Fallout - Series Reviews

RagnarokIV

Battlebus imprisoning me \m/ >.< \m/
I didn't get to watch it when I got home because I had to fix a fucken leaking toilet!

Tonight is the night however.

Any thoughts so far on the effects work? Hoping it's mostly practical and in-camera.

so i watched the first ep and it's kind of exactly what i was worried they'd take the show, band of rebels saying random marvel quips and CGI violence happens.

maybe it gets better throughout the season , but considering we get a fuck scene like 20 mins into the show and then gross out violence this just kind of feels like is going for that adolescent the boys type viewer.

will give it a few more eps tonight to see if it goes anywhere.

also why is there a lady with a moustache running around base camp.

Based on the first episode the show is quite nicely produced.

I don't know about the characters yet. They didn't seem too interesting to me.

Seen the first two episodes.

Fairly good overall. Nothing extraordinary, the actor who plays Maximus is the weakest at the moment, but that could improve. Lucy and the Ghoul are clearly the most interesting to follow at the moment.

The writing is the same as the games, i.e. standard, nothing brilliant but it passes. After Shogun, I really needed something less deep and more energetic, so this is perfect.

Filly looks like a Democrat town that has defunded the local police... only safer. Visually and tone-wise, it's also very well done.

If you played any of the modern fallout games and done most of the side quests your probably going to be familiar with the stories going on from what i've seen so far. Lots of little nods to the games, from the slowmo bullet scene (vats) to the junk gun (baby leg bit) and more that will really be spoilers. So far it's pretty much what I wanted from a fallout movie/series, I didn't go in expecting some memorable story though. None of the games had that so I was hoping for an action driven post apocalyptic setting full of lunatics with sanity a rarity, So far that seems to be what I got.

Definitely enjoying it. Certainly better than I ever could have imagined. But of course I'm sure people will find things to nitpick or complain about. Personally I'm still loving the fact that we can get shows and films based on video games that are either good, pretty good, or not too bad. Especially with the source material. Rather than the opposite.

Re moustache lady, my wife asked me why is there a trans person in this post apocalyptic world and where is he/she getting hormones :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Must be some serious slim pickins in TV land to sink this low guys

I douchechilled the fuck out with The Last of Us by episode 2. Straight garbage. And looks like its already certain you couldn't pay me to watch this one either. Just stahp with this TV shows based on games shit for the love of god. As if we needed any more proof of how dead with ideas the industry is.

And give me that Fallout 4 upgrade for christs sake.

I fell asleep for half of the first episode.

Ill give it a shot tomorrow but its not really what I thought itd be so far.

They have all kinds of medicine and wacky drugs in this universe, you can alter yourself in many ways. In a world with 150 year old ghouls and syringes that can heal you from fatal wounds I wouldn’t worry about realism.

And someone complained earlier about a mixed race child in the “1950s.” Did you notice the floating butler robot?

It’s fiction based on its own universe.

The diversity doesn’t feel forced to me because the acting seems pretty good as does the story. Some of you would be better off relaxing a little bit and enjoying things rather than picking apart things because of diversity.

The episode really picks up after the intro,

The term complaining is being generous.

I applaud you for addressing this.

I was going to, but didn't even want to acknowledge or give life to their shenanigans.

Well done.

Same with the girlfriend, but she dug the TLOU show. So maybe she'll come around. 👀
I’m kind of thinking this show isn’t going to attract as many non gamers.

TLOU is just a zombie show with some nods to video-gamey-ness here or there in the action scenes that you wouldn’t even notice as a casual viewer.

Fallout is endless fan service that might confuse casual viewers and they don’t explain much. I’ve been trying to think how non fans world react to this show and I think it’s a hard sell.

It’s not a generic “post apocalyptic” show like TLOU is basically a generic zombie show. (I can hear nerds typing loudly “they are the infected not zombies!”)

Watched most of the first ep, the wife and I dug it.

Some casting shenanigans for sure, like how vault 32 CLEARLY has distinctly different people in it (after 200 years) yet main girl says "there is no one here for me that isn't my cousin". Either she is racist or there really shouldn't be different ethnicities in the vault.

But whatevs, it was fun. The wrist monitors were a bit clunky for real life use IMHO and I think they should have restructured/delayed the BoS bit so they could have a better "first time we see the surface" reveal, especially if the BoS stuff is in a typical sparsely filled flat CGI landscape, but this is MILES better than Rings of Power so far, that show fell flat on its face pretty much from scene one.

I feel and understand this.

The show is pure fanservice.

I didn't much care for the Last of Us adaption, because the game was the superior narrative and presentation.

But this show really could be a Fallout game.

You might like it!

Possibly, but here's the thing dude:

I just don't want to ever think about or be reminded of the TV show that's based on the game while I'm playing the game. I feel like that whole idea/action is like the antithesis of experiencing a game, especially an RPG and ESPECIALLY an RPG by Bethesda. It's hard to explain. Ill tell you I think I'm lucky I pulled out when I did with Last of Us. The franchise hasn't really been tainted whatsoever for me even though I witnessed two hours of embarrassing acting and a shitty, laughable demise for Tess.

Not even gonna chance it with this one.

First episode of Fallout was fantastic

My only issue with it is that it's fine to show male nudity but showing an attractive female in full nudity is a no no

I have the rest of the episodes to catch up on, so we shall see if they change their mind on that

Other than that

Fantastic show so far

Hey pal, be honest with yourself. If you were about to have sex with her, you also would have made sure she kept her cumbersome wedding dress on the entire time.

Watched the first 4 episodes so far and episode 4 is really Fallout for me so far, the first 3 had standard TV writing in them here and there, and yeah i know it's a TV show but still,

Some minor issues, i thought they way they conveniently all bumped into each other in EP 2 made the world seem smaller, The Brotherhood seem a bit off and very thug like with no rules whatsoever lol and the Ghoul while i really like the character, he shouldn't be immortal like a superhero villain, a bit overpowered to me, that isn't Fallout , and who buried him for 30 years lol , hopefully this will be explained later, but i'm enjoying it.

I couldn't agree more. I feel like if she gave it a shot she'd dig it. But it's the initial "getting passed what it is" part that's the wall, heh.

I watched 3 episodes so far, and to me, its just okay.

It really catches the vibes of the games but as a show i just dont care about the characters (yet), the story is pretty meh so far, the over the top violence makes it comical and im conflicted on what the show wants to make me feel.

Nothing so far has caught me emotionally enough to care about it long term, that could change and I will continue watching but its a fun show and that's it.

Sure, I'll take your word for it. I'm not a fallout fan and I honestly don't care about the character, I just couldn't answer my wife because I have no clue lol. I also couldn't explain the ghoul character 🤷‍♂️

Ill rewatch the first episode today since I missed over half, basically woke up at the end.

Apparently the 4th episode is where it really hooks you all the way through the rest of the season.

Yeah they aren’t explaining anything.

The fan service works for me as I have 1,000+ hours of gaming in the series and all the context I need to understand what is going on.

Like one of the bandits who was raging on everyone popped a drug called “psycho” in the middle of a fight, it’s barely even noticeable and certainly not explained that it’s why he had super strength.

That’s completely fair. I love material that I can emotionally connect to but I also enjoy over the top ridiculousness.

Seen three eps so far. It is entertaining and not bad, but at the same time I am not hugely thrilled with it.
I did have goosebumps in the first episode few times, seeing stuff like stimpack being used in live action is just cool. I grew up on Fallout 1 and 2..

i'll def finish it, im having a ton of fun with it. Again, that might change cause it's early on!
I will say when they introduced Maximus I thought it had more potential for a bit more seriousness. Thought he started off well as far as acting goes but then they just went kind of goofy with it.
