is going to wind up finally motivating me go play through FO2 (I bought it from GOG over a year ago, I just have a hard time connecting with isometric RPGs.) given the blatant continuity references that pop up on entry.

So is that "Speech 18/25" thing saying I have an 18 out of 25 chance to pass the Speech check? Or that I have 18 points and need 25 to pass it.

I think the latter guess makes more sense. Then again, Obsidian should have clarified the implication of this change.

EDIT: NVM

Ah. So that's a Hardcore Mode thing. I was wondering. There are some definite frustrations with HM, but the big one for me is the constant limb crippling. Every battle it seems I end up with something crippled. The stuff to make Doctor's Bag is super rare and I don't know how often doctors restock them, but it's not very often.

Overall, though, HM makes the game into something that even NMA freaks would be happy with if they were honest with themselves.

I doubt that. Mostly the "hardcore" elements are just minor considerations that don't really need much attending to.

It only goes halfway, in my opinion. Repairing should require the use of a bench, a lot of critical items like stimpacks, rad-x, and bottlecaps still have no weight, companions auto-heal after every encounter and have infinite ammo etc..

They should've included an NMAcore mode that goes a lot further, though I'm sure someone's working on a mod as we speak.

To fix this, turn your water multisampling to low.

Nope, still stutters. Turning that to low before any other fixes did diddly for me, but keeping it off so if I encounter the water up close maybe it will help then.

Are energy weapons as rare as in the early game of FO3? I played FO3 as a sneaking good guy using guns and the game was a little to easy/boring. I'm looking at being more evil and using energy weapons for this game but don't want to be dragged down by lack of weapons and ammo.

Also is there any long range energy weapons that compare to a sniper rifle?

Not sure bout your second question but you can buy an energy pistol 5 minutes into the game from the general store.

You need 25 to pass it.

Also, that dll trick solved all my problems. Well, cept for the fact that my autosaves and quicksaves are useless. Good thing I played F3 on Xbox and have a habit of hardsaving constantly :D

Yes to both. You even get a laser pistol in the house you start out in.

I have new high end PC rig and been mainly a console gamer. Does this game play good with a 360 controller? Is it fully optimized for it? I am noticing that alot of games that are 360 & PC, the PC version blows the 360 version out of the water, but I am not a mouse/keyboard gamer...so just wondering if New Vegas is 100% PC/360 controller playable.

Thanks!

The controller works exactly the same on both versions.

Normally I give a lot of leniency when it comes to bugs due to just knowing how hard it is to battle them while shipping a game... When it comes to waiving animation bugs, you know, polish level bugs, I totally understand that.

However... the save system... that's just fundamental and critical in a game like this. If I was a tester and saw this issue I would have raised hell if they tried to ship it out like that.

Losing data is just a show stopper, period. This is the kind of bug I would have allowed my team to miss ship date to fix.

God this is incredibly frustrating. I started manually saving more often and turned off Steam Cloud, but it still killed my quick and auto saves.

I'm staying away from energy weapons because enemies killed with laser and plasma weapons tend to never go away. There are "corpses" in Fallout 3 that just never went away.

Wasted a lot time of time playing Blackjack in the casinos (did end up winning a lot of money, even with Luck at "5"

And hooray:
Just got the High Roller Suite from Mr House, can finally start to unload all this crap I've been lugging around

Am disappointed with the lack of Traits, but hopefully that's something people will add via mods

Companions so far:
Boone and the ED Eyebot, now that I have the suite I can leave them there and try out some of the others

I swear, if I hear that song "Big Iron" one more time.....

I hate that song so much  I had to turn off the radio. I'm a little disappointed that there are such few songs.

That's my only complaint so far, I love this game!

I would get it on pc if I were you. I played Fallout 3 on 360 and loved it, but this game looks soooo much better on my pc then fallout 3 did on 360. ( oh yeah, and you can plug your 360 remote in and it works exactly the same!)

Just finished a 250MB patch (as someone else pic'd above).

Of course I have no idea what this patch does, but it doesn't seem performance related.

I'm doing a missing at Freeside called 'GI Blues'. I'm supposed to find a couple different people, they're shown on my local map in a blacked out area with waypoints, but I have no idea how to get to them. Everything in that direction is blocked off, but they're definitely in this particular zone.

What am I doing wrong?

The game has just stopped working for me. Completely. At first it was that I couldn't load my save but now the application won't even launch. Crashes to desktop instantly.

Damn. Damn. Damn.

Game is straight dope into your veins just like the 2008 game was. I intended to just go through character creation and ended up sinking 6 hours into it :lol Environments seem much more varied and alive than Bethesda's were, and the whole thing just feels better overall than their game did. As for the bugs, haven't encountered any yet.

In any other year, this is probably my GOTY like its predecessor was in 2008. In a year that includes GOTG in Red Dead Redemption, it will have to "settle" for #2. Awesome.

Still installing this bitch.

So, its wild wasteland too wacky or just the occasional funny reference ?

I wonder if it's even working on my game. Maybe it's more subtle than I expected.

judging from the modified date of 10/20 (everything else is at 10/19) the patch downladed a new FalloutNV.exe and FalloutNV.esm

exe is about 16 megs and the esm is 240

Are you siding with Mr. House to get the high roller suite? I really hope that it's "permanent housing" that you can keep regardless of your faction status...

ughhh do you not get a Perk at level 5? Hope I didn't get bugged out of one...

Naw, it's only at even numbered levels. You get way fewer perks this time around. :(

It's the power plant level? I just want to know if the "Hammer of Dawn"-like weapon is worth sacrificing reputation for?

It sounds really cool but it might also end up being the most useless gimmick ever. :lol

Just got the game, but won't be able to play for another hour. I'm reading the COLOR manual as I'm typing this. Is the classic pack worth downloading?

I almost regret going with Wild Wasteland on my first playthrough just because I'm not sure how it's impacting the game world, since I have no basis for comparison. I have no idea so far if anything I've seen or experienced is simply the normal game or due to WW (though I also haven't seen anything as blatantly wacky as the Indiana Jones easter egg yet).

Unless you’ve been stuck in a Vault, you probably know that Fallout: New Vegas was released yesterday. We’re thrilled that so many people are enjoying the game, but we also realize there are a few issues that you guys have been reporting.

We have just released an automatic update for the PC version of Fallout: New Vegas that resolves quest and scripting issues. Be sure to restart Steam to ensure the update is downloaded on your next launch of the game. We’re also working hard to make this update available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game as soon as possible, and will let you know as soon as we have the dates they’ll be up.

The issue regarding the PlayStation 3 digital pre-order bonuses has also been resolved. Users should attempt to re-enter the codes to download their bonuses. Should the “80023156″ error continue, we ask that players wait 24 hours before entering the code again. The code should then activate the bonus without any issue.

In addition to the updates, we’ve also released the official G.E.C.K. editor for the PC version of Fallout: New Vegas. You can download it from the Fallout G.E.C.K. page. The editor will also be available on Steam shortly.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on issues that are reported within the community.

I have. I chose to
route the power to the Archimedes II and fried all the NCR troops on the ground. It was funny, but I'm sure it would have been more beneficial routing the power some place else

Yeah, I'm only 8 or so hours in but I haven't seen anything that wacky yet. I don't want to spoil myself but looking at a list of WW events so I'll just have to hope I stumble across something.

A quick update from me based on anecdotal evidence, copying the d3d9.dll file from the Windows directory did little to nothing, but for some reason downloading the file from NewVegasNexus forums helped significantly. It's odd, as the file from there is about a tenth the size of the ones in my Windows subdirectories (there were four of them that were about 1.7 to 1.9 MB, while the downloaded one was about 170 KB).

I'm rolling with Wild Wasteland. Feels good, man.

It looks cool but you will have infamy with NCR and you keep running into a ton of ncr troops all the time so it will be unnecessary. If you wanna see it just do a save before the terminal and try it out, thats what I did.

It seemed to help me as well, though I was already running at 60 FPS most of the time. There were a few spots with a lot of NPCs (inside one of the Primm casinos in particular) that the FPS took a strange dive and it's much better there with the dll in the folder.
