Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

Does anyone know how to make ourselve a radio station with the Fallout 1 and 2 songs? Or how to add songs to an existing radio station?

I've missed the freedom games like this offer.

I got up to the point where you have the option to recruit the ex-sheriff for Primm, but I wasn't very well received at the NCRCF (didn't bother to put on a suit) so had to kill all the perimeter guards, went inside and blew Meyers' head off without realising who he was, then proceeded to slaughter every last man in the entire complex. I found some sunglasses and walked outta there feeling like the fucking Terminator. :lol

I guess the NCR will just have to look after Primm...

Eel O'Brian, trying out Wild Wasteland?

I feel that there's even more environmental storytelling than there was in Fallout 3 - seeing a normally fertile, festive area like Vegas so desolate yet still-functioning is striking in itself. If the tone feels a bit less outright bleak it's because far more dark humor permeates New Vegas than did F3. Combined with Wild Wasteland, it's a game that takes itself less seriously and is able to deliver more interesting things due to the removal of those shackles.

Also remember that Vegas wasn't hit with the blast. That's one of the reasons everything isn't as completely run-down and fucked up as it was in DC in F3.

24 hours in. Just reached the outskirts of New Vegas. So far, the biggest disappointment with the game is the fact that you can only have one real companion. In FO3, they were completely useless. In NV, they're more useful than you are. It also takes you completely out of the game when you run into somebody who begs you to take them along, but then says "Oh, looks like you have company. Nevermind!"

Meh. I'm kind of sick of my current companion, but don't want to get rid of him because there is a quest that's attached that the completionist in me can't not finish. The same trait is making me annoyed that I may be missing out on events with other companions.

If you are playing on PC there is actually a mod that lets you pack more NPCs.

Oh, yeah. That's my second complaint. The music in NV SUCKS compared to FO3 and it repeats far, far too often. If I hear "with a big iron on his hip" one more time I'm going to kill somebody.

...taking a break from the game now. :lol

If you dismiss a companion, they return to where you got them - their quests aren't over if you dismiss them to recruit a new companion.

I did something similar but
I killed everyone at NCRCF except Meyers, I already had reprogrammed the robot to become the sheriff, so Meyers didn't even give me the option to do that.

Play a little further; you're not far from getting
a location you can send companions to wait at if you don't want them around for the moment. You can then go back and pick up others that you've had to pass by.

Unless you specifically mean at a time, in which case, it's probably to keep you from steamrolling the entire game without lifting a finger.

If you hit the timing right you should
overhear him making a radio transmission; when you enter the tower the quest objective will change from finding the guy to eavesdropping. when the conversation's over, it changes again.

You're hitting a scripting glitch; as far as I know, you need to hear the radio conversation fully to get the last part of the quest What you're getting is more or less what happened to me the first time I found him, and I wound up reloading and trying again.. You may want to try waiting/sleeping 24 hours and trying again to see if that resets him.

Blah, maybe I'll leave the mission as is and try again later if a patch or mod will fix it. Restarted the game, tried waiting in the room for 24 hours (with him in there) to try to reset the script, tried coming in at different minutes, all leads to the same result:
the guy just stands there and does nothing!

Plus, I'm probably encountering the other glitch...when I kill him and loot his body for the activation code, I run to Hsu and then run to the monorail where it leaves just as I'm about to get on.

Skip
Hsu? The game didn't route me to him until after I'd watched the monorail explode because I failed at disarming. I ran straight there and barely had enough time to locate the panel with the bomb before the monorail took off; it was tight, but doable.

Unless you have to do things in that order because of the first glitch.

Yeah, I have to do things in that order because the one time I've tried skipping
Hsu, nothing happens at the monorail...I just take it to the strip! :lol

First annoying bug for me so far, especially since I'm so close to finishing this particular quest!

From the UK here.

It says on Steam the game will be unlocked in 2 hours. That's... 1 AM.

Why isn't it midnight or is it an error?

This is the first time I've preordered and preloaded something on Steam so I'm not sure how it works exactly.

Haha, I love that quest. When I got back to the casino and the douchebag deputy was like "find us a sheriff", I looked around and saw that cowboy robot... a couple minutes and a bit of reprogramming later Primm Slim was the new lawbringer. :lol

Loving the game so far.....I'm about 4 hours in.

I did have an unusual bug hit me for about 10 minutes though...every time I would pick something up my characters arms would flip behind his head.....really weird.

I enjoy the song selection more than FO3's but would have prefered 2 radio stations with greater variety to multiple stations spreading out the soundtrack.

When I'm holding a rifle my arms will occasionally appear above my head, like it's some weird aiming technique.

I also occasionally get an invisible pip-boy - I can hear the screens clicking, but just see a blurred screen. It usually happens in the heat of battle, making it really annoying trying to switch weapons or use aid.

And sometimes when the pip-boy is visible, it's out of alignment, meaning I can only see half of it. :lol

360 version btw.

Anyone know if there is any resolution mods for this game. I like to play it in 1280X768. I guess it would look best. I've been playing it in 1600X1200 which doesn't look right to me.
Steam Launch-options doesn't seem to work.? :/

I applied the mouse acceleration fix (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34690) and it certainly helps get rid of the floatiness, but it seems that there is a vast difference in mouse sensitivity between controlling the camera and using the menus. If I increase the DPI my mouse when using the camera and then decrease it when using the menus, it feels just right, but it's annoying to have to do all the time. Anyone know of a way to fix this?

Yeah noticing that too...I usually turn off AA for PC games I can run anyway for a performance boost so I'll take the better textures on PS3. Nice to know it's a trade off versus one version being utter garbage like the FO3 launch.

By the way, regarding mods. What I am using at the moment (check http://www.newvegasnexus.com/ for proper descriptions or mods I didnt include below, for example playerhomes in certain areas or other balancing variants) :

AddemptyBottle - Every time you drink nuke cola or purified water you get an empty bottle that...
BottleThatWater - ... you can refill when using a sink or other water source
BetterHeadshots - Increases the amount of damage made by a headshot (also to yourself)
CaravanCardFix - Fixes a bug where Caravan Cards were not added to your deck
CarryingCapacityIncrease - Raises the base value by approximately 100. with strength 5 you have 300 pounds you can carry
Companion De-Equip - You can equip and dequip companions as you like
EDTraits - Gives more choices for the starting traits
PerkEveryLevel - Well... choose a perk every time you level up. You wont get perks from levels you missed when installing the mod later.
RASrepairAll - Repair your stuff with all kinds of other stuff (wrenches, superglue...other equipment)
Further3rdPersonCamera - Gives you more Options on how to use the 3rd person Cam
Goacbc'sFreeplayAfterMQNV - Continue playing after you "finished" the game.
ImmaSightingMahLazor - Gives an aiming view to the laser pistol (really nicely done)
KillableKids - Couldnt test yet as I have yet to come across kids.
Unlimited Companions - Chose up to 6 companions. Be careful though as you dont want to hit max so that quest NPC's can still join you
MTUI - New UI with slightly smaller fonts for conversation, pipboy and items

Yeah.. I love tailoring a game to my needs and wants.

Other interesting mods I havent tested:
Jaysus Swords Mod - Give you 7 different knives and swords
Adventurers New Vegas - Gameplay and difficulty balance (e.g. no rare items in random chests)
AllRacesPlayable - You can play as everything except children
RealisticPhysics - Changes over the top physics to a more realistic version

the fridge with the hat? The gambler right above the campfire in the starting location? (go up the hill)

There are probably way more when looking around the wastelands. Everytime you see something like this a popup appears with a pipboy spinning his eyes.

I'm tempted to get the PerkEveryLevel mod but I also want to play it the way Obsidian meant for it to be played at least once.

So is there a New Vegas version of that rad mod that decreases menu font size? I'm getting tired of only seeing a 7-8 of a merchant's items at a time.

I just bought this up on AusGAF, but here is probably more appropriate:

Am I the only one struggling to understand Caravan? Sorry if this has been discussed before...

I would love to if I knew that I would play it a second or third time. I simply dont have the time to do it. I'd rather search the complete wasteland once... and then completely then making three slightly less attentive playthroughs.
Also I am playing on hard + hardcore (I know, I know... contradicting) and using these mods to make my life easier. But eh. To everyones likings :)
Also I advise to try out the smaller mods as the bottle or laser ones. Trying them out doesnt hurt anyway. They give nice touches to the game.

Not yet as far as I can see.

Edit: Oh and the 3rd person mod is a must.

the sacrificial chamber in Vault 11

I loved this part. Especially escaping from it.

So, I guess the X-Box got the canteen for a pre-order bonus that you can't get in game otherwise? On one hand, that's annoying, on the other hand, that ruins a big part of hardcore mode.

So I am trying to get into the
NCRCF and the doorman tells me he'll let me in for 100 caps. I hand over the caps and he says go on in but when I get near the door he starts shooting. Is this by design or what?

Sounds like a bug. Have you killed Joe Cobb? I killed some random powder gangsters and paid my way into that place.

Yeah, I killed him. Guess I'm screwed on the missions I can get from inside that place then?

Well, I'm getting pretty pissed off. PC version, I've lost my progress twice now, the most recent time I lost about an hour's worth. I'm constantly quick saving AND keeping a manual save file, but when I crashed and came back in, it had an incredibly old quick save, and old autosave (like from Tuesday) and a manual I save about an hour ago.

What. the. fuck.
