X766 I think. My card is a R5870. I'm also using a 720p HDTV for the monitor.

You didnt activate it. You have to go out and activate it from the console outside once you arm it from the mainframe.

Ahhhhh, okay then. Well, that makes the decision much easier anyway.

Is there any later benefit to helping out the Followers of the Apocalypse people
?

played a bit. got up to primm

its like fallout 3 - 1.5.

some of the worst looking 3D people in a modern 2010 game. The intro 3x villian with the creeps that dug the grave looked so c-tiered and made me think that they were completely taking the piss.

it looks about the same inside/around.

its more fallout3. The obsidianess of the title = not apparent to me yet.

I gotta say, I found myself skipping a lot of the dialogue. Not listening or reading it much. skip skip skip skip.

Me too. I've been surprised by just how boring the dialogue has been considering its heritage.

Did exactly the same thing with F1 2010, no ban here.
Although you need to keep the VPN always active before launching Steam until the release date, or the game will be locked again.

I got so frustrated at that part that I took off exploring and wound up invalidating the entire quest chain by finding an alternate path to the Strip. Went back and did it anyway, though. That said, she's
enter Freeside through the 'Freeside's North Gate' point on your world map. Go forward, then hang a right when you get to the blue train-car thing that serves as a zone transition point (don't go through it, you want to stay in this zone, despite where the compass seems to point). Keep going until you pass under the ruined overpass, then turn left. At the end of that section, on the left, there'll be a ruined storefront with two NCR guards. She's in there.

Perhaps try not skipping entire chunks of the dialogue, Grover.

Having done a blackout on this game since it's announcement. Can someone tell me how it compares to FO3 in terms of pure content and atmosphere?

Thanks a lot, I was lost with that stuff. So much goddamn rubble everywhere and the waypoints are funny. I just wanna get in the damn strip already.

:lol :lol I get 1080p on PS3, and xbox? Is there a Steam launch option that launches games in whatever res you want?

No you don't, you get 720p. Xbox might say 1080p, but most games run at 720p (or less). If you can select 1080p on your PS3, then your TV is simply taking a 1080p and scaling it down to fit on a 720p panel.

Just because you can select it as an option doesn't mean you got a free TV upgrade.

Running in 1080p to display on a 720p panel will only give you degraded performance.

If you told me I was playing more FO3 via DLC, I would have believed it.

edit: sorry, saw his name pre-release when they introduced the voice cast and didn't realize it was a spoiler.
