Fallout, a TV adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic video game series, was released on Amazon Prime this past April. Video game adaptations can be a bit of a mixed bag sometimes, but in this case, fans and critics alike (us included) loved its characters, world-building, and its overall take on the Fallout universe. It should come as no surprise, then, that the show has been nominated in numerous categories at the 2024 Emmy Awards.

Fallout was nominated in 16 categories, but two of them are particularly exciting. First, the show is one of eight nominees for Outstanding Drama Series, ranking it among other big shows of 2024, like Shōgun, which currently leads the pack with 25 nominations. Secondly, Walton Goggins was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for his portrayal of The Ghoul. This is his second Emmy nomination – the first being for Supporting Actor on the show Justified back in 2011.

  • Outstanding Drama Series
  • Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series - for Walton Goggins
  • Outstanding Production Design - for episode The End
  • Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes - for The End
  • Outstanding Picture Editing For A Drama Series - for The End and The Ghouls
  • Outstanding Main Title Design
  • Outstanding Period Or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) - for The Head
  • Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup - for The Beginning
  • Outstanding Music Supervision - The End
  • Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour) - for The Target
  • Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour) - for The Target
  • Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie
  • Outstanding Stunt Coordination For Drama Programming
  • Outstanding Stunt Performance
  • Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series - for The End
  • Outstanding Emerging Media Program - for Fallout: Vault 33

Hell yeah well deserved, loved this show and can't wait for season 2.

Now that they see what TV success can be they need to full reboot Halo again with a bigger budget and more action lmao

Get it Goggins!

I never would've thought they'd receive so many nominations. But hey, the show was better than I ever thought it could be.

And every praise is deserved, really. I have my problems with the setting mess, but as a standalone project this was an exemplary first season.

Walton Giggins did a great job although strangely enough, this is the second time he played a ghoul.

He previously played one in Mazerunner: Death Cure.

Emmys happened over the weekend and Fallout didn't win anything related to writing or acting.

Shogun, on the other hand, swept 18 awards for its first season

Couldn't get into this show. First episode was just kind of dumb to me and I had no desire to keep going. Congrats to Walton though that guy is an amazing actor.

Watch The Shield and Justified. He's fantastic in both.

Agreed on the Fallout show btw, after a couple of episodes I just had no need to continue.

Goggins was the only good thing in the show.
Everything else ranged from average to insulting including all the retcons. And FUCK Maximus, worst character in the entire series…

Fallout was a nice surprise and Goggins and the main girl both did a good job but Shogun was world class. Best show in a while and deserved to win all that it did.

Watched the first episode of Fallout when it aired, didn't blow me away like I was expecting it to based on reviews. Open to continue it later in life.

However I have been binging The Shield for the first time, up to season 3. Goggins (and the rest) are great in it. Would be nice to get engrossing shows like this made still

And without constantly showing the Master Chief without his helmet. And they can leave out the butt too. Who asked for that?

The Fallout series really wasn't bad. And I'm not even a big Fallout fan.

No network is going to touch Halo now. I'd say maybe in 5-10 years, but the IP will likely be less relevant than it is now.

Microsoft needs a whole brand redo.

And I don't know that 343i remaking Halo and taking it multiplatform is going to do enough.

Microsoft should have also done things differently with Fallout. Why wasn't there a remake or one of the popular games with the start of the series? Something to capitalise on the hype? You'd think a series like this would have been several years in the planning, work etc. and Microsoft would have had time for a strategy.

Let me say this. It's very difficult to line up TVs and movies with video games.

Microsoft didn't even own Bethesda when the show was being greenlit.

And Bethesda was already into Starfield. They aren't large enough to build multiple games this size at the same time.

Look what happened with Sony and Last of Us on PC. Not only was it late, but it was a mess. Cyberpunk was already out when the anime came out and Casltevania really didn't put anything new out either.

Sony has a a whole production studio now dedicated to making this work out and look what happened to Horizon on Netflix, it got canceled due to unforeseen issues.

Well, it didn't have to be Bethesda for a remake. Bluepoint Games has created some fantastic remakes. I'm curious to see how Avowed will turn out. I don't have a good feeling about it so far. Perhaps Obsidian should have been entrusted with Fallout again. They made one of the best - if not THE best - Fallout anyway.

At the time this was greenlit, no one really had a good understanding of the impacts of transmedia. To greenlight a remake with another studio... then which game do you choose...

Least of all to mention covid.

I'm just saying this stuff is hard and this is hindsight.

I don't want to disagree with you. The corona years were wild. For me, the sour taste doesn't come so much from this one thing. It's rather one of many questionable decisions that Microsoft has made in recent years. A bit like they can't do anything right anymore. The series without hype outside is rather banal next to the rest. But with the amount of studios they now have, I found it strange that nothing has even been announced. No remake, remaster, HD version ...

Well, there will be a second season. Let's see if they bring something to accompany it. I'm looking forward to the new season. The series was entertaining. I liked the first season. Especially Walton Goggins.

Microsoft is in a deep hole and the more they dig the deeper they find themselves in. They don't have the apparatus to make these things really beneficial for them. There will be a season 2, but my guess is season 2 isn't as well received and I don't think they'll have a remake out by then either.

I thought they had learnt something after the disaster of the One announcement. So much effort to recover from that. Only to make a lot of rubbish again. I no longer expect anything from Microsoft. They probably need some changes in management before we can hope for that.

Large companies like Microsoft are like a big ship. You can't turn a ship on a dime, it's impossible.

It's not just a leadership issue, but it's a cultural issue, and for Microsoft also a legal issue, and now a financial issue.

Sony made a lot of mistakes with the PS3 that really helped Microsoft out with the 360, but what Microsoft never did was invest in building out world class studios. To play catch up, they bought publishers/studios, most of which were on the decline in performance and quality and came with tremendous operating costs...

This is why you're seeing mass layoffs.

Sony similarly bought on more than they could chew with Bungie, Firesprite, Haven, and Firewalk, while still having issues with Bend, Media Molecule, and London Studios. London Studios won't be the last studio Sony closes in the near future. Highly likely that Firewalk closes. Highly likely that Firespirte closes. Unless the PS5 drops in price, it's going to be hard for Media Molecule to have success selling family oriented games, unless those games hit switch.

I didn't even expect that. But it feels like it's only getting worse. Not better. I've had every Xbox console, many in various versions. I probably wouldn't buy a new one. They really do have enough studios. But I hardly liked any of the games of this generation. Too many problems.
